Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of Islamic education in madrasahs and pesantren. The significance of comprehending the distinctions between the two institutions' methods in accomplishing the objectives of Islamic education forms the basis of the study's background. Descriptive qualitative research methodology is employed, and literature reviews are done to gather data. The study's findings demonstrate notable variations in curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices. Pesantren places a strong emphasis on students' character and spiritual growth via habituation in everyday life and a holistic approach. The formal education system used in madrasahs, on the other hand, is centered on the mastery of structured academic understanding and cognitive knowledge. Every strategy has pros and cons when it comes to producing graduates who are obedient, informed, and morally upright. The study's conclusions confirm that both establishments are strategically important to Indonesia's growth in Islamic education. To develop a more contemporary, integrative, and contextual Islamic education methodology, a thorough grasp of each is required.

Abstract

Evaluation in Islamic education plays a strategic role not only in measuring learning outcomes but also in shaping students’ character and spiritual integrity. This article aims to examine evaluation approaches and strategies aligned with Islamic values while offering a new integrative conceptual model. Employing a descriptive-qualitative approach through literature review and supported by field-based practices in Islamic schools and madrasahs, this study finds that ideal evaluation in Islamic education must address three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. These are best assessed through a combination of quantitative, qualitative, and holistic approaches. Current evaluation practices—such as value-based assessment, technology integration, and authentic assessment—have shown potential in Islamic educational institutions, though their implementation remains inconsistent. As a conceptual contribution, this article proposes the Integrative-NTA Model of Islamic Educational Evaluation (Values, Technology, Authentic Assessment), which frames evaluation as a transformative process grounded in Islamic ethics. The model provides a comprehensive, context-sensitive framework that bridges classical evaluation theory with the demands of contemporary Islamic education. It offers practical guidance for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers to construct meaningful, value-oriented assessment systems.

Abstract

This article examines the application of Qur'anic principles in Islamic education supervision to improve the quality of education. Using a qualitative approach and conceptual analysis, this study focuses on identifying Qur'anic principles relevant to educational supervision, namely mas’ūliyyah (responsibility), amānah (trust), iḥsān (continuous improvement), syūrā (deliberation and collaboration), and taqwīm (evaluation). The literature selection process was based on the criteria of relevance, validity, credibility, and novelty of the sources. Data were collected through identification, selection, and review of relevant literature, followed by qualitative descriptive analysis through stages of Identification of Qur'anic Verses, Interpretation of Verses, Contextual Analysis, and Thematic Synthesis. The results show that these Qur'anic principles have both relevance and practical application in the context of Islamic education, in terms of both moral development and the enhancement of teacher competencies. Implementing these Qur'anic principles in educational supervision improves academic performance and fosters an academic culture based on moral and spiritual values. This study also demonstrates that synthesizing Qur'anic principles with modern educational theories contributes to the development of a transformative and collaborative supervision model aimed at enhancing educational quality.

Abstract

Learning evaluation is an essential component of the educational process, particularly in the context of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), which aims to nurture individuals who are religious and possess noble character. To date, the practice of evaluating IRE in many schools has largely focused on cognitive aspects, while the dimension of spirituality—the core of Islamic education—has often been overlooked. This study aims to examine the urgency and implementation of the spirituality dimension in the evaluation of IRE learning at primary schools in Bengkalis Regency. Employing a quantitative-descriptive approach, the study involved a population of IRE teachers from 30 public and private primary schools. A purposive sample of 60 teachers was selected. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire based on a spirituality scale developed from the following indicators: awareness of God’s presence, sincerity, moral responsibility, and students’ inner transformation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentages and means). The findings reveal that 82% of teachers acknowledge the importance of spiritual evaluation; however, only 41% consistently integrate it into their daily assessment practices. Most teachers (67%) admitted difficulties in measuring spiritual aspects objectively and systematically. Evaluation remains dominated by written tests and behavioral observations, with no explicit spiritual rubric. This study recommends the development of contextual spiritual evaluation instruments, teacher training in authentic spirituality-based assessment, and policy support from educational stakeholders to position the spirituality dimension as a central pillar of IRE evaluation. The study affirms that the success of IRE cannot be adequately measured by exam scores alone, but rather by the extent to which students experience genuine spiritual appreciation and transformation.
