Abstract

ABSTRACT Wau-Weyaf Beach is the nesting ground of six species of turtles, including the world's largest turtle, the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). The University of Papua (UNIPA) Manokwari, since 2009 has been directly involved in the turtle nesting area protection program by involving the students of UNIPA through the Community Service Program (KKN). In 2016, students carried out the KKN Program starting from June 30th to August 16th in Kampung Wau-Weyaf, one of the leatherback turtles’ egg-laying locations in Abun. This paper is a part of the Community Service Program which is carried out in the said village. The activities conducted during the KKN include both formal and non-formal education, religious education, and environmental education. Education-based KKN directly helps to improve public awareness which, in turn, supports the efforts to protect and save the leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea) on the coast of Abun, Tambrau. The same approach is also able to improve the calistung (the capability to read, write, and count) ability of school children along with their awareness to maintain the cleanliness of their homes, school, and village environment. Keywords: Education; Conservation; Turtle; Wau-Weyaf ABSTRAK Pantai Wau-Weyaf merupakan tempat bertelur bagi 6 jenis penyu, termasuk penyu terbesar di dunia, Penyu Belimbing (Dermochelys coriacea). Abstract

The River Sebyar is known as the home for particular aquatic birds and the wintering ground for migrant birds. The mass transportation along the river most likely impacted by the presence of wildlife species including birds. The research investigated the presence of water birds along the river. The study was done at six villages along the River Sebyar at the Aranday District of Bintuni Bay Regency of West Papua. The methods involved direct observation to the study sites by canoe-transect line along the river length with the assistance of binoculars, taxonomic description guide, and daily diary updated. Twenty-three birds were observed during the survey. Ten out of 23 bird species recorded in this survey have been observed that consisted of five species of Ardeidae, four of Anatidae, and one of Laridae. The escalation of human activities along the riverside especially during sago harvesting and a busy boat traffics within the Bintuni Bay tended to decrease spaces for particular bird species that usually occupied the areas for roosting and foraging assemblages.

Abstract

A study to identifY the possibility on the development of swine raising managed traditionally by local communities on the coastal area of Manokwari district was conducted in Manokwari district (Kecamatan Manokwari; Kelurahan Manokwari Barat and Kelurahan Manokwri Timur). Data collection was carried out through field survey, observation and interviewing 35 respondent farmers Who have been raising swine for at least a year. For the future development, the requirements of good feeding management, feed additive (vitamin and mineral) is urgently to be applied with regards to enrich feed nutrients for the animals. Feed nutrition analysis of the consumed feeding is important to do serve as the base line information for the feeding management requirements. Feed availability was showed by various feed items, feeding sources diversity, and common practice of feeding frequency that appropriate as requirements for raising swine.

In papua deer have been cultivated or breed in a relativery large scare. The purpose of cultivation or captivity is to know the daily behavior or deer timor (Cervus timorensis) in brooder breeding condtion with large numbers of pet populations. The time of study for ±one month is from the beginning of september to the and of september 2017. Using 10 sample from 24 deer in breeding, 3 aduit males, 2 young males, 3 adult females and 1 young females and 1 culf. Using time observation method with observation technique. Analyze data using exel to find the percen tage of social activity from each time period. Each time period was divided into I 06:00-08:00(6,48%); II 08:00-10:00(25,93%); III 10:00-12:00(19,44%); IV 12:00-14:00(7,41%); V 14:00-16:00(6,48) and VI 16:00-18:00(34,26). Abstract

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the size and physical description (location, shape, colour and texture) ovarian of Echymipera kalubu. Study was conducted in 3 months from June to September 2017. Three female E. kalubu with an average body weight 399±97.32g and average body length 21.67±5.51cm were used in this study. Sample of bandicoots were dissected using a surgical tool and then measured using measuring tester and analytic scales. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the data. The results showed that average length of female reproductive organs of E. kalubu was 11,00±0,87 cm (right) and 11,03±0,83 cm (left); average weight of ovarian was 0,01±0,0048 g (right) and 0,02±0,0006 g (left). This study also showed that characteristics of ovarian were in common with other polytocus animals.
