Abstract

This study is a correlational research using a quantitative approach. It specifically aims to examine the contribution of upper and lower limb maximal strength during the start phase and overall performance in 50-meter freestyle sprint swimming among athletes from the Club Science Swimming Team. The study involves two independent variables (upper limb maximal strength and lower limb maximal strength) and one dependent variable (sprint swimming performance). Data were collected using a timing device to measure the speed of each athlete in the 50-meter freestyle sprint. The sample consisted of 10 athletes selected through purposive sampling, based on criteria set by the study—namely, swimmers aged between 8 and 12 years old. The data analysis involved normality testing, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The results show that both upper and lower limb maximal strength have an influence on sprint performance. However, regression analysis revealed that the contribution of both variables was not statistically significant. Among the two, lower limb strength contributed more to swimming speed compared to upper limb strength.

Abstract

Self-confidence is a crucial psychological factor that supports athletic performance, especially in extreme sports like paragliding, which require high levels of mental preparedness. Paragliding athletes face challenges that test their courage, focus, and mental resilience, making confidence a key element during competitions. While many studies have examined confidence in various sports, research specifically addressing the confidence level of paragliding athletes during competition remains scarce. This study aims to describe the self-confidence level of paragliding athletes in a competitive context. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, using a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 50 athletes who had competed in league-level events. The research instrument was based on psychological indicators reflecting internal and external confidence factors. Results showed that 90% of athletes had high confidence, 10% had moderate confidence, and none had low confidence. The mean confidence score was 76.4, with a standard deviation of 5.894, indicating an overall optimal psychological state. In conclusion, paragliding athletes demonstrated high levels of self-confidence in competition, making it a valuable psychological asset for enhancing performance. It is recommended that coaches and sports institutions provide continuous psychological support through mental training and self-efficacy development programs.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of injuries, treatments, and recovery outcomes of Bank Jatim women’s volleyball athletes during the 2025 Livoli Championship using a qualitative descriptive approach. Fourteen athletes were examined through total sampling, with primary data collected from structured interviews and direct observations, and secondary data from documentation and team records. Results revealed that almost all athletes experienced injuries at various locations, with the knee being most vulnerable (10 athletes), followed by the shoulder (6), wrist and ankle (3 each), as well as back, waist, and heel injuries. Internal factors included lack of warm-up, incorrect technique, and low muscle flexibility, while external factors related to court conditions. Treatments involved RICE, sport massage, physiotherapy, injections, surgery, kinesiotaping, and painkillers, with RICE considered the most effective. Recovery outcomes varied by injury type, but medical and physiotherapy support, along with athlete motivation, ensured optimal recovery and readiness to compete.

Abstract

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) can lead to muscle stiffness and reduced functionality if not addressed promptly, negatively impacting one's ability to perform daily activities. This research aims to expedite the reduction of muscle pain associated with DOMS through the use of capsules containing Moringa oleifera leaf extract. The study employs a quantitative descriptive approach with a randomized pretest-posttest design. The sample includes students involved in volleyball extracurricular activities, divided into two groups: 10 participants in the treatment group and 10 in the control group. Participants in the treatment group received 1000 mg of Moringa leaf powder capsules daily after engaging in eccentric exercises. Capsules were administered one hour and 24 hours post-exercise. Muscle pain was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) one hour before the capsule administration and again 48 hours after the exercise. Results indicated that the treatment group experienced a significant reduction in muscle pain 48 hours post-exercise (mean score: 6 ± 0.816) compared to the control group (mean score: 7.5 ± 0.788), with a p-value of 0.00 (p<0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze injury risk management practices among amateur badminton athletes by exploring the perspectives of both coaches and athletes in the Grati Badminton Community, Pasuruan Regency. The research seeks to identify key factors influencing injury prevention, response, and recovery processes within community-level sports education. The study incorporates insights from a small circle of individuals who are actively engaged in the community’s training routine, providing a focused and in-depth view of how injury risks are recognized and handled. Data were collected using observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation techniques, then analyzed through thematic analysis to capture in-depth insights regarding knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to injury risk management. Findings indicate that injury risk management in the community remains largely reactive, with preventive strategies yet to be systematically implemented. Coaches tend to rely on personal experience rather than evidence-based guidelines, while athletes exhibit limited awareness of injury prevention and rehabilitation principles. The absence of standardized operating procedures (SOPs), inadequate medical support, and minimal educational interventions further exacerbate the problem. This study provides a valuable empirical perspective on how grassroots-level badminton communities in rural Indonesia manage injury risks. It highlights the importance of structured educational programs and collaborative efforts between coaches, athletes, and supporting institutions to create safer and more sustainable training environments for amateur athletes.

Abstract

Background: Taekwondo is a physical contact sport requiring quick reactions and explosive movements such as kicking, which depend heavily on hamstring muscle strength to maintain performance and reduce injury risk. Objectives: This study aims to profile the eccentric hamstring strength and asymmetry in sub-elite female taekwondo athletes in East Java. Methods: This was a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 22 female athletes with regional competition experience and no lower limb injuries were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the NordBord by Vald Performance, a reliable tool for measuring eccentric hamstring strength and asymmetry. Descriptive statistics analyzed the mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and strength percentage relative to normative values. Results: The athletes had an average age of 18.86±2.05 years, body mass of 57.45±8.90 kg, height of 160.68±6.72 cm, and BMI of24.33 ±2.51. Eccentric hamstring strength was 89.6% in the left leg, 85% in the right leg, and 87.2% overall, indicating the need for improvement. Conclusions: The eccentric hamstring strength of both legs needs to be increased by approximately 12.8% while maintaining the current low asymmetry level to support muscle balance. Targeted hamstring strengthening exercises are recommended to enhance performance and reduce injury risk. This study is limited to female athletes; further research should include broader populations and variables.
