Abstract

The importance issue in providing comfortable indoor air quality conflicts with the use of energy for mechanical cooling in tropics region such as Indonesia. Natural ventilation is seen as a potential to provide comfort through the change of air within the inside and outside of the space. Natural ventilation becomes a strategy to achieve building resilience towards climate change because it requires no energy consumption. Therefore, this research aims to justify the design of natural ventilation of low-income Islamic Boarding School in Magelang using steady state simulation. The results indicated that among three ventilation strategies simulated in this study, it can be concluded that stack effect is predicted to produce higher air flow rate which results to comfortable predicted observation on adaptive comfort.

Abstract

In Indonesia, retirement is understood as the period when workers stop working after working for a certain period of time. They experiencing a transition phase of their life as they are doing different daily routine from the productive phase before. They are experiencing changes physically and mentally. There are urgency to make good quality environment for retired elderly in their living space. House is a good choice for elderly to be aging in place as they have sense of belonging on it. Because of that, house needs to be redesigned based on how the changes experienced by the elderlies. Here, the study will evaluate a house as in Gresik as a case study for retired elderly and give design strategy proposal to make it elderly-friendly. The method used here are descriptive method which strategies are literature review, observation and interview, problem analysis, and looking forward proposal. The main problem of the house is no adequate ventilation inside, slippery floor covering, and no outdoor space to allow elderly for being active. The strategy proposed are making outdoor space at the back as laundry area and garden, make stack-effect ventilation, and change the floor covering with anti-slip and low-pile carpet material. The existence of a garden will support the positive feelings of parents and other residents.

Abstract

Urban parks are integral components of Green Open Spaces (GOS) with a significant impact on community well-being. This study integrates urban parks with an active design approach to promote physical activity. The research aims to identify active design elements within Abhirama Park, located in Sidoarjo Regency. The choice of active design is based on previous research demonstrating its potential to encourage greater community engagement. The results of this identification and analysis can serve as a reference for future developments of Abhirama Park, with the goal of creating Green Open Spaces that stimulate physical activity in an era characterized by sedentary lifestyles driven by digital advancements. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, involving naturalistic exploration and in-depth examination of the subject. Active design guidelines are used as a framework during the observation and interview processes. The findings reveal the presence of four active design aspects in Abhirama Park: Accessibility, Facilities, Activities, and Management. Each aspect plays a distinct role in promoting physical activity within the urban context.
