Abstract

Many teenagers are entangled in promiscuity which results in unwanted pregnancies, early marriages, or abortions. How a teenager decides something in their life is influenced by their previous experience and environment. This study aims to determine the critical thinking and decision-making skills of pre-adolescence children in terms of reproductive health. This research is a cross- sectional study conducted on 12,689 pupils in Semarang, Central Java Province, Indonesia. The proportion of respondents based on sex and grade is quite balanced. As many as 49% of the pupils lack knowledge and a permissive attitude (52.5%) about reproductive health. Of 50% of pupils have low critical thinking skills and only 61.4% have good decision-making skills. Girls have better critical thinking skills than boys (p=0.004). Knowledge affects critical thinking and decision-making skills in pupils (OR=1.2). Pupils who can think critically tend to have good decision-making skills (p<0.001, OR=5.1). Decision-making skills in children are influenced by critical thinking skills. Both are influenced by knowledge. The health and education offices need to collaborate to increase pupils’ health and reproductive knowledge.

Abstract

The trial implementation of the PrEP program as an HIV prevention program in Semarang City has not run optimally. Health workers with an essential role as program implementers still experience technical and technical obstacles in recording and reporting, which are quite complicated. It is necessary for a program that has been running for almost 3 years to carry out more in-depth studies, especially for health workers who play a direct role in providing PrEP services. Data collection was descriptive and qualitative, using in-depth interviews. The study subjects consisted of nine primary informants and four triangulated informants using purposive sampling. Data validity is carried out by triangulating data sources. Data reliability is measured by data audit and data analysis using the content analysis method. The study results show that health workers' implementation of the PrEP program differs from the management guidelines published by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2023. Most health workers have a low level of knowledge regarding the PrEP program and perceive that the PrEP program supports LGBT and free sex. As a result, intrapersonal conflict arises because it is considered to conflict with one's thought patterns and conscience. The conclusion is that the low level of knowledge among the majority of PrEP program implementers significantly influences the PrEP program's success. Therefore, there is a need for regular, more comprehensive training related to the PrEP program.

Abstract

Background: Previous studies have shown that 3.6% of male adolescents in Indonesia have engaged in sexual intercourse, with permissive neglectful parenting identified as a significant contributing factor. Many children in Indonesia grow up without adequate parental care, leading to the establishment of nonprofit social organizations such as SOS Children's Village Semarang. This study aims to identify the factors contributing to risky sexual behavior among foster care adolescents at SOS Children's Village Semarang using the framework of social cognitive theory.Method: This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires, followed by qualitative data collection through observations and in-depth interviews. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the quantitative data, while content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data.Result: This study found that personal factors, including knowledge, attitudes, and expectations, along with environmental factors such as social norms and peer group influence, significantly contribute to risky sexual behavior among foster care adolescents. These findings emphasize the need for comprehensive interventions involving foster parents, orphanage staff, and peers to improve adolescents' understanding of sexual risks, promote positive attitudes toward sexuality, and strengthen their ability to resist negative peer pressures.

Abstract

Central Java Province is one of the provinces that often experiences disasters. During the period 1 May 2023 – 31 May 2023, 72 incidents of strong winds, 8 incidents of land moving, 107 incidents of flooding, 94 incidents of landslides, 6 volcanic eruptions, and 2 incidents of fire were recorded. In disaster emergencies, the health needs of mothers and children are often overlooked. This study aims to analyze the flow of maternal and child health referrals in health crisis management in the focus location regencies in Central Java Province. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data was collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in March 2023. The research locations were Semarang Regency, Brebes Regency, Grobogan Regency, and Klaten Regency. The sample selection technique used was purposive sampling. The integrated referral system is not yet running optimally. The health referral flow carried out is not yet specialized in treating mothers and children. Pentahelix collaboration is carried out in managing health crises. The supporting factors in disaster management are the existence of policies, the availability of infrastructure for evacuating victims, as well as coordination from various sectors. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors are the lack of trained human resources, limited logistics, and low public awareness regarding disasters. Thus, there is a need to develop a special referral pathway for maternal and child health involving multi-sectors, increase public awareness of disaster management, and strengthen Pentahelix collaboration in health crisis management.

Abstract

Having premarital sexual intercourse has a broad risk impact on health. This is in accordance with the teachings of Islam that should be upheld by all Muslims, with no exception for students living in Islamic boarding schools. To Islamic values and culture, students should have strong self-efficacy to prevent them from engaging in sexual behavior. This study aims to determine the effect of self-efficacy on the sexual behavior of students living in Islamic boarding schools. This cross-sectional study sampled 150 students who lived in Islamic boarding school in Semarang, Indonesia. Students at Islamic boarding schools who had premarital sex were more likely to be found in adolescents aged 19 years (15.2%), male (9.5%), had low self-efficacy (18.2%), and ever accessed pornography (23.1%). Accessing pornography was influenced by sex (p = 0.021, OR = 0.235), while premarital sexual intercourse behavior was influenced by age (p = 0.013, OR = 10.716) and self-efficacy (p = 0.043, OR = 4.602). Younger students with low self-efficacy are more likely to practice premarital sexual intercourse. This study found that accessing pornography had no effect on the practice of sex carried out by students in Islamic boarding schools. The health ministry needs to work with the religious affairs ministry to design programs aimed at increasing self-efficacy among students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Incomplete basic immunization in children aged 11-23 months has potential to increase contracting dangerous diseases risk due to suboptimal immunity. Parents play an important role in ensuring the success of children immunization. This study purpose was to analyze the completeness of CBI based on parents' knowledge, attitude, perception, and satisfaction in immunizing their children. It’s a quantitative analytic study with cross sectional approach. The population were all children with sample of 685 children taken by purposive sampling technique from 31 districts in Central Java province. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed univariate with frequency distribution, bivariate with Chi-Square test, and multivariate with multiple logistic regression. A total of 38.7% children were not fully immunized, especially in booster immunization (73.4%), IPV (25.7%) and MR (15.9%). Partially, it was proven that parent’s knowledge, attitude, perception, and satisfaction were related to completeness of basic immunization. Simultaneously knowledge and attitude together affect the completeness of basic immunization in children with an overall effect of 42%. Parents' knowledge and attitudes are key factors for completeness of basic childhood immunization. Need to improving literacy and strengthening positive attitudes through structured IEC using personal approach, as well as involving key figures in the community in their support for immunization program.
