Abstract

Commodity balance is a collection of data and information that describes the consumption and production conditions of a particular commodity, both to meet the needs of the community and the industrial sector in a certain period of time and applies nationally. Analysis of the tuna commodity balance in Indonesia is very important to understand the balance between production and consumption and its impact on fisheries policy and the national economy. In addition, forecasting tuna production and consumption also plays a crucial role in ensuring resource sustainability and market balance in the future. However, issues such as overfishing, infrastructure limitations, and low domestic consumption pose significant challenges that need to be addressed. Therefore, the objectives of this study are: (1) analyze the tuna commodity balance in Indonesia, and (2) forecast tuna production and consumption in Indonesia. This research takes the object of Indonesia to Japan. The data used is quantitative with secondary data sources from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) and Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan (KKP) from 1994 - 2023. Time series data for 30 years were analyzed using quantitative methods with a descriptive approach for commodity balance analysis and ARIMA models for forecasting tuna production and consumption in Indonesia, selected based on stationarity tests, ACF-PACF plots, and the lowest AIC, SC, and HC criteria. The ARIMA (1, 1, 0) model was selected as the best model for production, while ARIMA (0, 1, 1) was chosen for consumption. Forecasting using ARIMA indicates an upward trend in both tuna production and consumption from 2024 to 2030. Policy recommendations for the government to improve production efficiency, strengthen product quality according to export standards, and expand domestic market access to increase national tuna consumption.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze food security in East Java Province using a quantitative spatial approach and statistical projection. Secondary data from 2019 to 2023 were obtained from BPS (Statistics Indonesia), BKP (Food Security Agency), and the Ministry of Agriculture, covering indicators of food availability, accessibility, and utilization. The analysis was conducted using ArcGIS software for map visualization and the Single Exponential Smoothing (SES) method for projecting the Food Security Index for 2024. Spatial analysis revealed disparities in food security across regions: northern and western districts tend to be classified as "very resilient," while eastern regions and Madura Island, such as Bangkalan and Bondowoso, remain in the "resilient" category with high vulnerability levels. The 2024 Food Security Index projection presents three scenarios: optimistic (91.62), moderate (82.94), and pessimistic (73.91). Food security is strongly influenced by poverty, low Farmer’s Terms of Trade (NTP), limited infrastructure, and dependence on rice commodities. This study emphasizes the importance of data-driven policies, strengthening food distribution systems, investing in women’s education, and utilizing geospatial technology for monitoring and mitigating food crises. These findings reinforce the view that high food production alone does not guarantee food security without equitable access and adequate nutritional utilization. The study provides a foundation for formulating sustainable food security strategies aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 2.

Abstract

Cigarettes have emerged as a significant commodity in Indonesia, notably impacting household expenditures, particularly among farmers. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has categorized cigarettes within the food group due to their substantial influence on the Food Poverty Line (FPL). In 2023, data from BPS Kabupaten Pamekasan indicated that cigarette expenditure per capita ranked second, following food and processed drinks. This trend is not confined to urban areas; it has permeated rural households, including those of farmers. This study aims to analyze the perceptions, motivations, and meanings associated with cigarette consumption among farmers in Samatan Village, as well as its impact on their household expenditures. Utilizing primary data from in-depth interviews and questionnaires, alongside secondary data from relevant literature and documentation, the findings reveal a strong connection between farmers and smoking. Motivations for continued smoking stem from familial and social influences, leading to a significant portion of their daily expenses being allocated to cigarettes rather than food or other necessities. The study concludes that, within the socio-cultural and economic context of Samatan Village, cigarette consumption parallels food expenditure levels. This underscores the necessity for policy harmonization and a comprehensive approach to address cigarette consumption issues, particularly among farmers.
