Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Aceh Besar District is a filariasis endemic area. This endemic state is strongly influenced by people’s perception of filariasis countermeasures. This study aimed to determine relation between family perceptions towards health role in filariasis countermeasures using the Health Belief Model. An analytical survey was applied with a cross-sectional study approach. The study population was families at three villages that are Lambaro Bileu, Lambaet, and Cot Preh of Kuta Baro Primary Health Care. This represents 1,113 families with a sample of 92 families that were selected using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The study instrument was a questionnaire and data were analyzed in a univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. This study showed that the families’ perceived susceptibility to filariasis disease and the families’ perception of the benefits from filariasis preventive actions are influenced the health role in filariasis countermeasures (p value = 0.012 and 0.0001). However, the families’ perception of the seriousness of filariasis disease and the families’ perception of barriers in filariasis preventive action did not influence the health role in filariasis countermeasures (p value = 0.259 and 0.230). The families’ perceived benefits of preventive action were the dominant factor related to the families’ health role in filariasis countermeasures (OR = 12.863; 95% CI = 2.566–93.537) after adjusting with perceived susceptibility to diseases (OR = 8.316; 95% CI = 1.769–26.949).

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The nurse's verbal and non-verbal communication greatly affects the readiness of the patient and the patient's family to undergo surgery. Unclear communication causes misperceptions and the emergence of communication barriers in the nurse-client interaction process. The limited time and information provided are the causes of communication barriers in the client care process. This of course greatly affects patient care, especially in conditions that require intensive care. Methods: This study aims to determine the relationship between verbal and non-verbal communication between nurses and perceptions of communication barriers in families of pre-surgery patients in the intensive care unit, with a correlation design using a Cross Sectional study approach. The number of samples was 95 families of preoperative patients in the intensive care unit using purposive sampling technique. Results: 51.6% of nurses' verbal communication was good, and 50.5% of nurses' nonverbal communication was good, and there were no communication barriers between nurses and patients' families (54.7%). There was a significant relationship between nurses' verbal communication with perceptions of family communication barriers in pre-surgery patients in the intensive room (P=0.001) and there was a correlation between nurses' nonverbal communication with perceptions of family communication barriers in pre-surgery patients in the intensive room (P=0.002). Recommendation: Nurses are expected to continue to communicate effectively verbal and non-verbal with patients and families to prevent barriers in communication.

Abstract

In 2022, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. In 2022, 670,000 women died of breast cancer worldwide. This study aimed to analyze the factors that determine breast self-examination behavior (sadar) in adolescent girls. This study was conducted in the city of Palembang from April to June 2024. The design of this study was cross-sectional. The research team consisted of 18 teams spread to the smallest areas. Data collection used questionnaires and direct observation, with some ratio data categorized to facilitate statistical testing. The population of this study were adolescent girls aged 15-24 years who had both parents, lived with their parents, and were enrolled in high school at the time of data collection (inclusion criteria). The Chi-Square test was used for analysis, with data processing using computerized statistics at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results of this study indicate that behavior related to breast self-examination (BSE) is influenced by age (p = 0.010), ethnicity p = 0.000), social environment (p = 0.002), internet access (p = 0.011), information media (p = 0.000), family (p = 0.000), and peer influence (p = 0.000). In conclusion, there is a relationship between breast self-examination behavior and age, ethnicity, social environment conditions, internet access, information media, family influence, and peer influence. The implications of the findings of this study are the need to increase information and education regarding the importance of BSE in the early detection of breast cancer, especially for groups that are vulnerable to the disease.
