Abstract

Resiliensi memberikan sumbangan efektif sebesar 10,2 persen.

Abstract

Student engagement involves student responsibility in the lecture process which can be influenced by fear of failure, in this relationship there is self-compassion that can bridge. Students with high fear of failure, but high self-compassion make it possible to manage the negative impact of fear of failure and ultimately student engagement increases. This study aimed to determine the role of self-compassion in mediating the relationship between fear of failure and student engagement. The sample in this study was 384 students who were taken using the convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using three scales, namely the student engagement scale, the self-compassion scale, and the fear of failure scale. Data analysis was conducted using mediation analysis with JASP to test the mediating role of self-compassion and PROCESS analysis to see the dynamics of the relationship between the three variables in more detail. The mediation analysis results showed a significant relationship between fear of failure and student engagement in Sebelas Maret University students through self-compassion. The mediating role of self-compassion provides a greater influence than the direct effect. Increasing fear of failure allows a decrease in self-compassion. Furthermore, an increase in self-compassion allows for an increase in student engagement.

Abstract

In the context of rapid societal changes and the digital era, adolescents are increasingly vulnerable to mental health issues, which are often reflected in help-seeking behavior. A significant 34.9% of adolescents exhibit symptoms of mental disorders, yet only 2.6% seek professional help. The establishment of adolescent health posts (Posyandu) serves as a platform for monitoring adolescent health. However, challenges remain due to the low response rates in help-seeking behaviors and limited interest in Posyandu activities. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-diagnosis and help-seeking behavior, moderated by mental health literacy, among adolescents in Posyandu in the city of "Y." The research adopted a quantitative approach, targeting all members of adolescent Posyandu in the city. A purposive sampling method was employed, selecting adolescents aged 10-23 years who were active in the Posyandu, resulting in 114 respondents. Data were collected using scales for help-seeking behavior (α = 0.801), self-diagnosis (α = 0.795), and mental health literacy (α = 0.528). Data analysis was conducted using Chi-Square correlation and PROCESS Macro Hayes version 4.2. The correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between self-diagnosis and help-seeking behavior. Meanwhile, the PROCESS analysis indicated that the interaction between self-diagnosis and mental health literacy negatively affected help-seeking behavior. It can be concluded that while mental health literacy moderates the relationship between self-diagnosis and help-seeking behavior, it does not strengthen this association among Posyandu adolescents in the city of "Y."

Abstract

In the emerging adulthood phase, parental psychological control can cause an increase in the fear of failure among students, as they are afraid of disappointing their parents or being perceived as less competent. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the effectiveness of reality therapy in reducing the fear of failure among students at X University in Indonesia. Using the WDEP (Wants, Doing & Direction, Evaluation, Planning) framework, reality therapy could make students develop strategies to pursue personal goals they are afraid of failing to achieve. A total of 24 students from X University were selected as participants through purposive sampling. An experimental design was used, incorporating a pretest-posttest control group framework. Data were collected using the Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI). The collected data were analyzed using the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed-Rank and Mann-Whitney U tests. The results showed that reality therapy effectively reduced the fear of failure among students, with the effect sustained for 15 days (p < .05). In addition, a significant difference was observed in the reduction of the fear of failure between the experimental and control groups (p < .05). In summary, this research suggested that reality therapy could be an effective intervention to reduce the fear of failure.
