Abstract

The development of e-module materials for the classification of living things based on scientific literacy and bio-ethnotaxonomy issues is still very limited. This study aims to develop e-modules for the classification of living things based on scientific literacy and bamboo ethnotaxonomy that are valid and suitable for use in learning. This research and development was carried out using a 4D model by Thiagarajan. This study involved three material expert validators, three media expert validators, and three language expert validators. The instruments used include questionnaires and interview sheets. Development trials are carried out in small-scale trials and large-scale trials. A total of 24 students were involved in the trial with a division of 5 students in the small-scale trial, and 19 students in the large-scale trial. The results showed that there were four species of bamboo found in Sungai Krawang Village, including Bambusa vulgaris, Bambusa multiplex, Gigantochloa apus, and Gigantochloa atroviolacea. The results of material and linguistic validation show that the product developed has fulfilled four and six indicators with a score of >80% (very valid). Furthermore, the validation results of media experts are classified as very valid on three indicators including media size, cover design, and overall design with successive scores of 90.00, 83.33, and 84.76. These results indicate that the e-module of bamboo ethnotaxonomy is appropriate for use in learning about the classification of living things.

Abstract

Approximately, 325 cultivars of bananas were found in Indonesia. They have variation in shape, taste, color of fruit pulp, essential vitamins and mineral. The β-carotene is one of essential nutrient in banana with various concentration in every cultivar. The aims of this research were to describe the morphological characteristics and to analyze β-carotene content of mature fruits of three different genomic groups of Indonesian dessert and cooking banana cultivars namely Berlin (AA/dessert), Barangan (AAA/dessert), and Kepok (ABB/cooking). Morphological characterizations of fruits were conducted according to Descriptor for Banana from International Plant Genetic Resources Institute. The β-carotene content of mature banana pulp was analyzed using High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method with three replications. Banana fruit characters were analyzed based on 15 descriptors. The bananas were then subjected to clustering analysis.  The result showed that β-carotene content  were 27 μg 100g-1, 5 µg 100g-1, and 3 μg 100g-1 fresh weight respectively. Berlin showed the highest value of β-carotene. Cluster analyses formed two groups. The first group consists of Berlin and Barangan while the second one consists of Kepok. This study can be used as a a reference for people to consume bananas with high content of β-carotene in meeting the needs of vitamin A and as a consideration for the plant breeding especially for β-carotene improvement purpose.

Abstract

Indonesia is the origin and center of diversity of banana. One of an edible banana in Indonesia is Pisang Awak (Musa paradisiaca cv. Awak ). In West Kalimantan, the ripe Pisang Awak has been processed into sale (dried banana). The aims of this research were to describe the morphological and anatomical character of Pisang Awak in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. In this study, Pisang Awak were collected from Padang Tikar I village, Batu Ampar Sub-district, Kubu Raya district, West Kalimantan. Morphological characterizations were conducted by following the instruction on Descriptors for Banana (Musa spp.) from IPGRI. The root, leaf blade, and petiole were fixed in FAA solution. Root, leaf, and petiole anatomy preparats were made by paraffin method. The lamina of Pisang Awak consisted of adaxial epidermis, two hypodermis layers, two palisade layers, spongy layer, bundle sheath cell, abaxial epidermis, laticifer. The petiole of Pisang Awak composed of three tissue systems, i.e., epidermis layer, parenchyma tissue and vascular tissue. The root of Pisang Awak consists of two epidermis layers, parenchyma and vascular cylinder. In the future, morphological and anatomical character in Pisang Awak could be applied as the basis of information for breeding programs of banana cultivars and classification.

Abstract

Abstrak Upacara Naikkan Tulang Bumbungan merupakan budaya yang masih berkembang di Desa Penakalan Kabupaten Sambas. Upacara Naikkan Tulang Bumbungan menggunakan beberapa jenis tanaman pada  tahap pelaksanaannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis etnosains upacara naikkan tulang bumbungan di Desa Penakalan Kecamatan Sejangkung yang dapat dijadikan sumber belajar pada materi Biologi SMA. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi, angket dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian pada Upacara Naikkan Tulang Bumbungan terdapat 7 jenis tanaman yang digunakan yaitu Paku (Deparia petersenii), Hanjuang (Cordyline fruticosa), Bintaro (Cerbera manghas), Ribu-ribu (Lycodium flexuosum), Mali (Leea indica), Kelapa (Cocos nucifera), Tebu (Saccharum offiicinarum). Etnosains yang ada di dalam upacara naikkan tulang bumbungan yaitu mengidentifikasi tumbuhan  berdasarkan ciri-ciri yang diamati, klasifikasi tanaman (bintaro, mali, paku, ribu-ribu, hanjuang, kelapa dan tebu) yang digunakan dalam proses upacara naikkan tulang bumbungan. Setelah itu menerapkan konsep tingkat kedewasaan daun kelapa atau jenis daun kelapa yang digunakan dalam proses upacara naikkan tulang bumbungan. Penelitian ini sesuai dengan materi kelas X yaitu materi Keanekaragaman hayati dan Klasifikasi Makhluk Hidup. Tanaman pada Upacara Naikkan Tulang Bumbungan mempunyai potensi sangat layak sebagai sumber belajar Biologi SMA berbasis budaya.

Abstract

People often forget about plants as living organisms that are essential for life which characterizes plant blindness. Plant blindness can occur in students. The objectives of this study are identifying plant blindness in high school student in Hulu Gurung. This research was conducted in January 2023 in the even semester of 2022/2023. The population in this study were all students of SMPN 1 Hulu Gurung (Junior High School) and SMAN 1 Hulu Gurung (Senior High School). Sample selection using Simple Random Sampling technique. The instruments used were questionnaires and direct interviews. Methods for data analysis using qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed that students still lack knowledge about local vegetables. The percentage of students recognizing vegetables was 15% in senior high school students and 4% in junior high school students. There were 6 vegetable species that were not recognized at all, namely Solanum lasiocarpum, Ficus sp., Mangifera pajang, Polypodium sp., Ficus sp., and Smilax leucophylla. In the future local vegetables can be better recognized amidst the presence of imported vegetables. The diversity of local vegetable crops must be maintained through conservation strategies, one of which is to avoid plant blindness as early as possible.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Based on the results of interviews with biology teachers of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak, that not implemented yet local potential based learning is because of limited information. This research aims to develop local potential of West Kalimantan based booklet media on biodiversity material in Grade X of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak.. Media development of this booklet used the Brog&Gall model development method, with stages:(1) Research and data collection,(2) planning,(3) Initial product development,(4) Initial field trials,(5) initial product repairs, and (6) field trials. The results research phase (1) that the book and worksheets teacher have not shown local potential, stage (2) the designed booklet contains core competencies, basic competencies, indicators, objectives, contents, evaluations, and bibliography, stage (3) shows the validity booklets on language aspects 85.3% (very valid), material aspects 95.3% (very valid) and media aspects 90.6% (very valid), stage (4) student responses was 85,7% (very positive) and the teacher's response was 88.7% (very positive). Then stage (5) and stage (6), student responses 90.0% (very positive) and teachers 90.4% (very positive), it concluded that developed booklet media valid and received very positive response from students and teachers. ABSTRAK. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan guru biologi SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak, belum dilaksanakannya pembelajaran berbasis potensi lokal karena keterbatasan informasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media booklet berbasis potensi lokal Kalimantan Barat pada materi Keanekaragaman Hayati pada siswa kelas X SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak. Pengembangan media booklet ini menggunakan metode penelitian pengembangan model Brog & Gall, dengan tahapan:(1) Penelitian dan pengumpulan data,(2) Perencanaan, (3) Pengembangan produk awal, (4) uji coba lapangan awal, (5) perbaikan produk awal, dan (6) Uji coba lapangan. Hasil penelitian tahap (1) buku dan LKS yang digunakan guru belum menampilkan potensi lokal, tahap (2) booklet yang dirancang memuat kompetensi inti, kompetensi dasar, indikator, tujuan, isi, evaluasi, dan daftar pustaka, tahap (3) menunjukkan kevalidan booklet pada aspek bahasa sebesar 85,3% (sangat valid), aspek materi 95,3% (sangat valid) dan aspek media 90,6% (sangat valid), tahap (4) didapatkan respon siswa sebesar 85,7% (sangat positif) dan respon guru sebesar 88,7% (sangat positif), kemudian tahap (5) dan tahap (6), respon siswa 90,0% (sangat positif) dan guru 90,4% (sangat positif), disimpulkan media booklet yang di kembangkan valid dan mendapatkan respon sangat positif dari siswa dan guru.

Abstract

Musa campestris is a unique banana, has erect inflorescence with beautiful bracts and mature fruit colors so that it can be used as an ornamental plant. this study's objective is to analyze the morphological inflorescences and anther anatomical characteristics of the Musa campestris var. sarawakensis. Plant materials were collected in Sanggau regency. Morphological characterizations were conducted using International Plant Genetic Resources Institute for Musa spp. Sampel of anther was prepared using paraffin method, stained with 2% safranin and 1% fast green. Main features observed for Musa campestris var. sarawakensis inflorescence has erect rachis position and color external bract are helpful to characterize the male bud. Additionally, the main characteristics of anther include the presence helical ribs in endothecium. As expected, tetrasporangiate anthers with single vascular bundle in male flowers was observed. The main morphology characteristics of inflorescence and anther anatomy of Musa campestris var. sarawakensis are highlighted in this study, contributing to provide more information about the characterization of this species in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

The Dayak Simpakng community in Batu Daya village, Simpang Dua sub-district, has knowledge of making plaits by utilizing plants in the surrounding environment. The introduction of woven plants to students needs to be done to preserve the knowledge and woven plants of the Dayak Simpang tribe. This research aims to develop an encyclopedia of Dayak Simpang woven plants that is valid and feasible to use in learning. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) research with the Borg and Gall model. The instruments used are validation sheets, questionnaires, observation sheets, and interview sheets. The data were analyzed using a Likert scale questionnaire. This research involved three material expert validators, three media expert validators, and three language expert validators. The development trials were conducted in small-scale trials and large-scale trials. A total of 42 students were involved in the trial with a division of 12 students in the small-scale trial, and 30 students in the large-scale test. The results of validation by material experts obtained 92.18% (very valid), the results of validation by media experts obtained 96.66% (very valid), and the results of linguist validation obtained 93.51% (very valid). Based on the results of the small-scale trial, the score was 85.06%, and the results of the large-scale trial obtained a score of 85.50%. These results show that the encyclopedia of woven plants is very feasible to use in learning and get a positive response.

Abstract

Model pembelajaran yang digunakan di SMA Taman Mulia Kubu Raya masih kurang sesuai dengan materi yang diajarkan dan guru menggalami kendala dalam mengaitkan isu-isu atau fenomena sains dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Argument Driven Inquiry berbasis Socio-Scientific Issue terhadap penguasaan konsep dan kemampuan berargumentasi siswa kelas XI SMA Taman Mulia. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan Quasy Eksperimental dengan rancangan Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Pengumpulan data menggunakan test pilihan ganda dan uraian. Analisis data menggunakan interprestasi effect size dengan interprestasi Cohen. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model Argument Driven Inquiry berbasis Socio-Scientific Issue berpengaruh pada penguasaan konsep  siswa sebesar 65,3% dengan nilai effect size  sebesar 1.37 dan berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berargumentasi sebesar 58,9% dengan nilai effect size sebesar 1.12. Kesimpulan model pembelajaran Argument Driven Inquiry berbasis Socio-Scientific Issue berpengaruh besar terhadap penguasaan konsep dan kemampuan berargumentasi siswa.   Kata kunci: Argument Driven Inquiry, Socio-Scientific Issue, Penguasaan Konsep, Kemampuan Berargumentasi

Abstract

Learning media plays a crucial role in supporting the educational process, especially in the 21st century, which demands technological innovation. Based on observations and interviews with teachers at SMAIT Al-Fityan, it was identified that while they have utilized digital media such as videos and PowerPoint presentations, they lack experience in creating or using augmented reality (AR)-based learning media. To address this gap, a training program was conducted to enhance teachers’ skills in integrating advanced technology into their teaching practices by creating AR-based flash cards. The training program included several stages: pre-test, training on AR-based flash card creation, hands-on practice with mentoring, and evaluation through post-test and response questionnaires. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in teachers’ abilities, with the average pre-test score of 20 increasing to 80 in the post-test. Furthermore, response questionnaires showed that 72.7% of participants rated the training material as easy to implement (good category). These findings indicate that the training successfully enhanced teachers’ competencies in creating technology-based learning media, which is expected to support innovative and interactive teaching aligned with 21st-century demands.
