Abstract

Religion-based schools with a curriculum focused on Quran memorization face challenges in integrating general education with religious education, emphasizing reasoning and memorization. Students must possess academic hardiness to actively participate in learning and develop self-efficacy in memorizing the Quran. Additionally, students require social support to reinforce the impact of academic hardiness on self-efficacy. This research explores the educational and psychological factors that can enhance students' ability to memorize the Quran. The study involved 113 participants, and data were collected using convenience sampling for ease of access. The data were analyzed using moderation analysis with SPSS version 22 and the add-on Macro Process by Hayes. The findings indicated that academic hardiness influences self-efficacy in Quran memorization, with social support playing a moderating role. Specifically, the results revealed that only parental support moderated the influence of academic hardiness on self-efficacy (t (113) = 2.88, p0.01). This research is a valuable reference for family studies, highlighting parents' significant role in their children's academic development. This study's novelty is identifying psychological factors contributing to children's memorization of the Quran.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped students’ academic environments, increasing psychological vulnerability due to prolonged social isolation and rising academic demands. This study explores how loneliness contributes to academic stress and whether self-compassion can buffer this relationship. While previous studies have examined loneliness and self-compassion independently, this study uniquely integrates both constructs into a unified model and tests the moderating role of self-compassion-a relationship that has rarely been empirically explored. Using a quantitative method with convenience sampling, data were collected from 88 university students in Indonesia aged 18-25 years. Participants completed standardized scales measuring loneliness, academic stress, and self-compassion via an online form. Multiple regression and moderation analyses revealed that loneliness positively predicted academic stress, while self-compassion had a negative effect. Importantly, self-compassion significantly moderated the impact of loneliness on academic stress, confirming its buffering role across low, moderate, and high levels. These findings demonstrate that self-compassion functions as an emotional coping resource capable of reducing stress associated with social isolation. This study contributes to the literature by addressing a key gap concerning the interaction between social and intrapersonal factors in predicting academic stress, and it offers practical implications for psychological support strategies in academic settings.

Abstract

This study aimed to adapt and validate the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) for Indonesian futsal student-athletes within the framework of Self-Determination Theory. A cross-cultural psychometric adaptation process was conducted, including translation, synthesis, back-translation, expert judgment, and field testing. Data were collected from 61 student-athletes, and content validity was assessed using Aiken’s V, yielding a strong result (V = 0.85). The IMI demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.869) and significant interdimensional correlations, such as between perceived competence and enjoyment-interest (r = 0.516, p < .001). The mean intrinsic motivation score (M = 75.84) indicated a moderately high level of motivation among participants. These findings confirm that the adapted IMI is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring intrinsic motivation among futsal athletes in Indonesia. Theoretically, the study supports Self-Determination Theory in a team-sport context, and practically, it provides a culturally relevant tool for coaches and sport psychologists to assess and enhance athlete motivation.

Abstract

Academic dishonesty remains a persistent issue in higher education, undermining academic integrity and fairness. Peer reporting is a potential deterrent; however, it is underutilized, particularly in collectivist cultures like Indonesia, where group cohesion is highly valued. This study investigates the types of academic dishonesty, levels of empathic concern, and students’ intentions to report a classmate’s misconduct. A survey was conducted among 228 Indonesian university students, assessing peer reporting intentions in response to two hypothetical scenarios—exam cheating and plagiarism. Empathic concern was measured using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). Findings indicate significant differences in peer reporting intentions based on the type of academic dishonesty. Students were more inclined to report exam cheating than plagiarism (t = 10.545, p .001). Additionally, empathic concern negatively influenced the likelihood of reporting exam cheating (F = 7.572, p.05), suggesting that students with higher empathic concern were less likely to report misconduct. These findings underscore the need for universities to establish explicit policies and clear peer reporting procedures for all forms of academic dishonesty. Addressing students' empathic concerns when promoting ethical behavior is crucial in fostering a culture of academic integrity. Understanding the interplay between cultural values, academic dishonesty, and empathic concern is vital for designing effective interventions that encourage academic integrity in higher education.

Abstract

Academic buoyancy refers to adolescents’ capacity to cope with and rebound from everyday academic setbacks. This study systematically reviews recent evidence on academic buoyancy and its psychological and environmental predictors. Using the PRISMA protocol, we searched peer-reviewed studies in Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar published in English between 2019 and 2023. Eligible articles reported quantitative findings on academic buoyancy among adolescents. After screening and full-text assessment, 17 studies were included and synthesized using thematic analysis. Across studies, academic buoyancy was consistently associated with both internal and external predictors. Key psychological predictors included self-compassion, academic self-efficacy, achievement goal orientation, and academic motivation. Environmental predictors included perceived support from teachers and parents, positive school climate, and supportive peer relationships. Several studies also positioned academic buoyancy as a mediating mechanism linking psychosocial resources (e.g., support and motivation) to academic outcomes such as engagement and achievement. Overall, the evidence suggests that academic buoyancy functions as a protective and promotive factor for adolescents’ academic well-being and performance. However, the literature is dominated by cross-sectional, self-report designs, limiting causal inference and developmental conclusions. Future research should employ longitudinal and intervention-based approaches, examine cultural and contextual variation, and strengthen measurement across diverse adolescent populations. A limitation of this review is the restriction to four databases and English-language publications only.
