Abstract

Karawang is one of the districts in West Java. The city of Karawang is known as a rice barn, a city of heroes, and an industrial city. In the field of art, Song Goyang Karawang is one of the works of young people who become local cultural identities and still maintain their identity in facing the challenges of foreign cultures that enter Indonesia. Goyang karawang song is a product of historical art culture. The aims of this study are 1) to understand the denotative meaning that appears in the lyrics of the song rocking karawang by Lingga Angling Raspati, 2) what the connotation meaning of the lyrics of the song Goyang Karawang is like. The researcher used a qualitative approach and content analysis methods. Sources of data were taken from literature studies and interviews with songwriters, namely Angga Angling Raspati. From the results of the study, it was found that the song has the meaning of changing the rocking karawang paradigm which was different from today. Goyang karawang means Karawang continues to move to grow, progress and develop. The cultural meaning found in the lyrics is a depiction of the life of the people of the city of Karawang which has a lot of rice fields and also industries. In industry, people generally work in companies and it is proven by the existence of Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC). The impact of the meaning of the song is to convey a true meaning of rocking karawang itself.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the strategies used by English teachers at SMK Insan Tazakka, Cikampek to teach reading comprehension. This study uses two English teacher participants at different grade levels. This study employed a qualitative method of data collection. Data were collected through semi-structured interview sessions and author-administered questionnaires. Interviews were conducted with 14 questions to obtain detailed data. And a 25-item questionnaire consisting of three categories. Metacognitive strategy guidance (planning, monitoring, evaluation), cognitive strategy guidance (visualization, summarization), and social strategy guidance (collaborative learning, questioning) are performed to complete the data obtained. According to interview findings, the first English teacher used the K-W-L (Know, Want to Know, and Learned) reading strategy and SQ3R (Surveying, Questioning, Reading, Reciting, and Reviewing) strategy. This was deemed sufficient to cover all aspects of the learning process, and the K-W-L strategy allows students to practice concentration during the learning process. It is even said that the K-W-L strategy can support and help students' reading skills. At the same time, the second English teacher uses her CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) teaching strategy. This is because teachers find the process easy to implement and use. The obtained questionnaire data then corroborated the previous data in writing. It can be concluded that two English teachers at SMK Insan Tazakka use different strategies in teaching reading comprehension in class.

Abstract

Learning English speaking is well-known and taught as a foreign language in school. Among four significant skills, speaking is part of the essential skill because its role fundamentally serves as a means of communication. However, there are problems found in the class such as learners’ lack of self-confidence and lack of English vocabulary. This study is focused on students’ perception of the use Charades game in learning English speaking. The participant of this study is five students from junior high school in Karawang. Interview is the instruments use to conduct information related to the learners’ perception of learning English speaking through the Charades game. The data was analyzed through Miles and Huberman's steps. The result of the findings and discussion of data showed that all participants who participated in this study did show a positive perception of charades game and it seems that charades game makes a positive environment during learning English speaking thus the students feel enjoyed and fun when play it. Abstract

The aim of this study focusses on the use of flipped classroom model in grammar learning: students’ responses. This study used a qualitative approach and case study as a research design. This research took place in one of junior high school at Klari, Karawang. The participants of this study were an EFL Teacher and six seventh grade students. This research used observation and interview as data collection technique. The observation was conducted in three times. For the interview session, the researcher interviewed six students where these students were two people who had low level, two people who had intermediate level and two people who had high level in English. The findings of the research showed that the use of flipped classroom model in grammar learning has 3 activity phases, namely before the class, in class, and post class activity. In addition, the findings of this research showed that students’ responses towards the use of the flipped classroom model in learning grammar are positive. The students’ responses are presented into four categories, namely flipped classroom makes grammar learning easier, flipped classroom makes students more active in the class, flipped classroom stimulating students' autonomous learning, and flipped classroom makes grammar learning interesting. Abstract

Speaking skill is an important aspect of communication and must acquire when learning a foreign language. However, many English learners face problems in speaking. This study focused on the student’s perception of identifying problems and solutions encountered by EFL learners in speaking skill. This research was employed using case study methods in which participant of this research is twenty-seven students from one university in Indonesia. The technique to collect data is questionnaire. The finding showed that students as EFL learners faced problems in speaking English. 71,6% of students had faced problem at worrying making mistakes, worry being criticism, and feeling shy. Then, only 18.5% frequently participate in their classes. 96.3% of students lacked of subject knowledge and only 14.8% students are motivated to master the English language. Next, 81.5% of students agree that  mother tongue is easier and they are speak in their mother tongue during English class. Keywords:  EFL, Speaking Problems, Speaking Skill

Abstract

In an ELT environment, English debate is a good extracurricular activity. As a result, it is becoming a noteworthy event in school or university. The goal of this study is to investigate an English teacher's debate teaching approach in an Indonesian high school. The training method utilized was crucial since it improved students' understanding of the knowledge acquisition process (Wegner e. al., 2013). Observation, interviewing, and documenting were used to obtain data, which was then reviewed qualitatively using a case study technique. The findings revealed that the instructor used successful teaching strategies to help the students' debate team win the competition. Regular debate practice, brainstorming, using the 3M concept, and encouraging students were among the teacher's training strategies. Meanwhile, the students' reaction has been positive.

Abstract

Implementasi metode blended learning menjadi sebuah trend untuk murid dan guru di Indonesia yang bertujuan memfasilitasi pembelajaran yang efektif sejak 2019 hingga 2021 karena pemerintah Indonesia membatasi pembelajaran tatap muka. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yaitu narrative inquiry menggunakan wawancara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menginvestigasi tantangan dan kesempatan mahasiswa PLP saat mengimplementasikan pengajaran flex model blended learning. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada 5 mahasiswa PLP Bahasa Inggris di universitas di Karawang yang melakukan pengajaran online di berbagai sekolah. Termuan dalam penelitian ini menunjukan adanya tantangan dan kesempatan yang muncul saat implementasi flex model blended learning. Tantangannya adalah kurangnya pemanfaatan media, konektivitas, interaksi siswa dan alokasi waktu yang berantakan. Selain itu, kesempatan pada penerapan flex model blended learning ialah sumber bacaan dan bisa diaplikasikan di situasi tertentu. Penelitian ini diharapkan bisa membantu mahasiswa PLP Bahasa Inggris, Guru Bahasa Inggris, murid, dan sekolah untuk menjadi lebih baik dalam mengimplementasikan flex model blended learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini telah menyelidiki keterlibatan mahasiswa sarjana dengan umpan balik korektif tertulis menggunakan Google Classroom sebagai media platform. Studi kasus ini telah mengeksplorasi bagaimana siswa secara afektif, perilaku, dan kognitif terlibat dengan umpan balik korektif tertulis dalam penulisan tinjauan pustaka. Pesertanya adalah lima mahasiswa dari salah satu perguruan tinggi negeri di Indonesia. Siswa diminta untuk menulis 750 kata literature review selama tiga minggu. Ini memeriksa data dari berbagai sumber termasuk kuesioner dan wawancara. Studi ini telah menemukan bahwa siswa secara afektif, perilaku, dan kognitif terlibat dengan WCF: secara afektif, peserta menunjukkan berbagai jenis emosi; secara behavioral, siswa menemukan bahwa siswa menjadi aktif menulis karena difasilitasi dengan WCF; kognitif, peneliti menemukan bahwa WCF berguna dan mengarah ke perbaikan.

Abstract

The aims of this research was to explore speaking learning strategies used by proficient students of twelve class at a state senior high school in Jakarta in 2022/2023 academic year. This research provide one research question: what is speaking learning strategies used by proficient students of twelve class at a state senior high school in Jakarta? The study was conducted by using quantitative research as the research design. The participants of this study were 72 top grade students of science and social class of a state senior high school in Jakarta. The instruments used in this study were speaking learning strategy questionaire that indicate speaking learning strategies proposed by Oxford (1990). The findings of this study found that proficient students of twelve class at a state senior high school used speaking learning strategies had 2,8 medium usage level of speaking learning strategies with the frequent speking learning strategies was metacognitive strategies in 3,2 medium usage level, second was affective strategies in 3,1 medium usage level, and the third was compensation strategis which had 2,9 medium usage level. So it could be conclude that metacognitive strategies was the dominant speaking learning stategies used by top grade of twelve class at a state senior high school. Keywords:  Proficients Students of Twelve Class; Speaking; Speaking Learning Strategies

Abstract

The implementation of efficient educational facilities and infrastructure is necessary for the implementation of quality education. Principals play an important role in implementing effective management, which helps improve the educational services provided in schools. The purpose of this study was to analyze the managerial application of prophetic school principals in the implementation of educational facilities and infrastructure in order to improve learning services at Annihayah Middle School, located in Rawamerta District, Karawang Regency. The approach taken by the implementing team consists of providing direction, training, mentoring, and evaluating the client's progress. The conclusion that the Prophet's Principal Managerial Implementation training in the Management of Educational Facilities and Infrastructure was successful can be drawn from the evaluation findings conducted by the community service team. The post test score after the training was held was 91.32%, much higher than the pre test score which was 63.12%. However, due to the limited time available, this training was not without drawbacks, especially in terms of the participants' level of understanding of the subject matter.
