Abstract

This research is aimed to know: (1) Whether the increasing student’s critical thinking ability through guided discovery learning methods assisted by geogebra higher than the students who were given guided discovery methods without geogebra, (2) How the interaction between learning and early math  ability of student mathematical learning result. This study was a quasi-experimental study. The population of this study was the entire class of six semester mathematics education which approximately 184 people. Randomly, two classes were selected from six classes.  The first experimental class was given a geogebra assisted discovery method and the second experimental class was given a guided discovery method without  geogebra . The instrument used was a description test. The data analysis has been done by analysis of two-way variance (ANOVA). The results showed (1) the increasing student’s critical thinking ability through guided discovery learning methods assisted by geogebra were better than the students who were given guided discovery learning methods without geogebra. (2) There was no Interaction between learning and early math ability of student mathematical learning results.

Abstract

Online learning makes a difference to education in Indonesia. Learning, which usually takes place in classrooms, is now happening online. For new students, lecturing on campus is something new because they have just joined Higher Education. However, they also have not experienced face-to-face learning but are forced to do it online. This study aims to determine the views of new students towards online lectures. Researchers view this as very important to do to determine the activity of lectures and the level of student satisfaction in attending lectures and to eliminate the desire of students to stop attending. This study used a cross sectional survey method with a measuring instrument in the form of a questionnaire distributed via google form. The subjects in this study were 254 new elementary school teacher education students. The research results reveal that; 1) 87.8% of students attend lectures using internet data packages, and 11% of students use wifi; 2) The applications used during the covid-19 epidemic were through university e-learning totaling 232 students, Zoom 191 students, Google Meet 166 students, Whatsapp Group 151 students, Google Classroom 57 students and Microsoft Teams 9 students; 3) new students did not understand the material provided during the online lecture by 48.8%, 45.7% had enough to understand, 4.3% did not understand and very much understood 1.2%. Students enjoy lecturing online, but they hope that lectures will be conducted face-to-face, this is because they have not felt the climate of lecturing at the university since joining UMSU. The results of this study can be used as a basis for improving the implementation of online lectures and academic services in the Elemetary School Teacher Education.

Abstract

The process of learning conducted by lecturers in higher education currently obliges the student learning activities which are derived from the student centered learning (SCL) approach. This active learning must also be integrated with website-based IT information technology. Internet-based learning is a learning model that uses internet and web-based technology in accessing learning materials and allows learning interactions between fellow students or with lecturers anywhere and anytime.  On this origin, this research intends to develop digital teaching materials that can be accessed by students at any time because they are integrated with Android. This research uses development research (r&d) methods. In this research, the phases taken are: 1) designing digital teaching materials, validating design experts and material experts. The outcomes proved that the design for developing internet-based teaching materials was carried out in three phases, that is the needs analysis phase (PDP UMSU 2020), the design phase, and the development and implementation phase.  In the design phase, expert validation is carried out. The outcomes of the validation of the material content experts are in good qualification (88%), the outcomes of the validation of the learning design experts are in good qualifications (80%). Thus, it can be concluded that internet-based teaching materials are effective for improving student learning outcomes at the Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) UMSU during the new normal period after the Covid 19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the increase in mathematical communication skills of students who received the Problem Based Learning Learning Model based on Augmented Reality was higher than the increase in mathematical communication skills of students who did not receive a problem-based learning model. Students' mathematical communication skills measured in this study include students' abilities in terms of modeling, namely:Presenting real objects, pictures, or diagrams into mathematical ideas, Drawing is Expressing mathematical ideas orally or in writing in the form of images or visuals and Reporting, namely Using language, notation and mathematical structures to present and communicate ideas to draw conclusions. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a population of all students of SMP Muhammadiyah 04 Medan Indonesia. Two classes are selected at random from the available classes. The experimental class was treated with a culture-based Problem Based Learning learning model with Augmented Reality assistance, while the control class was not given any treatment. Data analysis was carried out using parametric statistics, namely the t-test. The results showed that the increase in students' mathematical communication skills who were taught through the culture-based Problem Based Learning learning model assisted by Augmented Reality was higher than the increase in the mathematical communication skills of students who were not given the Augmented Reality-assisted culture-based Problem Based Learning learning.

Abstract

This paper addresses the question of how cognitive levels covering high, middle, and low order thinking skills are delineated in the questions seen from Bloom’s revised taxonomic framework and stimulus. To answer this question, the final-term examination questions from five faculty courses were analyzed through document analysis. The documented examination questions are categorized and reviewed based on cognitive levels referring to revised Bloom’s taxonomy. The questions are also construed based on the stimulus in each question. The results report that the cognitive level of tests is not wholly based on higher-order thinking skills. Of the five courses, only one follows the higher-order thinking skills-based question-writing system, and none of the items refers to middle-order thinking skills. Thus, the cognitive level on the test instruments has not led to an increase in thinking skills or is still at a low level of thinking.
