Abstract

The utilization of oil palm trunk could be used as raw material for particleboard. It was not only increased the added value, but also used as substitution of wood. The purpose of this research evaluated the resistance of particleboard from waste of oil palm trunk on subterranean termites attack. The variation of particle pretreatment were dont by soaking the particle in hot water (1,2 and 3 hours) and in cold water (24, 48 and 72 hours.) Particleboard were made from oil palm trunk using isocyanate of 7%, with size 30 x 30 x 1 cm and density target of 0,70 gr/cm3. The evaluation of the samples were done by grave yard test along 100 days for resistance of particleboard on subterranean termites. The result showed that percentages of particleboard weight loss to subterranean termites were 19,99-63,92%. Based on subterranean termites attack, the particleboard made from oil palm trunk was classified as moderate to very destroy.Keywords: oil palm trunk, isocyanat, particle board, subterranean termites

Abstract

These research were to known the particle pretreatment on the durability properties of particleboard on termites attack. The variation of particle pretreatment in this research were done by soaking the particle in hot water (1,2 and 3 hours) and cold water (24, 48 and 72 hours). The particle board was made from oil palm trunk using of phenol formaldehyde adhesive with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm and density target of 0.7 g/cm3. Particle board will be test by grave yard test along 100 days for durability from termites attack and will be compared by Indonesia National Standard (SNI) 01-7202-2006. The result showed that the weight loss of particle board values were 38.63-88.11%. Based on termites attack level, it was classified as very low durability.Keywords : oil palm trunk, phenol formaldehyde adhesive, particle board, subterranean termite.

Abstract

The waste of oil palm trunks could be used as raw material for particle boards. The purpose of these studies were to known the physical, mechanical properties and to know durability of particleboard on termites attack. The variation of treatment were temperature (160, 170 and 180 °C) and pressing time (5, 7, 8 and 11 minutes). Particleboards were made from waste of oil palm trunk using phenol formaldehyde of 8 % with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm and density target of 0.70 gr/cm3. Particleboard were tested physical and mechanical properties and will be compared by SNI 03-2105-2006. Also, it will be tested by grave yard test along 100 days for durability from termites attack.Result showed that density, moisture content, water absorption, thickness swelling, MOE, MOR and Internal bond were 0.65 -0.77 g/cm³, 4.89-7.76 %, 57.36-71.53 %, 7.03-13.28 %, 10.595 -19.258 kg/cm², 57.67 -135.55 kg/cm², 1.67-3.81 kg/cm², respectively. All of density, moisture content and internal bond fulfilled standard. The other hand all of MOE didn’t fulfilled the standard. While thickness swelling and MOR only several which fulfilled the standard. Weight loss particleboard from subterranean termites were 32.33-87.45 %. Particleboard durability was classified as very bad. The best treatment of particleboard was attained by pressing temperature of 160°C for 7 minutes.Key words: oil palm trunk, particleboard, temperature and pressing time, phenol formaldehida

Abstract

The waste of oil palm trunk could be used as alternative raw material for particleboard. The purpose of these studies were to evaluate durability of particleboard on termites attack. Particle pretreatment were done by hot water soaking (1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours) and cold water soaking (24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours). Particle board were made from waste of oil pulm trunk using urea formaldehida of 10% with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm, density target 0.75 g/cm3, pressure 25 kg/cm2 at 130ºC of temperature for 10 minutes. Particleboard was tested for durability of particleboard on termites attack by grave yard test along 100 days and wil be compared by SNI 01-7207-2006.The percentages of particleboard weight loss were 41.05-60.29%. Based on the termites attack rate, all of particleboards were classified as very bad durability. The best of particleboards durability was the board with cold water soaking for 72 hours treatment with 41.05% of particleboard weight loss.Keywords : oil palm trunk, urea formaldehida, particle pretreatment, particle board, subterranean termites.

Abstract

Sorghum stalk bagasse is potential raw materials to particleboard manufacture. In the previous research, sorghum bagasse particleboard had weakness matter in modulus of elasticity, internal bond and thickness swelling properties. Wood shaving mixture will be expected to improve of those properties. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of wood  shaving added to improve mechanical properties of particleboard.  Wood shaving type was added in particleboard manufacturing consist of Meranti, Cempedak, Mahoni, and Durian.  Sorghum bagasse and wood shaving ratio in this research was 50/50 (%w/w). Amount of 10% urea formaldehyde (UF) resin used for binding. Hot pressing process was conducted in 1300C temperature for 10 minute and 30 kg cm-2 pressure.  The result showed that, the thickness swelling (TS) does not fulfill of requirement JIS A 5908 (2003). Cempedak and Mahoni wood shaving mixture resulted of lower the TS value than control and other wood shaving mixture. In generally, wood shaving and sorghum bagasse mixture result in increasing of internal bond properties. Cempedak wood shaving resulted the best of bending properties than control and other mixture. Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of wood species and adhesive type on durability three layers particleboard to subterranean termite attack. The research method using grave yard test on the field. Samples were oven dried before test, furthermore samples were burried for 3 month. After that, samples were washed, cleaned and oven dried.  Furthermore, the measuring of  weight sample to determine of weight loos parameter.The results showed that sengon and mahoni wood combination able to reduce of termite attack level compared with homogenous wood particleboard.  Sengon as surface layer and mahoni as core layer resulted the best durability of board.  The durability of UF adhesive for manufacturing particleboard better than combination UF and MF particleboard. Abstract

Rubber wood asone of light conctruction material was produced from community forest.  The objective of theseresearch was to evaluatethe physical and mechanical properties of tapping and untapping rubber wood for considering as construction materials.physical and mechanical testing refers to british standard (BS:373-1957). The result of these research showed that physical properties value such as air dry moisture content, specivic gravity, and longitudinal, radial, tangential shrinkage were 13,46-22,43%, 0,61-0,73,0,62-1,32%, 1,05-3,65% and 2,39-5,30%respectively for tapping rubber wood.  Furthermore forthe similar patameter, untapping rubber wood were 7,44-14,68%, 0,57-0,71 and 0,6-2,09%, 1,27-4,13%, 2,5-5,35% respectively.The mechanical properties value included of moe,mor, parallel compression strength, and hardness for tapping and untapping rubber wood were 67813-129480 kg/cm2 and52759-107817 kg/cm2, 751,61-1071,68 kg/cm2 and 649-899,74  kg/cm2, 83,79-148,43 kg/cm2 and 80,54-137,88  kg/cm2, 16,99-21,94 kg/cm2 and 12,7-17,9 kg/cm2 respectively.Key words: rubber wood, tapping and untapping, physical and mechanical properties

Abstract

Banana stem is one of alternative materials for particleboard manufacturing. Utilization of banana stems for particleboard can reduce the wood demand for industrial particleboard. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of resin level PF to physical and mechanical properties particleboard made from banana stems and to determine of the optimum resin level from particleboard. Varied concentration of PF resin as binder consist of  8%, 10%, 12%, 14%, and 16%. Size thickness and density target of particleboard were 25 x 25 cm2 x 1 cm and 0,70 gr/cm3 respectively. The result showed that, over all for physical properties density and moisture content had fulfill JIS A 5908 (2003). Banana stem particleboards had low dimensional stability. Trend of water absorption and thickness swelling showed that the increasing of resin level resulted of decreasing water absorption and thickness swelling parameter. For mechanical properties, MOE and IB for resin level 16% had fulfill standard. In generally, the high resin level caused improvement mechanical properties of particleboard.Keywords: banana stems, phenol formaldehyde, mechanical and physical properties, particleboard

Abstract

Banana trunk is agricultural waste which is potentially as one of the solutions to be used as a material utilization berlignoselulosa products such as plastic boards. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the composition of the plastic PP and banana stem particles to quality plastic board and determine the best composition for the physical and mechanical properties of plastic boards. Making plastic boards using a variation of the composition of polypropylene plastic (PP) and banana stem particles are 50:50, 60:40, 70:30 and 80:20. Mixing materials is done by using an extruder machine and compression board sheets using hot compressed at a temperature of 170 0C pressure of 25 kgf/cm2 for 10 minutes. The sample size of 25 cm x 25 cm x 1 cm3 with a target density of 0.7 g/cm3. Data analysis was carried out using a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications.   The results of this study compared with SNI 03-2105-2006. The density value of from 0.52 to 0.73 g/cm3, 1.67 to 4.32% moisture content, water absorption in immersion 2 hours from 1.88 to 11.41%, and 24 hours immersion 5.38 to 28,48%, thickness swelling at 2 hours of immersion from 0.21 to 0.41%, and 24 hours from 0.43 to 0.69%, MOE 2710-6170 kgf/cm2, MOR 50.72 to  128.49 kgf/cm2, IB 1.11 to 2.94 kgf/cm2. Variations in the composition of the plastic polypropylene (PP) and banana stem particles affect the physical and mechanical properties of plastic boards. Treatment on the composition of 70:30 is the best treatment for physical and mechanical properties of plastic boards.Keywords: banana stems, plastic polypropylene, physical and mechanical properties, wood polymer composite
