Abstract

In 2019, there were 523 million cases of cardiovascular disease which caused the deaths of 18.6 million people. In this manner, some major issue should be considered, high cardiovascular endurance, for example. Relatively, high cardiovascular endurance can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease by 40% to 70%. Objective to nalyzing the relationship between physical activity and smoking habits among farmers in Pandan Wangi Village. The method used is quantitative research with cross-sectional design involving 108 respondents. The respondents were selected by a simple random sampling technique. Data in this study were collected using GPAQ for physical activity variables, Brinkman index questionnaire for smoking variables, and Harvard step test for cardiovascular endurance variables. Meanwhile, Spearman rank test was used in the data analysis. The research shows that the characteristics of respondents were dominated by male (64.8%) within 36-45 years old age range group (52.8%). In addition, most of the respondents were non-smoker category (62.0%), had a high level of physical activity (52.8%), and a very good level of cardiovascular endurance (27.8%). Bivariate analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between physical activity (p-value = 0.005) and smoking behavior (p-value = 0.047) on cardiovascular endurance among farmers in Pandan Wangi Village. There is a significant relationship between physical activity and smoking habits on cardiovascular endurance among farmers in Pandan Wangi Village.

Abstract

The Relationship between Gender, Meal Regularity, Physical Activity, and Body Mass Index with Functional Dyspepsia among Medical Students at the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar Islamic University Abstract Dyspepsia is a cluster of symptoms caused by discomfort in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Risk factors include age, sex, eating pattern regularity, consumption of irritative foods and beverages, physical activity, and nutritional status. Functional dyspepsia frequently occurs in individuals aged 18–20 years. This study aimed to determine the association between sex, eating pattern regularity, physical activity, and body mass index (BMI) with the incidence of functional dyspepsia among students of the Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of Al-Azhar. This research employed a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling. The study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of Al-Azhar in September 2025, with a total sample of 90 respondents. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square statistical test. The findings showed that there was no significant association between sex and the incidence of functional dyspepsia (p-value 0.298) with PR = 1.230 (0.873–1.734). There was a significant association between eating pattern regularity and the incidence of functional dyspepsia (p-value 0.016) with PR = 1.471 (1.097–1.974). A significant association was also found between physical activity and functional dyspepsia (p-value 0.034) with PR = 0.633 (0.535–0.749). Meanwhile, there was no significant association between body mass index (BMI) and functional dyspepsia (p-value 0.246) with PR = 1.036 (0.754–1.423). There was no significant association between sex and BMI with the incidence of functional dyspepsia among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of Al-Azhar. However, eating pattern regularity and physical activity demonstrated significant associations with the incidence of functional dyspepsia among the students.

Abstract

Background: Low Back Pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal disorder among informal sector workers, including blacksmith workers, due to heavy physical workloads and non-ergonomic working postures. Individual factors such as Body Mass Index (BMI), length of employment, and smoking habits are suspected to increase the risk of LBP. Methods: This was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 51 blacksmith workers were selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements, the Nordic Body Map questionnaire, and a smoking habits questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: A significant association was found between BMI and low back pain complaints (p = 0.001; PR = 7,073; 95% CI: 1,090–45,883). Length of employment was also significantly associated with low back pain complaints (p = 0.004; PR = 3,850; 95% CI: 1.081–13.708). However, smoking habits were not significantly associated with low back pain complaints (p-value = 0.154; 95% CI: 1.039–2.338; PR: 1.558). Conclusion: Body Mass Index and length of employment are significantly associated with low back pain complaints among blacksmith workers, while smoking habits show no significant association. Preventive efforts should focus on weight control and regulation of work duration and workload.

Abstract

Dyspepsia syndrome is a prevalent health issue that can disrupt daily routines and diminish overall productivity. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between smoking intensity, coffee intake, and sleep quality with the occurrence of dyspepsia syndrome at the Mataram City Regional General Hospital (RSUD). Utilizing an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional framework, this quantitative research involved a sample of 107 patients selected via simple random sampling. Data analysis was conducted through univariate and bivariate methods using the Chi-square test. The findings reveal a statistically significant association between smoking degree (p=0.000) and coffee consumption (p=0.000) with the incidence of dyspepsia. In contrast, no significant relationship was observed regarding sleep quality (p=0.348). In summary, smoking habits and coffee consumption are major contributors to dyspepsia syndrome, whereas sleep quality is not a primary factor. Future studies are encouraged to investigate additional variables, such as psychological stress and dietary patterns, to provide a more comprehensive understanding of dyspepsia risk factors.
