Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate in depth the approaches, methods, and strategies prospective Indonesian English teachers employ when instructing Thai elementary school students learning English as a foreign language in vocabulary. Prospective English teachers in Indonesia were administered questionnaires, which were subsequently subjected to quantitative analysis in order to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of their pedagogical approaches. The findings of the study underscore the prevalence of the combination approach in vocabulary instruction, whereas the favorable reactions of students towards the implementation of technology, role-based activities, and games suggest that the interactive approach has been effective. However, parental involvement in supporting the learning process and comprehension of the local cultural context could be strengthened in order to increase the applicability of instruction. In general, these results provide a significant contribution to the advancement of English language instruction approaches that are more responsive and efficient, particularly as they pertain to the acquisition of English as a second language in elementary schools in Thailand. The findings of this study underscore the importance of further developing responsive and diverse pedagogical approaches, in addition to fostering greater collaboration among educators, learners, and guardians, in order to optimize the efficacy of English vocabulary acquisition in multicultural environments such as the one described.

Abstract

The challenges brought by Covid-19 have threatened not only the economy and health fields but also the educational sectors. In light of education, this issue has led to the swift migration of the learning process from conventional mode to online learning which has resulted in another bottleneck. The current study explores the perception of EFL Indonesian college students about the challenges and benefits of learning speaking through the online system during the Covid-19 outbreak. Forty-five college students participated in this study and were inquired through a semi-structured questionnaire in the weeks following the final term examinations for the academic year 2020-2021. The data was probed by using grounded theory proposed by Creswell. The findings exposed that effectiveness, online benefits, and improvement opportunities were the benefits obtained by students from the online learning. Meanwhile, distraction and information overload, a technical error in online learning technology and internet connectivity matters as well as limited interaction and inadequate support were hindrances that often hampered the students.  Consequently, this scholarly paper also provides advice on the essence of the readiness of adequate facilities and the collaboration from stakeholders; government, teachers, students, and parents to successfully implement online learning.

Abstract

Writing is a critical language skill that students must acquire; nevertheless, the teaching and learning process for writing in the classroom does not go smoothly. As a result, the purpose of this study is to examine Wordtune's potential as a digital writing aid to enhance the written proficiency of English as a foreign language (EFL) students. To accomplish this goal, a pre-experimental research design was used with quantitative research tools. The pre- and post-tests were employed as tools for gathering data. Twenty students in grade ten at SMK-BM PAB 3 Medan Estate, majoring in MPLB and AKL, served as the sample for this study. Tests were given both before and after the intervention to gather data. The significant difference between the pre-and post-tests was analyzed statistically using SPSS with the T-test. The result indicates that the probability value for pre-test and post-test data is 0.000, the Tcount value is 26.536, and the Ttable value is 2.093. Because the value of Tcount > Ttable is 26.536 > 2.093 and the probability value (Sig.) 0.000 < 0.05. As a result, the use of Wordtune considerably enhanced students' writing skills. As this study demonstrated, Wordtune can be integrated into the learning process to help students write more successfully.

Abstract

Speaking proficiency is a crucial skill for global communication, yet many Thai secondary school students struggle with fluency and confidence due to limited exposure to authentic language use and traditional grammar-focused instruction. Existing research on AI-assisted language learning highlights its potential, but studies on AI Gliglish in Thai classrooms remain scarce. AI Gliglish is an AI-powered English learning platform designed to provide real-time speech assessment, feedback, and interactive conversation practice. This study investigates the effectiveness of AI Gliglish in enhancing students’ speaking proficiency and confidence using a Classroom Action Research approach. Data were collected from 30 Grade 7 students at Muslim Satun Wittaya School, Thailand, through pre-test, post-test, interviews, and classroom observations. Findings indicate a 19.25% improvement in speaking scores, increased student participation, and reduced speaking anxiety. The Paired Sample T-Test (Sig. 0.001 0.05) confirms a statistically significant impact. These results suggest that AI Gliglish effectively enhances speaking skills, supporting its integration into English language education to foster engagement, fluency, and confidence.

Abstract

The development of English-speaking skills among Thai EFL students remains challenging due to linguistic differences, rote-learning methods, and limited real-world practice. While technology-assisted learning is gaining attention, research rarely explores the integration of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) with AI tools. This study examines the effectiveness of combining SRL with ELSA Speak AI to improve  speaking proficiency. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR), 30 sixth-grade students at Darul Muhmin Elementary School underwent a two-cycle intervention, with data collected through pre-tests, post-tests, interviews, and observations. Results show significant improvements in pronunciation, fluency, and confidence, with all students surpassing the minimum passing criteria. The study concludes that integrating SRL with AI fosters learner autonomy, engagement, and performance, demonstrating AI’s potential in EFL education.

Abstract

In the context of increasingly dynamic digital communication, multiplayer online games have evolved into socially rich environments where real-time interaction reflects complex pragmatic behavior. This study investigates how players from Southeast Asian gaming communities negotiate face and utilize politeness strategies during live voice-based gameplay. Unlike previous research that centers on text-based or asynchronous interactions, this study addresses a critical gap by examining how paralinguistic elements such as tone, laughter, and vocal exaggeration influence pragmatic choices in synchronous digital communication. Grounded in Brown and Levinson’s Politeness Theory and Goffman’s concept of face, the study analyzes 120 naturalistic voice chat interactions collected from Overwatch 2 and Dota 2 using qualitative discourse analysis and thematic coding. The results demonstrate that players frequently rely on humor, indirect expressions, and culturally rooted metaphors to manage face-threatening acts and sustain group cohesion under competitive pressure. Rather than confronting errors directly, players use strategic tone modulation to reframe criticism as shared amusement, thus preserving social harmony. The study contributes to digital pragmatics by emphasizing the performative and relational aspects of game-based interaction. These findings carry broader implications for understanding emotional regulation, intercultural communication practices, and the development of socially aware interaction systems in online platforms that prioritize rapid, collaborative exchanges.
