Abstract

Management of forest resources is strongly influenced by local knowledge possessed the community to prevent the adverse effects on forests. This study was conducted to inventory of local knowledge related to trust or/and abstinence , ethics and rules, techniques and technologies, as well as the practices and traditions of forest management / land undertaken by the community in building and managing forests in Serdang village, sub-district of Barusjahe, Karo. This research was conducted in the village of Serdang District of Barusjahe , Karo in June to July 2014 The method used was a survey through interviews with respondents using questionnaires and direct observation and then the data is processed by descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that  the forms of local knowledge is still contained in Serdang village that can support forest management such as trust and/or customary restrictions such as the implementation of such ceremonial rites and ceremonies rebu rebu of year work, beliefs about village guards called "Pulu   2Balang", ethics and rules in the form of a ban on logging from protected forests, and capture fish by using  poison and bombs, ban hunting of protected animals, engineering and technology in the form of making firebreaks, pay attention to the wind direction before burning , no burning during the season dry , using bamboo as basket material and sunun, use bamboo as crutch of  plants, land management practices and traditions such as the division of an area into several land area to be planted with different agricultural commodities, applying intercropping techniques, use of the  compost and humus, knowledge of the crop cycle, the selection of appropriate agricultural commodities, as well as utilizing forest plants as a medicinal plant. This study also provides input for the government to continue to provide guidance and counseling for the community that local knowledge possessed people still evolving.Keywords: Local knowledge, community forest, village serdang, forest management

Abstract

Commmunity Plantation Forest is Indonesian government policy which needed participation and responsibility from local community to manage production forest sustainability. Which is expected to make a sustainable and productive forest, increase community welfare through the direct absorption of laborers especially in forestry sector and increase regional economic growth Public be targe to forest plantation development programme in existing can be basis for government policy to empower human so that they will be more active in preserving, managing and using forest potency sustainability. So, the rate of perceptions and public participation on forest plantation programme have to been known. Sampling technique uses purposive sampling. This riset uses primer and secondary data. Primer data can be gotten from survey and direct observation and interview by spread of. Then, counted the rate of perceptions and public participation on forest plantation programme by using formula, then it will be grouped into three categories namely high, medium and low. The result of riset is the level of public perception in Pangkalan Siata Village located in Pangkalan susu district, Langkat is 84,02% (good), the rate of public participation for some acivities such as planning 55,47% (medium), actuating 64,44% (medium), and evaluation 51,10% (medium)Keyword : Public Perception, Public Participation, Commmunity Plantation Forest, Coastal Peoples Cooperation.

Abstract

The development of tourism is a mainstay of the national economies. The potential of nature, culure, and the local community lives, become the foundation of its operations. Taman Eden 100 is one of the tourism object that has the potential to developed. This study aimed  to analyze the potential and development of tourism object of Taman Eden 100. Identification is done by using observational methods and interviews with stakeholders. The analysis was permormed based on the criteria in Rating Analsis Object operation Guilding Nature of the Directorate  General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservatoion, 2003, and SWOT analysis. The results showed that the Taman Eden 100 has decent potential to be developed on the level of 76.36%, and the feasibility of the SWOT analysis are in Quadrant I, which means to have strength that can be utilized to develop opportunities owned.Keywords: potential of tourism , development of tourism region, SWOT analysis, Taman Eden 100

Abstract

One of the efforts made in the implementation of community based forest management is to empower communities around the forest to do pine tapping, the community involved not only men, in the era of emancipation, women can also be involved. The purpose of this study was to determine the roles of women and men in pine tapping and in making decisions associated with the pine tapping, as well as to determine the contribution of pine tapping on household income. From the aspect of working time, the role of men is greater than women in pine tapping activities, the working time of men at 39,61 hours/week and women at 9,07 hours/week. Decision-making in the family and productive activities conducted by men, issues concerning the domestic interests or reproductive dominated by women, while the financial conducted together. Respondents’ income contribution from pine tapping amounted to 73.23% from total household income.Keywords : gender, pine tappers, household income, RPH Gunungsari

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the type of tree vegetation, carbon stocks, and its economic vale in experimental forest of Pondok Buluh, Simalungun District, North Sumatra.  It was conducted from April to May 2014. The collection of data used path method, and the sampling technique used Purpose sampling with random start method. The plot size by 20 m × 100 m consist of 10 plots categorized as large plot in observation of trees with diameter > 30 cms and there was small plot within by 5 m × 40 m to observe the tree with diameter 5 cms to     < 30 cms. The collection of data performed by non-destructive method with biomass data analysis using allometric models with a carbon content 0f 46% of biomass. The results of study shown that 49 species of trees derived from 25 families. Carbon content stored on observation plots 173,40 tons/ha, and estimation of total carbon stocks 190.737,70 tons. The economic value carbon stock above ground biomass of standing tree in Education Forest of Pondok Buluh around IDR 33.474.466.350,00 to IDR 44.632.621.800,00.

Abstract

Water is an important element in human life. Water is used for various purposes including for drinking, domestic using, and all human activities. The purpose of research was to analyze the economic value of Aek Arnga spring and the factors that affect the value of the willingness to pay (WTP) for the payment of environmental services community. The method was used in this research was Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). CVM  was a method of survey techniques that asked residents about the value or price of the commodity they accepted to pay that didn’t have market’s value as environmental goods. The factors that effected respondent’s willingness to pay  for environmental services in this research was the average household income, the amount of water users, and the amount of water need. WTP’s  value obtained from this research was the value that would be given by the respondents for the environmental services that was producted by Aek Arnga spring per liter per household. The average WTP values of respondents was Rp. 109.65/Hh/day while the total value of WTP was  Rp. 14,692.83 /day. The value of environmental services of  Aek Arnga spring by community was around 9,454,715.45 liters/year. While the potential value of Aek Arnga spring was Rp. 1,036,709,549.09 /year that could be done to restore ecology of the forest area of 9.40 ha.Keywords:   Aek Arnga spring, environmental services, willingness to pay, the value of water services

Abstract

Durian is a non-timber forest products, in addition to having ecological value, Durian also has economic value that can be used to increase people  incomes. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the feasibility of durian cultivation in Lau Bagot Village, Subdistrict of Tigalingga, District of Dairi. The analytical method used is descriptive analysis and economic feasibility analysis with multiple criteria: Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR), and Internal Rate of Returns (IRR) and payback period (PBP).   The results showed that the pattern of durian cultivation in this village is done with traditional way and the uneven distribution of trees with density 46 trees/ha. Retrieved NPV Rp 52.981.031/Ha , BCR 2,34 , 24,22 % IRR and PBP 11 years with the prevailing interest rate is 12%. Based on the obtained value of durian cultivation in this village deserves to be developed. Factors that lead to decreased production of durian in Lau Bagot Village is the public perception of the high price of wood has to offer to the public about Rp 500.000/m3, pests and diseases, limited land, and natural disaster, thus preferring to cut down on the selling of fruit.Keywords : durian cultivation, economic feasibility, Desa Lau Bargot

Abstract

Rattan is one of non timber forest products. Almost all parts can be used, one of it was processed into pakkat. Today, information of pakkat economic value is limitted, so that people were uninterested in process it. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the financial feasibility, workflow and marketing margins and marketing efficiency pakkat. The research was conducted in Simangambat Sub District, Padang Lawas Utara District. Respondents of this study is pakkat coolector and traders. The method of data analysis were financial analysis and marketing analysis. The Results showed that the effort is feasible for pakkat cultivating, because the value of R / C ratio of more than one volume is 1,5 with BEP production by 790 units and BEP price of Rp. 392.50, and the period after the return of capital is 2,71 times the production. Pakkat marketing groove starts from farmers, collectors, retailers, and finaly to consumers. There are 2 lines with margin value was Rp. 900,00.

Abstract

Research on “Analysis of Economic Loss and Society Knowledge of Orangutan Sumatra (Pongo abelii) conflict” was conducted in March 2013 until April 2013 at Kuta Gajah and Besilam Village by interview inhabitants whose land damage by the orangutan. The purpose of this research are to calculate the total economic loss caused by the conflicts, to know the cost of community, NGO and government have been spend for mitigating conflict between human and Orangutan Sumatera (P. abelii) and also to analyze community knowledge about the reasons of the conflicts. The result of this research showed that total economic loss at Kuta Gajah is higher than Besilam. Total economics loss occured to Kuta Gajah villager was Rp 2.120.952,00, that clasified to high, while occured to Besilam villager was Rp 340.,00 and clasified to low.  In conflict mitigation, governments cooperated with OIC and by evacuating into Gunung Leuser National Park Area.Keywords: Orangutan Sumatra, Orangutan conflict, Economic Loss, Mitigation Cost, Gunung Leuser National Park.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the composition and stratification of vegetation at Education Forest of North Sumatra University, Tongkoh, Karo District, North Sumatra Province. This research conducted from May to June 2013. Data collection was using “lines method”. The sample plot techniques was a Purposive Sampling method with random start. The plot size was 20 m x 100 m. The results showed that found 73 species of 31 Families of trees, in which 5 Families with the most species of trees which Lauraceae (9 species), Meliaceae (7 specie), Myrtaceae (6 species), Fagaceae (5 species), and the Guttiferae, Moraceae, and respective Sapotaceae (each are 4 species). Education Forest  of USU compiled by A stratum (62 individuals), stratum B (416 individuals), stratum C (2133 individuals), and stratum D (164 individuals) in a 2 ha area.Keywords: tforest compotiion, frest stratification, education forest of North Sumatra University (USU)
