Abstract

Linear Body Size Of East Local Male Pig On Extensively Cultivated. A study has been conducted with the aim of identifying the linier body size studies timor local male pigs reared extensively.  This research has been started since March to December 2011. The tools used are tape meter, meter sticks, and scales. Materials used are locally timor male pigs raised extensively with a lifespan of 2 to 3.9 months, from 4 to 5.9 months, and 6 to 7.9 months and the water. Research variables are body temperature and linear body size. The results showed that body temperature 38-390C on average 38.830C and Linear body size on average: Age range 2 to 3.9 months; body length 33.25 cm shoulder height 29.50 cm 36.83 cm chest circumference; length fur 2.82 cm diameter below the head / snout 3.42 cm and the head of the top 7,35 cm neck diameter 7.83 cm; front leg length 24.33 cm and 27.17 cm rear leg.Age range 4 to 5.9 months; body length 38.08 cm shoulder height 34.67 cm chest circumference 46 cm; length fur 3.82; diameter below the head / snout 5.27 cm and 17.40 cm above the head ; neck diameter 18.02 cm 29.90 cm long front legs and hind feet 35.42 inches. Age range 6 to 7.9 months; body length 46.17 cm shoulder height 50.83 cm 65.50 cm chest circumference; long hair 5.3 cm diameter below the head / snout 9.22 cm and the head of 23 cm neck diameter 26.07 cm 36.50 cm long front legs and hind feet 41.58 inches; and the appearance of coarse hairs, especially along the back.Key words :  Linear Body Size, Timor Local Male Pig, Extensively

Abstract

This research was aimed to evaluate the effect of  level of Rhyzopus oligosporus and fermentation time on  crude protein and tannin   of  tamarind seed. This experiment was conducted in 2 treatment factors with 2 replication. The first factor was various level of  Rhyzopus oligosporus e.i. 1,2,3 kg/kg, and the second factor was time of fermentation e.i. 1,2,3, days. The results showed that there was no significantly effects among treatments on crude protein, but significant effect (P<0.05) on tannin by level of Rhyzopus oligosporus treatment, and time of fermentation, even those there was no interaction between each treatment. Tannin content decreased in line with increasing level of Rhyzopus oligosporus and time of fermentation. In conclusion, the best treatment was 3 g/kg  level of Rhyzopus oligosporus   with 3 days fermentation length.Key words:     Rhyzopus oligosphorus, Fermentation time, tamarind seed, crude protein, Tannin

Abstract

Use of Wafer Legume as Goats Feeds Alternative in Semi Arid Area. The experiment was conducted at Goats house Laboratory of Production and Reproduction, Kupang State Agriculture Polytechnic, from Mei to July 2006. This research aimed to know the advantage of wafer legume used for goat’s feed, especially feed intake, digestion, body weigh gain, rumen concentration of NH3 and VFA. The experiment used completely randomized design. Nine goats were randomly divided into 3 groups to receive three treatments. The treatments were R0 (kume grass hay), R1( R0 + wafer -1 of 1,5% body weight gain, R2 ( R0 + wafer-2 of 1,5% body weight gain. Parameters measured were nutrient intake, nutrient digestion, body weight gain, rumen concentration of NH3 and VFA. The data was analysed by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The result indicated that wafer legume did not significantly affected to organic matter intake and body weight gain, while the significant effect was found in digestion, rumen concentration of NH3 and VFA. It Could be concluded that wafer legume improve digestion, rumen concentration of NH3 and VFA of goats. Keywords: Wafer, Legume, Goats, Body weight gain

Abstract

Banana peel is a potential alternative feed source, but its use is limited by its tannin content. Tannins bind proteins, and minerals and reduce protein digestibility. The experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of palmyra sugar liquid (PSL) on tannin, calcium, and phosphorus levels of banana peel silage. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were GA0: banana peel without PSL, GA2: banana peel + 2% PSL, GA4: banana peel + 4% PSL, and GA6: banana peel + 6% PSL. A mixture of banana peels and PSL was put into a plastic jar while compacted. Then tightly closed and fermented for 21 days. Variables observed were the tannin, calcium, and phosphorus content of banana peel silage. The results showed that the PSL level had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the tannin, calcium, and phosphorus content of kepok banana peel silage. The use of 4% water sugar can reduce tannin levels and has the highest levels of calcium and phosphorus of kepok banana peel silage.Key Words:  Banana peel, Calcium, Fermentation, Phosphorus, Tannin
