Abstract

The study of balance in the elderly is a serious concern. Even the main goal of rehabilitation for elderly people who have fallen is to improve balance. The need for a simple, fast, and accurate balance-checking tool is expected to help the elderly rehabilitation program. The purpose of this research is to produce Assistive Technology in fulfilling ADL to reach the SMART elderly. Research Methods This type of research is a cross-sectional study with observational (survey). Observation of balance in the elderly with two measuring devices, namely balance and walking speed. This research was conducted at the Tresna Werda Nursing Home Jakarta in August 2022. The number of residents of the Tresna Werda Jakarta Nursing Home who participated in the inclusion and exclusion criteria selection was 30 people consisting of 10 (35%) men and 30 ( 65 %) females. The elderly who have fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria become research subjects. In this study of the elderly using the I Care Stick, the results were better than the ordinary stick with a significance of 0.001. The average speed of respondents walking using the I Care Stick was 28.47 seconds and the normal walking stick was 31.87 seconds. In this study, it was found that the balance of the elderly who used the I Care Stick was more stable than the elderly who walked using a regular cane with a significance of 0.001, with the average slope that occurred on the I Care Stick at 21.13 seconds and the regular cane at 10.53. The elderly who used the I Care Cane significantly (p-value: 0.001) seemed to walk better than the regular cane with an average speed of 34.70 seconds, while the average speed of the cane was 42.80 seconds. The balance of the elderly who uses the I Care Cane is very significant compared to the elderly who walks using a regular cane.

Abstract

Background: The flexible transfemoral prosthesis is known to improve the level of independence in performing the daily activities of transfemoral amputees. Dynamic balance is needed by transfemoral amputee patients to be able to move properly. Methods: The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental research design with the post-test-only design method. A sample was obtained by the purposive sampling process. The Four Square Step Test (FSST) is used as an instrument to measure the dynamic balance. It was performed on 30 transfemoral amputee patients using axillary crutches, and then the patient wears a flexible prosthesis. The research was done at PT Kuspito Orthotic Prosthetics, and it was carried out from May to September 2022. Results: The research subjects were transfemoral amputee patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria determined by the researcher, a total of 30 patients. The subjects in this study were mostly male: 23 patients (76.67%). The largest proportions of respondents are aged 26–45 years (adults), as many as 17 people (56.675). The data normality test was obtained from dynamic balance using the four-square step IP-value of 0.07, which indicates that the data is normally distributed. With a significance of 0.000 and an average time to perform the four square step of 12.54 seconds versus 22.45 seconds with axillary crutches, patients walking with flexible artificial limbs had more stable balance than patients walking with axillary crutches. Conclusion: Patients with flexible artificial limbs are more balanced. It is recommended for transfemoral amputee patients to use a flexible prosthesis to improve dynamic balance when walking, so they can move better.

Abstract

Physically disabled is someone who has a movement system disorder or has physical abnormalities such as amputation, withering, stiffness, and others. The self-confidence of someone who has an amputee can be improved by having a prosthesis made, because it can replace the anatomical and functional functions of the body. The socket on the prosthesis is the most important component, because the use of the socket on the prosthesis is directly related to the patient's stump. One of the materials for making socket prosthesis is fiberglass. However, the use of fiberglass has a negative effect, namely it produces gas and dust emissions that can irritate stumps, is not a local product, and is difficult to recycle. Alternative fiber materials are using fibers from nature, coco fiber is an option as an alternative to fiberglass. The tensile strength test is the most basic test. The tensile strength test was carried out to determine the stress, strain, and elastic modulus of the fibrous polymer composites. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the tensile strength between fiberglass and coconut coir fiber, so as to find out which fiber material is suitable as an alternative to fiberglass in the manufacture of socket prosthesis. Using experimental quantitative methods. The composite material uses coconut coir fiber which was previously treated with 5% NaOH for 1 hour and then dried for 2-3 days. In the fabrication process using the vacuum bag method. Standard specimen refers to ASTM D3039/3039M. Tensile testing showed that the average tensile strength value of the coco fiber composite was 16.2 MPa and the average tensile strength value of the fiberglass composite was 30.2 MPa. This means that the value of the tensile strength of coco fiber is still below fiberglass and cannot be used as a substitute for fiberglass. However, coconut coir fiber can be used as an alternative to fiberglass, judging from the average maximum force that the coco fiber composite can withstand, which is 2630 N or equivalent to a load of 263 kg, this value is sufficient for the average adult weight in Indonesia with an average weight of 60 kg body
