Abstract

Gender disparities still exist in the business world, yet things are slowly starting to change. Other than that, women have historically faced greater obstacles than men when it comes to achieving success in the business world. Women are becoming leaders in industries and achieving top positions in companies. This paper describes the result of need analysis of women's capacity development strategy among the actors of the community-based creative economy in tourism business. This qualitative approach used observation, interviews with focused group discussion activities, and document analysis as a method to collect data. It was carried out involving 25 women creative economy actors as informants. Business pattern dynamization emerged as one of the strategies to cope with socio-economic issues due to the pandemic, which was done by developing businesses in an agricultural field, fulfilling household needs, online ready-made garments, and opening a business at the beach. The community serves as a social capital that helps creative economy actors in this study overcome hindrances, such as high-interest loans, price war, and unhealthy competition. Hence, these women embody the qualities of resilience, determination, and grit. They prove that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

Abstract

This study set out to determine the degree of historical awareness among Indonesian college students about various ethnic groups, with a focus on Melayu and Batak ethnic groups. The four components of historical awareness are knowledge of historical events, comprehension of historical research techniques, interpretation of historical events, and historical utility perception. The subjects of this study were college students from two different universities: State University of Medan, which represented Melayu students studying history education, and University of Sumatera, which represented Batak students studying history education. Through the use of a historical consciousness exam, research data were gathered. Multiple-choice questions were developed as test instruments, which assessed knowledge of historical events, comprehension of historical research methodologies, and interpreting historical events, as well as considering the value of history. The proportion of the average historical consciousness scores for each ethnic group of college students was used to examine the data. Overall, the analysis of the results revealed that Melayu college students scored 42% higher on the historical consciousness scale than Batak college students, who scored 39%. This indicates that Melayu college students have a greater level of historical consciousness than Batak college students. The T-test result indicates that there was no significant difference in the historical consciousness of Melayu college students and Minang (df = 78, value sig. 0.198 < 0.08). One may argue that Melayu college students have the same amount of historical awareness as Minang students.

Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive literature review on the role of local knowledge in inclusive education. Employing a systematic review methodology, the study involved goal setting, article selection through abstract and keyword analysis, thorough reading, data abstraction, and subsequent analysis using Publish or Perish 8, Mendeley, and VOSviewer. The review focused on articles published in Scopus-indexed journals between 2020 and 2023. Initial searches identified 259 articles, which were refined to 68 based on their relevance to the research questions. The analysis of these 68 articles revealed three principal findings: i) the diversity of local knowledge in the implementation of inclusive education; ii) global support for integrating local knowledge within inclusive education frameworks; and iii) strategies for incorporating local knowledge into educational practices. These findings underscore the potential of local knowledge to enhance inclusive education through culturally relevant and contextually sensitive approaches, fostering more holistic and responsive educational practices. The review emphasizes the necessity of adapting educational strategies to local contexts to better meet the needs of diverse student populations. It advocates for further research to explore local knowledge in greater depth, aiming to develop more effective and contextually appropriate strategies to improve inclusivity and responsiveness in education globally.
