Abstract

This study examines the impact of aligning teaching methods with student attitudes on population and environmental literacy within the context of social science education. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a 2×2 factorial framework, the study involved 80 twelfth-grade students categorized by attitude levels (high and low). Two instructional strategies, problem-solving, and conventional methods were applied to teach population and environmental issues, such as the causes of flooding in Bekasi, Indonesia due to unmanaged waste and governmental initiatives like clean river projects The findings reveal that: (1) the conventional method generally yields better outcomes than the problem-solving method in improving literacy; (2) students with high attitudes benefit more from conventional teaching; (3) students with low attitudes perform better with the problem-solving approach; and (4) a significant interaction exists between teaching method and student attitude in influencing literacy outcomes. These results emphasise the importance of pedagogical differentiation based on learner profiles. Tailoring instructional approaches to student attitudes can enhance conceptual understanding and engagement in addressing population and environmental challenges through social science education.

Abstract

In trading activities, sometimes certain people take advantage of the situation to take as much profit as possible from consumers. What these parties do is sometimes done in deceptive ways. However, strangely, consumers are actually tempted by their products, and do not even mind their deception. This has the potential to become a legal problem because of the attempt to deceive consumers with ironic slogans and promotional language. Therefore, the purpose of this research is that the author wants to know how sales cases that occur in minimarkets and online shops have the potential to become legal problems. In addition, the author wants to know what kind of promotional language minimarkets and online shops use to manipulate the selling price so that it looks cheaper to consumers so that it has the potential to become fraud. The data collection used in this research uses observation and documentation methods. After that, the data that has been collected will be analyzed using a qualitative approach. The results show that the use of advertising promotional language can increase sales value. On the other hand, the language has the potential to become a legal case because there are elements of price fraud against consumers in accordance with Article 378 of the Criminal Code.

Abstract

Introduction: Pleural tuberculosis is a pleural infection of tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis which commonly manifests as hydropneumothorax. Initial treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs is aimed to prevent progression of the disease and relieve patient’s symptoms. Indication of adhesiolysis and decortication is to remove layer of fibrous tissue and allow the lung to reexpand.Case: A 60 year old woman with shortness of breath, cough, and right-sided chest pain. She had a history of treatment with first-line anti-tubercular drugs for a year stop in September 2016. She was identified with recurrent right-sided hydropneumothorax by chest imaging and thorax CT-scan. Adhesiolysis and decortication were performed on her. Two months later she was diagnosed again with recurrent right-sided hydropneumothorax. VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) revealed fistula involving inferior lobe of the lung. Then, she was treated with second-line anti tuberculosis drugs. After four times reccurent hydropneumothorax, patient showed significant improvement in clinical condition, radiology finding, and lung function test after she finished the tuberculosis treatment.Discussion: Definitive diagnosis of pleural tuberculosis is by the finding of mycobacterium tuberculosis in pleural biopsy, or Mtb culture, and it was difficult to perform. In this case pleural fluid analysis revealed that cause of recurrent right-sided hydropneumothorax was tuberculosis infection.Summary: A 60 year old woman with four times reccurent right-sided hydropneumothorax, and the pleural fluid analysis suggested it was tuberculosis infection. Providing anti-tuberculosis medication based on clinically diagnosed tuberculosis based on flowchart of tuberculosis diagnosis from national tuberculosis programmed are essential to prevent progression of the disease.

Abstract

Background: Teratomas are tumors originate from germ cells, consist of well differentiated tissue from more than one of three layers of embryonic cells: ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Teratomas are generally slow-growing and asymptomatic. Mediastinal teratoma is the most common extra-gonadal germ cell tumor. Superior vena cava syndrome and bilateral paramaligant pleural effusion are complications which can occur in mediastinal teratomas. Case: We report a 37-year-old woman presented with shortness of breath since 1 month before admission, chest pain, cough, weight loss,  swolen of face, neck, and right arm. Chest x-ray showed mediastinal tumor. However, no mediastinal tumor had been detected by chest x-ray to examine her heart disease 3 years earlier. Chest computed tomography scan showed anterosuperior mediastinal tumor surrounding great blood vessels and bilateral pleural effusion. Computed tomography guided transthoracic fine needle aspiration biopsy revealed  tumor containing mature squamous epithelial component. Patient underwent open biopsy by sternotomy and histological assessment confirmed the diagnosis as mediastinal teratoma with vascular lesions predominantly resembling vascular tumor. Conclusion: Establishing the diagnosis of mediastinal teratoma is challenging and it requires multi modality approaches.  Keywords: Mediastinal teratoma, vena cava superior syndrome, bilateral paramalignant pleural effusion.
