Abstract

Sanggar Bimbingan Permai Penang Malaysia is a nonformal institution that teaches Arabic to their students who are the children of Indonesian migrants. Same with other educational institutions, Arabic learning at Sanggar Bimbingan is not free from various problems. Therefore, this research aims to examine both linguistic and nonlinguistic issues in the teaching of Arabic at Sanggar Bimbingan Permai Penang, Malaysia. This research is a case study with a qualitative approach. The research respondents include the principal, teachers, students in grades III, V, and VI, and parents of students. Data was collected through participant observation and interviews. Observations were conducted for 28 days by directly teaching 24 students in three classes, with Arabic classes held three times a week. Interviews were conducted with one principal, three teachers, and two students. Data was analyzed using the Miles & Huberman technique, which involves data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research found linguistic problems including the complexity of Arabic grammar, the vastness of vocabulary, and differences between Arabic and the students’ native languages. Non-linguistic challenges encompass student motivation, environmental support, availability of study time, teaching quality, and inadequate facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

To realize the effective learning of reading skills, of course, it takesmedia or good learning materials. That way, learning of reading skills willnot feel boring for teachers or students. One of the alternatives that can beused in learning of reading skills is the stories in the Qur’an that are full ofeducational values. This research aims to find alternative learning of readingskills with stories in the Qur’an. This research is a type of library research. The results of this study show that with perfection and privilege in terms oflanguage that the Qur’an has, allows everyone to delve into this especially inArabic learning, especially reading skills. This can be applied in the learningof reading skills by practicing reading (converting the symbol of writing intosound) and understand what is in the reading with the stories in the Qur’an.Both aspects are very important in reading skills. Among the stories in theQur’an that can be used as an alternative in the learning of reading skills isthe story of the patience of the prophet ‘Ayyub in surah Al-Anbiya’ verses83-84, the story of the obedience of the prophet Ibrahim and the prophetIshmael in surah As-Shaffat verses 100-111, the story of the prophet Musawho helped two women drink his cattle in surah Al-Qashash verses 21-24 andthe story of Qarun who was so arrogant that the earth was swallowed upin surah Al-Qashash verses 76-86. Other stories contained in the Qur’an canalso still be used as the alternative learning of reading skills while sticking tothe goal of learning to be achieved.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media, particularly Instagram, has created new spaces for the practice of teaching and learning Arabic language and literature beyond formal educational institutions. Previous studies have extensively examined Arabic language educational content on Instagram; however, research focusing specifically on Arabic literary content remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to map the content materials and analyze the strategies for presenting Arabic literary learning content on the Instagram account @puisi_arab. It seeks to address this research gap while encouraging scholars and practitioners of Arabic literature to contribute to enriching the presentation of literary content through Instagram. The analysis focuses on learning materials presented and content presentation strategies. This study adopts a qualitative content analysis approach, with data derived from 35 posts on the @puisi_arab account selected through systematic sampling techniques. The findings indicate that the account presents a wide range of Arabic literary learning materials, including classical poetry, modern poetry, literary aphorisms (ḥikam), qaṣīdah, poetry, prose, and the history of Arabic literature. The content presentation strategy utilizes a combination of literary texts, illustrative visuals, background music, and interpretive narration in captions, with a dominant use of the single-image format that displays excerpts of poetry and prose accompanied by explanatory captions. These findings suggest that social media can function as an alternative space for the dissemination and appreciation of Arabic literature in the digital era, while also offering opportunities for the development of microlearning-based literary instruction models.
