Abstract

Propylitic alteration develops chlorite, epidote, and calcite assemblages commonly found in porphyry copper–gold deposits. This study aims to understand the formation temperature, oxygen, and sulfur fugacity of chlorite, a characteristic central element of propylitic-related minerals such as epidote and calcite, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative experimental methods. The propylitic alteration forming condition was analyzed in detail using a superprobe (JXA-iSP100) and Electron Probe Micro Analysis (EPMA) at a voltage of 15.0 kV. The chlorite composition is relatively homogeneous, and displayed as Mg-rich chlorite (Type-I) within AlIV-Mg-Fe, ripidolite with respect to Si vs Fe/(Fe+Mg). The chlorite geothermometer indicates that the crystallizing temperature ranges from 288.30 to 332.82°C. The oxygen and sulfur fugacity log fO2 and log fS2 of chlorite are low ranges (– 70.4 to – 51.85) and (– 32.55 to – 20.65), respectively. The analyses identify the mineral as true epidote, with spatial variations indicating Fe occurs as Fe³⁺ and Mn as Mn²⁺. However, the examined proportion of moles of the significant elements (Mg, Ca, Fe, Mn) indicates that calcite is present in hydrothermal systems.

Abstract

Many Tertiary hydrothermal altered dioritic composition intrusive rocks were found at the Randu Kuning area and its vicinity, Selogiri, including hornblende microdiorite, hornblende-pyroxene diorite and quartz diorite. The hydrothermal fluids which responsible for the alteration and mineralization at the area is associated with the occurence of the horblende microdiorite intrusion. The alteration zone at the Randu Kuning area and its vicinity can be divided intoseveral hydrothermal alteration zones, such as potassic (magnetite-biotite-K feldspar), prophyllitic (chlorite-magnetite-epidote-carbonate), phyllic (quartz-sericite-chlorite) and argillic (clay mineral-sericite). The alteration pattern in the Randu Kuning porphyry Cu-Au deposit is tipically a diorite model characterising by the domination of potassic alteration and prophyllitic zone. Phyllic and argillic alteration types are restrictive found within the fault zones. A lot of porphyry vein types were found and observed at the Randu Kuning area, and classified into at least seven vein types. The paragenetic sequence of those veins from theearliest to the latest respectively are 1). Magnetite-chalcopyrite±quartz-biotite veinlets, 2). Quartz±magnetite (A type) veins, 3). Banded/Laminated quartz-magnetite (M type) veins, 4). Quartz±K feldspar (B type)veins, 5). Quartz with thin centre line sulphide (AB type) veins, 6). Pyrite±chalcopyrite (C type) veinlets, and 7). Pyrite-quartz+chalcopyrire+carbonate (D type) veins. Gold and copper mineralisation of the Randu Kuning Porphyry Cu-Au deposit, mostly related to the presence of quartz veins/veinlets containing sulfide i.e. Quartz with thin centre line sulphide veins, Pyrite±chalcopyrite veinlets, and Pyrite-quartz+chalcopyrire+carbonate veins.

Abstract

In the process of flotation of copper-bearing ore, several factors such as the concentration of the collector used and the pH of the fluid used can have an impact. In this study, observations were made on the influence of collector concentration and pH on the recovery of copper ores from Papua, Indonesia. The ore samples were obtained from three different site. Preparation of samples were conducted by crushing and sieving to obtain solid particles with a size of +200 mesh. The fine particles then fed into froth flotation device. Froth flotation operations were carried out at different operating condition namely pH (pH 3, pH 6, and pH 9), xanthate concentration (1300, 2000, and 2600 ppm), and time (3, 5, 7, and 14 minutes). The froth and tailings were collected separately and dried in an oven at 60oC. The feed, froth, and tailings were then subjected to EDX analysis to determine their compositions. The results of the experiment showed that higher collector concentrations did not necessarily lead to increased copper recovery. The appropriate pH conditions, however, could optimize copper recovery. The optimum conditions obtained from this experiment were xanthate concentration of 2000 ppm, pH of 3, and the ore sample 2

Abstract

Nanoparticle technology has been widely used in various industries because of its advantages in particle size control systems. One example of the use of nanoparticle technology is copper nanoparticles as an antibacterial material. This research focuses on the utilization of leaching waste as a material for the synthesis of copper nanoparticles. The synthesis of copper nanoparticles was carried out by chemical reduction method between chalcopyrite stone leaching waste namely CuSO4 as precursor, Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB) as surfactant and NaBH4 reducing agent. The synthesized material will be analyzed using UV-Vis spectroscopy. Furthermore, the particle size will be estimated using PSA and its antibacterial properties will be analyzed using the well diffusion method by looking at the effectiveness of the inhibitory power against Escherichia coli FNCC 0049 and Staphylococcus bacteria aureus FNCC 0047. The results of the synthesis obtained the smallest size of 235.7 nm from the ratio of precursor concentration, reducing agent concentration and, a surfactant concentration of 1:20:8. The results of the synthesis of copper nanoparticles with concentrations of 10.000 ppm showed the presence of inhibitory power to overcome Escherichia coli FNCC 0049 and Staphylococcus bacteria aureus FNCC 0047.

Abstract

Mercury contamination caused by artisanal gold mining waste would become an environmental problem if there were no remediation actions. This study aimed to investigate the ability of natural zeolite obtained from Gunungkidul Yogyakarta to stabilize mercury in mining waste or tailing. Tailing samples were obtained from three locations on Kulon Progo, Wonogiri, and Banyumas, and the natural zeolite sample was obtained from Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta. The batch experimental study was conducted to test the ability of the effectiveness of natural zeolite in stabilizing mercury in tailing. The result of the study shows that the natural zeolite used in the experimental study can be used to reduce the mercury concentration in tailing. The natural zeolite's ability for stabilization varies and depends on the initial mercury concentration in tailing and the natural zeolite dose.

Abstract

This study investigates nickel and scandium enrichment within a laterite profile developed on ultramafic rocks in the Lameruru area, Southeast Sulawesi. Utilizing mineralogical and geochemical analyses, the research examines transformations from parent rock through four laterite horizons: rocky saprolite, earthy saprolite, yellow limonite, and red limonite. Results reveal distinct enrichment patterns for Ni and Sc. Nickel is concentrated in the saprolite, hosted by minerals such as willemseite, vermiculite, lizardite, and antigorite, and decreases towards the red limonite, suggesting an initial enrichment during weathering followed by remobilization. Conversely, Sc increases throughout the profile, peaking in the red limonite and dominantly associated with goethite. Nickel is structurally bound within mineral lattices, while scandium is adsorbed onto mineral surfaces, particularly goethite in the red limonite. This contrasting behaviour highlights different geochemical controls influencing Ni and Sc enrichment during lateritization. Further research should explore these mechanisms to optimize recovery strategies.

Abstract

North Sulawesi, including the Tompaso region, South Minahasa district, is a part of the magmatic belts hosting potential hydrothermal ore deposits. This study is aimed to determine the prospect area for epithermal vein-type gold mineralization, based on geochemical exploration including rock and BLEG (Bulk Leach Extractable Gold) stream sediment geochemistry. Mapping of geology, alteration and vein direction, sampling (ore/rock and stream sediment), and geochemical analysis were performed. Gold in rock samples was analyzed by FA/AAS, and other elements were detected by AAS, while BLEG samples were analyzed using the cyanide leach and AAS methods. The study area is occupied by andesitic lava and diorite, which are suffered by silica-clay, argillic and propylitic alteration. An integration of geological mapping, alteration zones and vein direction with lithogeochemical survey enables to determine the prospect areas, which consist of Asam and Polangkok prospects. At the Asam prospect, the ore sample contains gold up to 0.03 ppm, where the gold anomaly in BLEG samples show a threshold of 13.52 ppb Au. At the Polangkok prospect, two NW-SE trending veins (P1 and P2 Veins) were discovered with a width of up to 5 m. Vein P1 and P2 contains of up to 0.31 and 0.16 ppm Au, respectively. Mineralization at the Polangkok prospect coincides with Ag anomaly of BLEG samples with a threshold of 67.18 ppb. The two prospect areas are recommended for follow-up exploration.

Abstract

The mineralizing bearing rocks on the Right Bear prospect are andesite. Geochemical data of rocks indicate that they are classified as intermediate igneous rocks rich in silica. The composition of andesite silica is approximately 60% with a total alkali (Na+K) of about 3.6%. Based on this data, it is known that the dacite affinity is calc-alkaline. The volcanic rocks of the Right Bear prospect are primarily andesite. This study aims to determine the affinity of magma and geochemical characteristics of volcanic rocks in the Beruang Kanan area, Central Kalimantan, as the basis for the interpretation of tectonic settings and mineralization potential. Geochemical analysis was carried out using the X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) method for the main oxide element and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) for trace elements. Samples that have an LOI value of less than about 2% by weight are assumed to be unaltered or fresh rocks and these rocks are generally characterized by the presence of relative euhedral phenocrites and mineral grains and the absence of secondary hydrothermal minerals. The results of the comparison of Co and Th (Hastie, et al., 2007) on samples of fresh/slightly altered rocks and completely altered rocks are included in the affinity of magma of the alkaline limestone type. The results of the comparison of Zr/Y and Th/Yb (Ross & Bedard, 2009) show that samples of fresh rocks and altered rocks are included in the affinity of magma of the alkaline calcage series. Based on the results of the plotting of some of the above methods, it can be concluded that the magma affinity of the Beruang Kanan area belongs to the type of alkaline limestone which can be interpreted as being related to the within plate (in the plate) in the form of a continental expansion zone. This finding has important significance for the exploration of Cu-Au epithermal-porphyry mineralization in the Central Kalimantan region, given that rocks with calc-alkaline affinity in the within plate setting are often associated with economical mineralization systems.
