Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari informasi dan gambaran yang jelas mengenai tindak tutur tidak langsung direktif dalam terjemahan novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. Terjemahan novel tersebut  dilihat dan dikaji dari aspek tindak tutur yang mempunyai unsur dan fungsi tuturan direktif tidak langsung juga penerjemahannya.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik analisis isi. Adapun objek data dalam penelitian ini adalah terjemahan novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, karya Khaled Hosseini. Bahasa sumber novel tersebut menggunakan bahasa Inggris dan diterjemahkan ke bahasa Indonesia oleh Berliani M. Nugrahani. Novel ini mengajarkan kebenaran, ketegaran, serta kesabaran dalam menghadapi segala permasalahan yang ada di hidup manusia. Bahwa dengan kekuatan diri dan keyakinan akan selalu ada jalan dariNya dapat mengantarkan kita kepada sesuatu yang kita butuhkan. Peneliti menemukan tindak tutur tidak langsung direktif sebanyak enam fungsi tuturan, (1) saran, (2) suruhan, (3) desakan, (4) permintaan, (5) ajakan, dan (6) pemaksaan. Terjemahan novel yang di dalamnya terdapat tindak tutur tidak langsung direktif juga dianalisis dengan pendekatan teori penerjemahan. Dilihat dari aspek kesepadanan terjemahan, kesepadanan dinamis lebih banyak digunakan daripada kesepadanan formal. Manfaat dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai tambahan informasi dan referensi bagi siapa saja yang ingin memperdalam kajian pragmatik khususnya dalam tindak tutur.Kata kunci: tindak tutur, penerjemahan, novel.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how students' perceptions of pronunciation after getting the  subject of phonetics and  phonology.  To  answer the formulation of this problem,  researcher  used  a qualitative  descriptive  approach.  Subjects  in  this  study  are  students  of  English  Education University Singaperbangsa Karawang who have taken the course. The data of this study were obtained  from questionnaires were  given to  six  students as respondents.  The results of this study indicates  that respondents  have the  same perception  that English  learners are  greatly assisted   by   phonetics   and   phonology   courses   in   improving   pronunciation,    reducing pronunciation mistakes,  being able to  read  phonetics transcription in the dictionary and  also increase confidence  when speaking English  both in and out of class.

Abstract

This study attempts to investigate the problems and strategies in solving incorrect pronunciation on English education students. The research used descriptive method. The subjects of this research were 6 students, department of English education. The technique of the data collection were a test recording and interview. Test was used to understand the students problems and interview was conducted to re-check the information and data obtained. Results showed English pronunciation problems were caused by the difference of language system between English and Bahasa, students had a lack of mastery of consonant and vowel in accordance with international Phonetics alphabet, the incompatibility of the placement place and manner of articulation. Strategies to overcome the problems of English pronunciation learning by using audio-visual media, the lecturer gave oral corrective feedback for those students who got the errors in pronunciation, students used the mobile phone application in supporting individually pronunciation learning and students had a lot of practicing in reading english texts were provided by lecturer.

Abstract

 AbstractThis study aims to determine the mistakes in English pronunciation of students from videos published on social media (Instagram). The video made is the task of the Introduction to Linguistics course, the material presented in the video is the terminology of linguistics taught in classrooms starting from the understanding of linguistics, language, phonetics and phonology, semantics, morposyntax (morpheme, free morpheme, bound morpheme, inflectional, derivational , phoneme, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, and other linguistic material The design of this study uses a descriptive qualitative approach.The samples taken as study participants are second semester students of English language study programs.The sampling technique uses purposive sampling of 6 people.The results of this study indicate that there is a pronunciation error caused by incorrect place and manner of articulation, besides there is a pronunciation error and word suppression in English.The implication obtained in this research is, by knowing the common mistakes that occur in the pronunciation of this language. English and can reduce errors for other English learners.

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the response of E-portfolio on EFL students’ speaking classroom. This study conducted to examines whether e-portfolio has good effect on improving student speaking skill. This study conducted at one of the junior high school in Bandung in the academic year 2019/2020. Seven students participated in this study. The type of this study was qualitative research and its design was a case study. The data obtained through observation, interview, and documentation. The findings of the research showed that E-portfolio has a positive response from the students. It was proven by the result of the data that the students helped by using E-portfolio as a speaking learning media. In addition, the result of this study indicates that E-portfolio is an interesting learning media to help students on their listening skills.

Abstract

The researcher chooses this title because she found students who have difficulties to start writing at tenth grade students in SMAN 1 Mandirancan. Therefore, the aimed of the research are to know the students’ responses toward Journalistic Questions Method and to know how Journalistic Questions can be applied in teaching writing recount text at tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Mandirancan. The research was conducted using the descriptive qualitative method. The participant of this research was the second semester of X social 3, academic year 2019/2020. The data were gathered from the writing practice using journalistic questions method in the recount text. There are two instruments used in this research, i.e. interview and documentation. In conclusion, using Journalistic questions method has positive responses for students and be able to facilitate the students in writing learning process.

Abstract

This narrative study aimed to investigate pre-service English teachers experiences in teaching practicum that focused in teaching grammar during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted by using narrative inquiry as the research design. The participants of this study were two pre-service teachers of English Education Department of UNSIKA who experienced in teaching practicum in seventh semester especially in teaching grammar during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The data related to this study collected using reflective journal, interview, and artifacts. The data that has been collected were analyzed using thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke, 2006). The findings show that (1) the pre-service English teachers tend to use deductive rather than inductive approach in teaching grammar in secondary school during the COVID-19 pandemic. (2) Teaching grammar is very beneficial for pre-service English teachers to enrich their knowledge and teaching skill related grammar. (3) Teaching grammar during the COVID-19 is challenging for pre-service English teachers since some of them are still not superb at grammar. In addition, technical problems such as unstable internet connection and audio issues is resulted grammar teaching ineffective. These findings have implications for pre-service English teachers and students in grammar teaching context.

Abstract

Formative assessment in writing aims to monitor students’ progress on an ongoing writing activity. Several studies reports that online formative assessment can improve students’ writing skill and teacher has the main role of the assessment process. In the other hand, as the novice educator, preservice EFL teacher is still lack of knowledge and expertise. Therefore, this study aims to find out the perception of preservice EFL teachers about their own experience in applying online formative assessment for writing skill during teaching practicum program. Three preservice EFL teachers who had experienced in applying online formative assessment for writing skill during COVID-19 pandemic at secondary schools in Indonesia were recruited as the research participants. This study uses narrative case study research design. Online written interview was conducted to collect the data as the information to answer the research question, the interview data then analysed by using thematic analysis. The findings show several perceptions toward online formative assessment for writing skill such as problems in assessing writing skill, tools in online writing formative assessment, and the benefits of formative assessment for writing skill.

Abstract

The placement of stress also part of learning pronunciation of foreign language. many nonnative English students cannot pronounce the English word in the right way. This study aimed in analyzing students’ pronunciation of word stress in English online class and how do students correct their word stress mistakes. This study was conducted at public Senior High School in Bekasi that involved five participants who agreed to be tested and answered questionnaires. The genders of participants are choosing randomly in eleventh grade. This study found that students still faced difficulties about the pronunciation of word stress. The misplaced stress happened to the two-syllable words, three-syllable words, and four-syllable words.  The words most misplaced stress made by students are the three-syllable. The two-syllable words is also the second most misplaced stress made by students. The students’ misplaced stress are quite similar and those words are not difficult because they are quite familiar to be used in conversation. Since the teacher does not pay more attention to word stress in the class, it makes students do not understand how to pronounce clearly, especially the word stress. Students only follow how the words are produced by the teacher during the learning process. Thus, students use the media on their phones to help them correct the mispronunciation of the word stress

Abstract

The development of technology is helping humans in many sectors including education. Learning English is very important because English is an international language. Moreover, to be able to speak English, students must master 4 skills in English, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students consider listening learning by using audio as the method is not interesting. Listening learning by using english videos is helping students learn interestingly. In this study, the author did a research about students' perception towards english videos as listening learning media. The participants of this research were 2 senior high school students in Jakarta. The qualitative method in this research is based on Creswell. The result of this study is the positive perception of students towards english videos as listening learning method. Keywords:  Videos, Listening, Students’ Perceptions
