Abstract

Trust is an important aspect in human relationship. According to previous research trust is influenced by 2 main attributes: personal (benevolence, integrity, and competence) and relational (support, closeness, and reciprocity) attribute. The study aimed to find a preliminary model to explain the association of personal and relational attributes in adolescent friendship. Two hundred and twenty participants (male=44.09% and female=55.91%) participated in the study. A survey method was used to collect the data. The design of this study was correlational design. Results from enter method in regression analysis show that six factors of personal and relational attributes influence trust at 44.5%. However, closeness had no significant influence on trust, so closeness was not included in the next analysis, the sequential analysis. The result shows that the relational attribute has higher influence on trust than personal attribute. Support and reciprocity factors which belong to relational attribute, has a higher contribution to trust in adolescent friendship than benevolence, integrity and competence – the latter three factors belonging to the personal attribute. Therefore building trust in friendship requires an emphasis on relational attributes of trust, especially that of support and reciprocity factors.

Abstract

Abstract

Prior qualitative research by Faturochman and Minza (2014) on trust in Indonesia found that trust is influenced by relational attributes, including closeness, support, and reciprocity. This study aims to examine whether the findings of the previous research can be applied in specific forms of relationships, e.g. friendship. The survey method is used in this study, involving 97 males and 123 (N = 220) females who completed a scale related to the variables studied. We found that support and reciprocity significantly predicted the score of trust. However, closeness did not. It was also found that the effect of support is higher than reciprocity. Based on the research, we created the regression model with the contribution of support to the trust 37.8%, then reciprocity addition which was analyzed together with support gave a total contribution to the trust 41.5%. The implication of this study is further discussed.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has given an impact on various aspects of human life forcing humans to adapt to the existing condition. This study aimed to explore the adaptation process toward the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The research method applied was quantitative-descriptive. A total of 544 Indonesian citizens filled out an online social perception toward risk and spread of COVID-19 scale through a google form. The results focused on the adaptive response of the community consisting of both perceptions and behaviors. This study found that the adaptation of the society to deal with COVID-19 did not only occur at the individual level but also at the collective level. At the individual level, there were two kinds of psychological adaptation found namely active and passive. At the collective level, this study suggested that collective coping is an important form of social-psychological adaptation in which solidarity is the essence of the process.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the fitness of a model that proposes the relationship between the quality of student-teacher interaction as predictors of academic achievement and perceived learning with emotional engagement as a mediator. Lecture-student interactions as the exogenous variable were measured with the Lecturer-student Interaction (LSI) questionnaire that contains four aspects: autonomy support, emotional support, academic support, and the framework used to measure the quality of lecturer-student interaction. The emotional involvements of students during lectures as the endogenous variable are the emotions (pleasure, boredom, despair, anger, hope, anxiety) that are often expressed in the lecture process. Emotional engagement is considered as the mediator variable. Perceived learning as the dependent variable is related to the ability of lecturers to arouse students' curiosity about the lecture material. The second dependent variable is academic achievement which is determined by the cumulative index report (GPA) from the previous semester. 270 students from many universities in Indonesia filled out the questionnaire. The conceptual model proposed in this study is incompatible with empirical data in the field. In the first model, lecturer-student interaction influences perceived learning mediated by emotional engagement because lecturer-student interaction will only significantly influence perceived learning through emotional engagement (full mediation). Directly and through mediation of emotional involvement, the influence of lecturer-student interaction variables is not significant on academic achievement. In the modified model, lecturer-student interaction influences perceived learning with emotional engagement and also significantly influences perceived learning without emotional involvement variables (partial mediation). The dynamics of the lecturer-student interaction relationship, emotional engagement, and academic achievement in this modified model remain the same as the first model.

Abstract

The development of national identity in a highly multicultural nation begins by identifying oneself to a particular ethnic group and realizing that multiculturalism is the bridge between both identities. This research aims to discover the link between national identity, ethnic identity, and multiculturalism in Indonesia, specifically for Javanese. This study utilized three measurement scales: (1) National Identity Scale to measure national identity; (2) Ethnic Identity Scale to measure the sense of belongingness to the Javanese ethnicity; and (3) Universal Diverse Orientation (UDO), to measure multiculturalism. This study's participants consist of 441 college students in Yogyakarta (male = 115; female = 326), ranging from 17 to 21. The regression analysis result shows that the mediation model supports this research hypothesis, namely that multiculturalism mediates the relationship between ethnic identity and national identity. Therefore, the current finding generates a new conception regarding the related theme.
