Abstract

Plawangan Timur, located in the Segara Anakan Lagoon, Cilacap, is an estuary with many rivers flowing into it, and has a free connection with the open seas. Plawangan Timur waters suffer increased environmental pressures caused by anthropogenic activities, resulting in pollution, degradation of water bodies, and ecological changes. Ecological changes related to the physical and chemical estuary environment have been considered as major drivers of significant fluctuations in the zooplankton community structure. In order to manage and mitigate the effects of these changes, a prediction of their potential impacts on zooplankton communities is needed. This study aimed to determine the zooplankton community, which includes the abundance index, diversity index, evenness index and dominance index. The method used is a survey method with purposive random sampling at five stations. The F test and the Lackey Drop Microtransect Counting method were used to determine the abundance of zooplankton. The results showed that the abundance of zooplankton ranged from 113-598 ind/L (low); zooplankton diversity index ranged from 1.83-2.03 (medium); zooplankton evenness index ranged from 0.79-0.85 (high) and zooplankton dominance index ranged from 0.166-0.211 (low). Based on PP RI Number 22/2021, the physico-chemical factors of the Plawangan Timur waters are still at the safe concentration for zooplankton, except for the brightness, turbidity, Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and salinity.

Abstract

Silver rasbora (Rasbora argyrotaenia Bleeker, 1849) is one of the native species found in Panglima Besar (PB.) Soedirman Reservoir. High economic value of silver rasbora causes fishermen to tend overfishing. This over-exploitation threatens the native species of fish. Therefore, this study aims to determine several parameters of fish population dynamics so that they become the basis for fisheries management. Sampling was carried out at the PB. Soedirman Reservoir in November 2021, January 2022, and March 2022 using a survey method. The result of this research is, the population of silver rasbora was 3097 individuals dominated by male and small-size fish 0.5-8.5 cm. Length and weight relationship obtained b value <3 which means it is negative allometric. The condition factor ranged from 1.005 to 1.068. Total mortality value (Z) 6.21 per year, natural mortality (M) 1.69 per year, fishing mortality (F) 4.52 per year, with exploitation rate (E) 0.73 per year. The total length of silver rasbora fish obtained ranged from 0.5 to 8.5 cm. The maximum length (L∞) = 12.93 cm and K = 0.62 per year with the Von Bertalanffy growth equation, Lt = 12.93 (1-e(-0.62(t-0.3291))). The yield value per recruit analysis showed that the optimum exploitation was 0.224 and the current exploitation rate was 0.73. The population of silver rasbora was over-exploitation, especially in small-size fish.

Abstract

Transportation is an important part of urban development so that the existence of transportation service places is also quite vital, one of which is the train station area. The train station area has its own characteristics, character, and identity so that it can shape the image of the area. According to Kevin Lynch (1960), a city image contains elements that form the city's image in the form of paths, edges, district s, nodes, and landmarks. Semarang City has two main stations, namely the Semarang Tawang Station area and the Semarang Poncol Station area. The existence of the two train station areas is important so that it is necessary to understand theelements that form the city's image in order to obtain clarity on its identity and character. The research method used is qualitative research in the form of a case study approach with primary and secondary data. The results of this study are in the form of identification of elements that form the city's image in the Semarang Tawang Station area and the Semarang Poncol Station area, where elements are still found that are less appropriate and can still be improved or developed in order to strengthen the identity and character of the train station area

Abstract

Long-tailed macaques represent a compelling model for ethnoprimatological research in human-influenced and culturally significant ecosystems. This study evaluated population dynamics, social structure, and behavior of Macaca fascicularis inhabiting a 0.8-hectare secondary forest enclave surrounding a religious heritage site in Central Java, Indonesia. Three two-week census periods conducted from 2021 to 2023 documented temporal fluctuations in troop size (96–125 individuals), subgroup formation, and behavioral responses associated with provisioning, resource availability, and human presence. These demographic and behavioral patterns highlight the adaptive strategies that enable macaques to persist in fragmented cultural landscapes, while also revealing pressures linked to crowding, reliance on anthropogenic foods, and occasional conflict with visitors and surrounding communities. Beyond their ecological relevance, the findings provide evidence-based insights that can be integrated into environmental and conservation education. The documented interactions between macaques, caretakers, and visitors offer concrete examples for developing educational materials, improving visitor guidelines, and promoting awareness of responsible wildlife behavior at sacred forest sites. This study establishes a baseline for long-term monitoring and demonstrates how ecological data from cultural heritage forests can support conservation learning and sustainable human–wildlife coexistence.

Abstract

Abstract

The Cicingguling River in Kebumen Regency is a freshwater ecosystem that serves as a critical habitat for native fish species, including Mystus nigriceps, which holds high ecological and economic value. This study aims to examine the reproductive characteristics of M. nigriceps over a full annual cycle (November 2022 - October 2023) using a survey method with purposive sampling. Field and laboratory sampling were conducted monthly to evaluate sex ratio, gonadal maturity stage (GMS), gonadosomatic index (GSI), fecundity, and egg diameter. The results showed an unbalanced sex ratio, with the number of female fish far exceeding that of males throughout the year. The GMS III and IV were higher during the rainy season, with GMS III at 295 individuals (female) and 170 individuals (male), and GMS IV at 259 individuals (female) and 144 individuals (male). The GSI and fecundity increased from December to February, coinciding with increased rainfall. The highest GSI and fecundity were recorded in January at 12.98% (females) and 6.63% (males), with fecundity reaching 17,927 eggs, accompanied by high rainfall (403 mm). Egg diameter during the rainy season showed a single peak (0.41–0.50 mm). In conclusion, M. nigriceps exhibits a seasonal reproductive pattern, indicating that the development of aquaculture and population dynamics depend on season-based management strategies. These findings provide a biological basis for data-driven conservation and support the sustainable management of freshwater fish resources in Central Java.

Abstract

Freshwater fish populations are highly sensitive to habitat variation, yet information on how habitat characteristics shape fish diversity in Central Java rivers remains limited. The Ijo River is an important natural system for evaluating ecological factors that determine fish communities. This study aims to assess the physical and chemical characteristics of the Ijo River and evaluate their influence on fish diversity. Research was conducted using survey methods and purposive random sampling at nine stations across three zones: upstream, middle, and downstream. The results obtained are that the environmental parameters varied across river zones. The downstream zone recorded the highest temperature (29.14°C), greatest depth (2.54 m), widest channel (32.97 m), and highest free CO₂ (12.64 ppm). The upstream zone showed the greatest light penetration (74.43 cm), fastest Current Velocity (0.75 m/s), highest dissolved oxygen (5.28 ppm), and highest pH (8.31). Fish diversity also differed between zones. The downstream zone had the highest abundance (4,885 individuals) and greatest dominance (0.17), whereas the upstream zone exhibited the highest Shannon-Wiener diversity index (2.46) and evenness (0.36). These results indicate that upstream zones, with lower temperatures, faster currents, higher dissolved oxygen, and stable pH, support greater species diversity and evenness. Downstream zones, with higher temperatures, elevated free CO₂, and wider river width, show greater abundance but are dominated by a few adaptive species. This pattern, consistent with other rivers, confirms that physical and chemical water characteristics shape distribution, abundance, and dominance of freshwater fish. Thus, fish diversity is a key indicator of river ecosystem health.
