Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to determine the effect of self confidence on student’s mathematical problem solving abilities. The population in this research was all seventh grade students of SMP Swadhipa 1 Natar in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year which were distributed in three classes, namely grades VIIA, VIIB and VIIC. The samples of this research were students of class VIIB and class VIIC who were selected by cluster random sampling technique with a total of 50 students. Research data taken in the form of quantitative data obtained from self-confidence questionnaires and tests of student’s mathematical problem solving abilities. Based on the results of hypothesis testing using linear regression analysis and correlation coefficient, it can be concluded that self-confidence has an effect on student’s mathematical problem solving abilities. Keywords: effect; mathematical problem solving; self confidence AbstrakPengaruh Self Confidence Terhadap Kemampuan Pemecahan masalah Matematis Siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh self confidence terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Populasi pada penelitian ini yaitu seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Swadhipa 1 Natar semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2021/2022 yang terdistribusi pada tiga kelas yaitu kelas VIIA, VIIB dan  VIIC. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIIB dan kelas VIIC yang dipilih dengan teknik cluster random sampling dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 50 orang. Data penelitian yang diambil berupa data kuantitatif yang diperoleh dari angket self confidence dan tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan analisis regresi linier dan koefisien korelasi diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa self confidence berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Kata kunci: pengaruh; kemampuan pemecahan masalah; self confidence.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/mtk/v10i2.pp196-207

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is a 21st-century learning skill that students must possess. Students with low critical thinking skills will encounter difficulties in problem-solving. The critical thinking skills of students are still lacking due to the use of inadequate teaching materials that do not meet the students' needs. This research aims to analyze the need for student worksheets (LKPD) oriented towards the Discovery Learning model to enhance students' critical thinking skills. This research is of a qualitative analysis type. The study was conducted at MIN 2 West Lampung. The subjects of this research were 1 teacher and 25 students in Grade VA. Data collection was conducted through observation and interviews. The activities carried out during the observation phase involved observing teaching and learning activities, analyzing lesson plans (RPP), and analyzing the learning resources used in the classroom. During the interview phase, the research results indicate that both teachers and students require student worksheets (LKPD) oriented towards discovery learning that can enhance critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Problem solving is one of the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Educational demands in the 21st century all learning is directed at learning high-level thinking and being able to solve problems, bearing in mind that Indonesia's 2018 PISA results are still below average and starting in 2021 the National Examination will be abolished and replaced with AKM whose questions are of the HOTS type. As well as the results of the 2021 National Assessment at the Cendikia Tulang Bawang Integrated Islamic Middle School showing the results of students' mathematical literacy reaching a minimum competency with a distribution of student abilities of 4.65% proficient, 51.16% proficient, 41.86% fundamental and 2.3% needing intervention . The purpose of this study was to determine the mathematical problem solving skills of junior high school students on the Pythagorean theorem material based on higher order thinking skills (HOTS) questions in terms of conceptual understanding. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with high, medium, and low concept understanding student categories. The results of this study on average have been able to understand the existing problems, but in the implementation stage of problem solving only medium and high students were able to solve them correctly.
