Abstract

In high-rise building systems, the envelope, one of which is the facade, has a major role in the reception of heat into the building. This type of glass facade material has properties that can transmit solar heat directly, so that the heat that enters the building is trapped inside and makes the temperature in the room increase. Therefore, there is a need for a solution or solution to reduce the temperature in the room. Currently, technology is increasingly developing, so there are many variations of materials that effectively reduce the cooling load of the space. One of them is PCM (Phase Change Material) which can be used to store the heat energy that enters through the building envelope in very large quantities. To find out the effect of PCM material on the glass facade in the apartment, a study was carried out. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and analyze the effect of the application of PCM material on the facade of the apartment on the temperature in the room. The method used in this study is an experimental method, using field measurements and simulations with Design Builder software. The results of the simulation with PCM material obtained that the most optimal material configuration for thermal reduction is a combination of double glass (tinted and reflective) with PCM gap (Bio-PCM), the temperature reduction is 1.84oC. The effect of thermal performance inside the building on orientation at 60% WWR with double glass and gap Bio-PCM, namely east orientation is better at reducing heat around 2-8oC. compared to the west, north and south orientations.

Abstract

Abstract: The traditional house of the Osing Tribe is one of the various vernacular architectures of East Java. Precisely located in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi Regency at an altitude of 170 meters above sea level, which is included in the low topography of a humid tropical climate with a very high humidity average of about 85%, and an average temperature of 27 ° C, so that it can affect the comfort of the building. This house has three unique types of roofs. The three types of roofs include Tikel Balung, Cecorogan, and Baresan. The Osing traditional house developed from community traditions and took advantage of local potential, including existing technology, materials, and knowledge. However, it is not yet known which type of roof is more efficient in its responsiveness to outside air temperature. This study aims to determine the type of roof of the Osing building that can reduce temperature or respond to current air temperature conditions. This study uses the simulation method. The simulation method is used in this study to examine the thermal performance of several types of roofing envelopes using the Design Builder software version 7. The final results of this study indicate that the vernacular house with the Tikel Balung roof type is better able to reduce the temperature or respond to current air temperature conditions than the Tikel Balung roof type in other types of roof models.Abstrak: Rumah adat Suku Osing merupakan salah satu dari berbagai arsitektur vernacular Jawa Timur. Abstract

Urban sprawl is a phenomenon characterized by the accidental movement of residents from the downtown to the urban periphery. This urban sprawl phenomenon tends to hurt the urban boundary. The concept of spatial hybrid can indirectly be indicated as a form of sustainable urban development that overcomes the problems caused by the negative ImpactImpact of urban sprawl in the urban periphery. This study uses the constructivism paradigm. The strategy in this research is a combination of qualitative research and case studies. It specifically selected case studies in the area of Darmo Permai Surabaya-Indonesia. The Darmo Permai area is a form of urban sprawl that began in 1973. The Darmo Permai area finds harmony between the newcomer and residents through an adaptation process. This harmony is manifested in a hybrid space analyzed from the social aspect of sustainability. The hybrid space is founded based on the activities of its residents, which are characterized by five aspects of the hybrid space. The five aspects of the hybrid space are coexistence, transfusion, interconnection, ambivalence, and heterogeneity.

Abstract

Abstract

Semiotics as a science that studies signs have a wide range of knowledge and one of them is in the field of Architecture which is a result of the cultural process of society because architectural works are the embodiment of the life of that society. Semiotics as the science of signs is capable of being a tool in tracing cultural relations in architectural objects or works. Pura Mandharagiri Semeru Agung as an architectural work that carries Balinese Hindu culture is an architectural work located at the foot of Mount Semeru, to be precise in an area called Senduro in Lumajang district. An architectural object in the form of a gate with the name Wringinlawang stands proudly at the entrance to the area. Wringinlawang in shape and color has a style that is different from the style in the temple area. Therefore, there is a need for a study related to the existence of the wringinlawang object in the middle of the temple area which carries Balinese Hindu culture. To trace the process of wringinlawang's existence and its meaning to the surrounding community, semiotics will be the main tool in tracing the sign, which in this case is the Gapura Wringinlawang. The purpose of this research is to explore the factors influencing the meaning of the Gapura Wringinlawang and to explore the relationship between the signs that are formed. The method used in this research is qualitative research using interview data alongside a literature review. The results of Charles S. Pierce's semiotic study show that the Gapura Wringinlawang contains a symbol of cultural identity for the Senduro community around the temple building. The culture in question is Javanese culture which is manifested through the building style used in the Gapura Wringinlawang building because of the context of the location.

Abstract

Lighting affects how people feel, react, and function in various settings, therefore lighting design strategy for worship room at churches should be aimed not only at fulfil the standard visual performance but should also be set as to enrich the room’s perception i.e. as the God’s holy place as well as a place for contemplation. Lighting problems found at the worship room of GPIB Immanuel Malang are not merely on the inappropriateness of lighting level and distributions, but also on the absence of the church’ nuance as a place for contemplation. This paper is intended to report a proposed schematic lighting design for improving the situation. Using visual hierarchical approach, the lighting design aspects such as intensity, colour rendering, type, direction and arrangement of luminaires are determined and integrated. The proposed lighting design strategy is expected to be able to solve luminous problems and create the designated room’s nuance/perceptions.

Abstract

A humid tropical climate characterized by high temperatures, relative humidity and solar radiation results in uncomfortable environmental conditions. Discomfort will be worse if the building is in a dense urban area. Densely building masses often weaken the local wind speed which is necessary for evaporative cooling process in tropical climate. In addition, the narrow distance between buildings can reduce access to daylight. Both of these environmental problems were experienced by SDIT Al Uswah Surabaya, which building is located in a densely populated neighbourhood. Along with the development program of educational facilities and infrastructure at the school, improving environmental conditions with passive concept is maintained and prioritized. Embodiment of the environment with the Selective Environment approach is used in this activity. The results of this activity will be in the form of design proposals for improving ventilation and lighting in classrooms. The limitation of expanding openings becomes an obstacle in fulfilling the natural ventilation and lighting requirements. In addition, the design of a three-storey building with a single loaded corridor requires special consideration for the design of sun shading that is safe for elementary school-age children, but still supports passive lighting and ventilation.
