Abstract

Abstract

This research explores the transformation of Islamic education in the digital era within the context of classical pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in Mandailing Natal—namely Ma'had Darul Ikhlas, Raihanul Jannah, and Abinnur al-Islami—with a focus on the vision of “Santri 5.0.” Employing a multisite qualitative approach, the study reveals that traditional methods such as sorogan and bandongan remain dominant. However, 70-80% of santri (students) use mobile phones primarily for non-academic content, indicating cracks in the fortress of tradition. Social media emerges as a double-edged sword: 65% of santri utilize it for informal da'wah (Islamic outreach), while 40% are exposed to secular and radical narratives due to limited digital literacy. Although santri express a desire for innovation (50-60%), static curricula and institutional resistance to technology hinder integration, leaving the potential of “Santri 5.0” unfulfilled. This study concludes that without pedagogical adaptation, pesantren risk losing relevance in the global era, underscoring the urgency of developing Islamic education that is responsive to digital challenges while preserving local identity.

Abstract

The growing urgency of gender equality issues in Islam, which often conflict with textual interpretations of classical fiqh texts such as Fath al-Muin and I’anah al-Thalibin. Pesantrens, as traditional Islamic educational institutions, have the potential to become spaces for reinterpreting these texts in response to contemporary challenges. This study aims to explore how Pesantren Ma’had Darul Ikhlas in Mandailing Natal reinterprets classical fiqh by integrating local values, particularly the matrilineal culture that places women in a central role. The research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic techniques and textual analysis, involving participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the reinterpretation of classical fiqh is carried out through negotiations between the pesantren’s scholarly traditions, local culture, and modern social realities. For instance, the principle of justice in QS An-Nisa: 7 is used to support more inclusive inheritance practices for women, while the concept of qiwamah is understood as shared responsibility rather than male dominance. However, this reinterpretation still faces resistance from conservative groups and is hindered by the scarcity of progressive literature. The contribution of this research lies in its effort to enrich the discourse on the reinterpretation of fiqh in Islam by highlighting the flexibility of pesantrens in addressing modern challenges. Practically, these findings can serve as a reference for other pesantrens to open discussions on gender equality without abandoning their scholarly traditions.

Abstract

This paper presents the development and application of a simulator utilizing the Landauer"“Büttiker formalism to model quantum ballistic transport in double-gate (DG) metal-oxide-semiconductor field-efffect transistors (MOSFETs), focusing on temperature variations from 0.9 K to 300 K. The simulator employs advanced modelling techniques, including the exponential decay model, quantum interference model, and the Wentzel"“Krames"“Brillouin (WKB) approximation for transmission probability. Additionally, it incorporates the Landauer"“Büttiker approach for current calculation and the gradual channel approximation (GCA) model for device operation. By leveraging these techniques, the simulator provides comprehensive insights into the quantum mechanical effects that influence device performance under various thermal conditions. This research underscores the critical role of temperature variations in the design and optimization of DG MOSFETs, emphasizing the necessity of effective thermal management and a thorough understanding of quantum effects to enhance the performance and reliability of nanoscale transistor technologies. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating temperature-dependent quantum mechanical considerations in advancing future nanoelectronic devices.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential of Pesantren Darussalam Parmeraan, North Sumatra, to foster disaster resilience by integrating Sendai Framework’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) principles into its Islamic education curriculum. Situated in a forested area near a river, the pesantren faces flood and landslide risks. Employing a qualitative approach with case study, data were sourced from curriculum documents (akhlak, fiqh, tafsir), santri guidelines, activity records (gotong royong, tree planting, water management), and semi-structured interviews with the kiai, ustaz, and santri. Data were collected through document reviews and interviews, analyzed following Miles and Huberman (1994) via data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to identify DRR elements. Findings reveal traces of DRR in local practices and Islamic values (amanah, tawakkal, solidarity), aligning with Sendai’s risk understanding, governance, resilience investment, and preparedness. However, gaps such as the absence of evacuation training, fragmented risk knowledge, and limited external collaboration hinder effectiveness. Proposed modules—“Environmental Akhlak,” “Disaster Fiqh,” and ikhtiar-based simulations—integrate disaster science with spirituality, strengthening isolated community resilience. This study offers a faith-based DRR model, contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4, 13) and global literature.

Abstract

Edible Bird's nest (EBN) is a highly valuable food product due to its rich nutritional content and potential health benefits. In this study, we investigated the morphology and diameter of electrospun EBN/PVP nanofibers by exploring different solution and electrospinning parameters. Smooth, homogeneous, and defect-free nanofibers were obtained using EBN:PVP ratios ranging from 10:90 to 60:40. Increasing the concentration of EBN in the solution resulted in fibers with larger diameters. The fiber diameter was found to decrease with increasing voltage of the electrospinning process. In addition, increasing the needle-to-collector distance resulted in fibers with smaller diameters. The FTIR spectrum of EBN/PVP showed a combination of the spectral characteristics of both components. The EBN/PVP nanofiber blend showed improved thermal stability, probably due to the interaction between EBN and PVP, which strengthened the blend structure. EBN/PVP nanofibers with dominant EBN content can be very useful as a matrix to protect bioactive ingredients from environmental degradation while allowing controlled release.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the potential of social media as an instrument for Islamic moral education in Indonesia, a context with 167 million internet users and 77% internet penetration in 2023, to transcend the traditional role of mosques. Employing a qualitative methodology through a multiple case study design, data were collected via semi-structured interviews with 30 informants aged 15–35 years in North Sumatra, selected through purposive sampling, alongside content analysis of 150 posts on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, validated using source triangulation. The findings reveal that digital formats such as short videos (averaging 50,000 views), infographics (32,000 views), and Islamic challenges (#challengeislami, 450 posts) are effective in internalizing moral values, supported by interactivity and wide reach. However, religious hoaxes (12% of the sample) and secular distractions pose challenges to the sustainability of impact. The study proposes a model based on the synthesis of Al-Ghazali’s and Bandura’s theories, emphasizing interactive and personalized content, with implications for digital literacy training for educators and content regulation

Abstract

This research explores the implications of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the post-human era, focusing on the transformation of spirituality and pedagogical approaches. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and digital content analysis involving 15 students, 10 PAI teachers, and 5 IT teachers from three Islamic high schools in North Sumatra. The findings indicate that AI enhances access to religious knowledge and stimulates critical reflection, but also creates emotional distance, spiritual narrative fragmentation, and theological oversimplification. Students experience religious hybridity, integrating technological logic with Islamic values, while teachers are polarized between adaptation and resistance. Ontologically, AI emerges as a new mediator in humanity's relationship with the transcendent, challenging the authenticity of spirituality. Pedagogically, AI offers the potential for modern relevance but demands curriculum revisions and teacher training. This study concludes that post-human PAI can enrich transformative spirituality through a synthesis of tradition and innovation, provided it is supported by contextually designed technology and theological collaboration, recommending a balanced learning approach for the future of PAI in the AI era
