Abstract

Kapalo Banda Taram Tourism Area, Lima Puluh Kota Regency is one of the tropical rain forest areas in West Sumatra which has a high level of biodiversity that can be disturbed due to the presence of invasive plants, one of which is Bellucia pentamera. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution of B. pentamera, to determine the effect of the number of Bellucian on the number of non-Bellucian and to determine the effect of distance from the river and light intensity on the distribution of B. pentamera. The research using the belt transect with a plot size of 20x50 m2. Data analysis using the Morisita Index and Simple Linear Regression formulas. The distribution of B. pentamera was quite large with the distribution pattern of B. pentamera sapling strata is clustered, while the tree strata had a uniform distribution pattern. The number of Bellucian individuals affects the presence of non-Bellucian individuals as indicated by a negative effect on species diversity, a decrease in the number of species, high dominance and habitat colonization which will limit resources and space for the growth of other species. The distance from the river affects the distribution of B. pentamera where the closer the distance from the river tends to increase the presence of B. pentamera, while the light intensity does not affect the presence of B. pentamera.

Abstract

This devotion looks at the effectiveness of traditional Minangkabau games as a medium for healing trauma for children affected by the cold lava disaster of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra. Natural disasters not only have physical impacts, but also psychological ones, especially for children. A culturally based approach is considered relevant to restore children's emotional well-being contextually. This devotion used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews with 36 children, and questionnaires distributed to teachers and parents. The results showed that 88.9% of children preferred traditional games such as tug-of-war, tire racing, and cracker-eating competitions to modern games. These games, which are collaborative and competitive, help reduce stress, rebuild self-confidence, and restore social interaction. Around 83.3% of children were already familiar with these games before the disaster, making familiarity a key factor in fostering a sense of safety and comfort during the recovery process. Trauma symptoms—such as excessive sleepiness, fear, and sleep disturbances—remained, but play activities showed positive impacts. Furthermore, 97.5% of teachers supported the use of traditional games, indicating strong acceptance in the school environment. In addition to serving as an effective psychosocial intervention, traditional games also strengthen cultural identity and community resilience. These findings update and enrich previous research by offering a local context and a child-participatory approach. Thus, traditional games can serve as a strategic alternative for post-disaster trauma recovery in children.

Abstract

Mangrove canopies play a vital role in the photosynthetic process through their structure and density. The denser the canopy, the more difficult it is for sunlight to penetrate, making it less likely for mangroves in the seedling and sapling stages to receive adequate sunlight. This study aims to determine the mangrove canopy cover using the MonMang application and to determine the influence of environmental factors on mangrove trees. One method for measuring this is by applying the MonMang application in the mangrove forest of Sungai Gemuruh, Pesisir Selatan Regency, to determine canopy width within the ecosystem. The line transect method was used to estimate canopy cover, with transects laid from the shoreline inland through areas with true mangrove vegetation. Along the transects, 10 × 10 m plots were established. The MonMang application was applied to each plot to measure canopy cover, accompanied by data analysis, including the calculation of mangrove tree density. The results showed that the average canopy cover was higher along Transect II (76.88%) compared to Transect I (75.72%). Based on this study, it can be concluded that the estimated canopy cover in the Sungai Gemuruh Tourism Area falls into the category of very dense canopy cover.
