The most Gunungkidul is a region that embraces the culture of Java and has a high number of domestic violence. Program Laki-Laki Peduli of Rifka Annisa Women Crises Center comes to Gunungkidul to encourage husbands in Gunungkidul to change their character identity to fit the positive masculinity. That means there is a conflict between the new men concepts with the concept that has been owned by them before (traditional concept of gender). This study will discuss that phenomenon. Through the qualitative method and phenomenological approach, this study involved two subjects who are alumni of Program Laki-Laki Peduli. This study aims to understand the psychological meaning of the subjects' gender role after experiencing the clash of two different gender role concepts. The data were collected through semi-structured interview with the subjects and data triangulation (subject and time) with the wives of the subjects. The results of this study showed that gender role of new men concept can emerge if subjects face the circumstances "forced". Circumstances forced in this context are situations of socio-economic demands and personal motivations to cope with such situations.

Based on a one year qualitative study, this paper examines the migratory aspirations and experiences of non-Chinese young people in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is based on two main questions of migration in the context of young people’s education to work transition: 1) How do young people in provincial cities perceive processes of migration? 2) What is the role of intergenerational relations in realizing these aspirations? Living in a provincial city in Indonesia, many of these youth aspire to migrate to larger cities on the Java Island for tertiary education. It is found that apart from the idea that universities in Java are of better quality and diplomas from education institutions in Java provide leverage in the labour market, migrating to Java is also about growing up. Migrating is often linked to ideal notions of adulthood, indicated by independence. Yet, in reality, these aspirations often have to compete with parental expectations of family care and of building interdependent relationships with the family (rather than becoming independent). Thus young people are often constrained by their families in realizing their dreams to seek education in Java and even when they obtain permission to leave, they are expected to come back to Pontianak. This paper will describe the various strategies young people employ to realize their dreams of obtaining education in Java, the decisions made by those who fail to do so, and the choices made by migrants after finishing their education in Java. It will contribute to a body of knowledge on young people’s education to work transitions and how inter-generational dynamics play out in that process.

Previous research conducted by the same authors found that personal attributes (benevolence, integrity, competence) and the relational attributes (closeness, support, and reciprocity) influence trust and trustworthiness. This paper aimed to test the proposed trust model on a new dataset while also testing for gender and regional differences. This research involved a collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada as a representative from Yogyakarta and Universitas Negeri Makassar as a representative from Makassar. There were 420 students that participated in this study; 157 (37.4%) men and 263 (62.6%) women. Regression analyses indicated that 42% of trust was formed by personal and relational attributes. Contrary to expectations, there were no differences in trust (p> 0.05) between females and males. However, there was a significant difference in trustworthiness (p0.05). This study provides an understanding on the importance of trust and trustworthiness in efforts to maintain pluralism, as a form of citizenship identity.

Infidelity has been one of the leading causes of marital divorce for couples in many countries, including Indonesia. For couples surviving infidelity in marriage, some aspects of the marital relationship such as trust and trustworthiness can be affected. Rebuilding trust and trustworthiness after the disclosure of infidelity can be one of the most important factors in recovering the quality of marital relationship. This research adopted qualitative research method with phenomenological approach to explore the dynamics of rebuilding trust and trustworthiness in marital relationship post infidelity disclosure. The study found that the victim of infidelity rebuilt their trust toward the perpetrator in five aspects. Three of these were personal aspects, including risk identification and prevention, predictability, and belief; and two were relational aspects, including intimacy and reciprocity. Whereas the perpetrators of infidelity rebuilt their trustworthiness by showing four aspects: commitment, openness and honesty, benevolence, and religiosity. Those aspects provided implications in recovery of marital relationship post infidelity disclosure.

Various efforts have been carried out to protect oneself and one’s group from the threat of COVID-19. In reality, it is possible that there are different mechanisms to protect the group. Ingroup favoritism is likely to occur, even in times of pandemic. This study aims to explore the differences in protective behaviors (toward ingroups vs. outgroups) and investigate the differentiating factors leading to protective behaviors. Through an online survey, a total of 593 respondents filled out a questionnaire that measures ingroup and outgroup protection, self-protection, and collective coping. The results of the data analysis show the tendency for ingroup favoritism in efforts to protect the group. Further analysis shows that efforts to protect the ingroup are influenced by collective coping and self-protection, while efforts to protect the outgroup are only influenced by collective coping. These findings strengthen the perspective that collectivity is the basis for protection from COVID-19 in general, while individual factors lead to greater ingroup protection.

The COVID-19 pandemic began as a health problem which has also mutated into an economic, social, and psychological problem. Millions of victims required intensive care and many died. Furthermore, the pandemic has almost paralyzed the economy, impacted social life, and increased the number of people experiencing various psychological problems. Various efforts to overcome those problems have been implemented. However, optimism, a significant psychological dimension of coping, is arguably required to ensure that these efforts do not diminish. This study develops a contextual model of optimism by identifying collective coping and closeness to God as variables that have a direct impact on optimism. Meanwhile, individual preventive efforts are located as an antecedent to collective coping, but do not directly impact optimism. Data for the study were collected through online surveys during the pandemic with 544 respondents. The results of the data analyses showed that they fit the theoretical model developed. Individual preventive efforts influences optimism through collective coping. Furthermore, collective coping and closeness to God have direct effects on the emergence of optimism. This optimism model indicates the importance of collective efforts as a part of the drive to end the pandemic. Individuals also need spiritual strength to remain optimistic. Both must be present, in parallel with individual preventive efforts, as is often suggested by policymakers.

Solidarity is a theme frequently discussed to explain social phenomena linked to social concerns and cohesion. It is also a commonly discussed topic in news and research works, especially during crises. Studies about solidarity have elaborated on forms of solidarity action, but only a few discuss the process of solidarity and the dynamics of intragroup relationships. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the patterns and roles of intragroup relationships in the solidarity actions of youth organizations, using a qualitative case study approach. The study involved seven young people (4 men, 3 women) from the Kanal Muda Community, with the consideration of the representativeness of the group’s elements. The data analysis method employed was thematic analysis, considering Fiske’s lens in building the logic of the findings in social relationships. This study found that the communal sharing relationship is the main foundation of solidarity action and enables equal relationships and cooperation within the community. This study attempts to contribute to the literature on the intragroup relationship and its relevance in solidarity action. Communal sharing can also influence the formation of values, norms, working methods, and decision-making in the group.

Abstract. Cooperation in the matrilineal Minang ethnic group is considered an essential element of their kinship system, especially cooperation with kins from the mother's side. With the increasing number of Minang women migrating to get a better education, this study aims to understand how cooperation is carried out by Minang migrant women and the realized form of cooperation. In-depth interviews were conducted with five Minang migrant women in Yogyakarta, as part of exploratory qualitative research, attempting to describe the migrant experience's participants. We found that the values taught are more inclined towards positive interdependence and effective action through coding analysis. Based on these positive idealizations, cooperation was generally achieved by mutual help (tolong-menolong) through equality matching, where there was a reciprocal relationship to achieve balance, which tends to occur at the level of the inter-group relations. We also found that cooperation tends to happen within the mother's family, parallel to the ideal of the Minang kinship system. Keywords: cooperation; migration; Minang; relation; women.
