Abstract

Dental carries is a major oral health problem in most countries, affecting majority of schoolchildren. Children in the 6 – 12 year age can be at great risk from dental carries. This could be attributed to poor knowledge and awareness towards oral health.The study was done to find out the correlation between school children level of knowledge regarding prevention and occurrence of dental carries at Payung Sekaki Pekanbaru Public Health Center. A crosssectional correlation research design was used for this study. The subjects consisted of 78 schoolchildren who were selected using purposive sampling method. Structured questionnaire and observation sheet that has been tested for validity were used to collect the data. The results showed that 97.4% of the schoolchildren (76 respondents) had good knowledge regarding the prevention of dental carries, while 60 respondents (76.9%) had the incidence of dental carries. Statistical analysis with Chi-Square test indicated that there was no correlation between school-age knowledge about the prevention of dental carries and the occurrence of dental carries with a p value of 1,000 (> 0.05). Hence, this study may recommend to health workers to promote dental health programs in schools.   Keywords: dental carries, knowledge, prevention, school age

Abstract

 Autism was the interference which influence in their daily life. The austims sufferance in Indonesia has increase every  single years. A mother has an important role in the growth of the children. This research has a purpose to know the  identification the level of mother knowledge about casein free and gluten free diet to the autism child with quantitative  research with descriptive research design. The sample of research 58 people respondent which get by the inclusion  criteria from some school on SLB Pekanbaru City with using consecutive sampling technique. The measuring technique  is using multiple choice questions to know the mother knowledge about casein free and gluten free diet. The data  analysis which using descriptive. The result of this research shows that from 58 respondent, there are 28 respondent  (48,3%) have a good knowledge which 30 respondent (51,7%) have a less knowledge. This research is recommended to  the mother to be increase  their knowledge about casein free and gluten free diet with the right way to the children.Keywords: Autism, casein free, gluten free, knowledge, mother

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between parenting style with frequency and intensity of temper tantrum behavior in toddler’s. The design of this research is analytic with the type of cross sectional studies. The study was conducted on 84 respondents in the West Sidomulyo Urban Village, Tampan Districts, Pekanbaru using cluster sampling. Measuring instrument was used a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The analysis was used univariate and bivariate analysis by pearson chi-square test. The results showed that there is a relationship between parenting style with frequency and intensity temper tantrum behavior in toddler’s (p value 0.044). The results of this study recommends that health workers especially nurses should do health education about the child’s development toddler (1-3 year’s), particularly on emotional development, with expectation that the parent can apply appropriate parenting in educating children, so the children can grow as independent and responsible generation. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that occurs when the body cannot produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use insulin. Symptoms of DM are grouped into two types, namely type I DM and type II DM, type I DM is insulin dependent while type II DM is caused by a combination of insulin resistance in the body. DM complications can cause peripheral neuropathy, which is one of the microvascular complications of DM which can cause damage to autonomic, sensory and motor nerve function. This study aims to describe the characteristics of microvascular complications of peripheral neuropathy in DM patients in the Rejosari Public Health Center, Pekanbaru. The research design was descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were 30 respondents using purposive sampling technique. The measuring instrument used was the peripheral neuropathy microvascular observation sheet. The analysis used is descriptive. The results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate peripheral neuropathy damage as many as 26 respondents (86.7%). The majority of respondents experienced multiple autonomic damage as many as 30 respondents (100.0%) on the sensory nerve examination, it was found that the majority of respondents felt no sensation with 17 respondents (56.7%) and the results of motor nerve examination the majority of respondents experienced a decrease in muscle strength by 19 respondents (63.3%). This study suggests that screening and counseling at the health center regarding microvascular neuropathy complications and how to treat complications of peripheral neuropathy in type II DM patients is very important.Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, microvascular complications, neuropathy

Abstract

This study’s aims to determined the correlation of mother’s knowledge about children nutrition and nutritional status of 1-3 years old children. This study used a descriptive correlative design with cross sectional approach undertaken mother’s of children aged 1-3 years in the area of Community Health Center of Rejosari, Tenayan Raya Sail district Pekanbaru. The total samples were 98 respondent, taken using a cluster sampling technique by consideret the inclusion criteria. Measuring instrument used was a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability along with scales. The analysis used univariate and bivariate by using pearson chi-square. The results showed a correlation between mother’s knowledge about children nutrition and nutritional status of 1-3 years old children (p value 0.004 < α 0.05). This study recommends to every health care proffesional to increases the mother’s  knowledge about nutrition so they could improved nutritional status of their children. Abstract

An early warning score for children like PEWS (pediatric early warning score) has an ability to identify clinical deterioration of children and intervension can be taken before children condition become worst. The rapid response like increasing monitoring of children or transferring to intensive care unit. The aim of this research was to described PEWS of each transferring method for children in emergency department. This research used 85 respondents who admitted to the hospital in emergency department during 14 March – 14 June 2014. The respondents were taken by consecutive sampling method where children 0 – 18 years old evaluated by PEWS and then followed where the children being transferred based on doctor advice. After that the result presented by simple frequency distribution. The analysis found that children who adviced to went home have score ≤ 2, children who have score 3, 4, 5 transferred to inpatient ward and children who have score ≥ 6 transferred to NICU/PICU. This research recommended for nurses especially nurses at emergency department in a hospital to use PEWS to anticipate clinical deterioration of children in emergency department. Abstract

Leukemia known as blood cancer, is one type of malignancy of blood cells derived from bone marrow and can occur inchildren. This study aimed to identify the relationship of family support with anxiety level of leukemia children due tochemotherapy. This research is a quantitative research with descriptive correlation design and cross sectionalapproach. The sample of this research is 30 respondents taken based on inclusion criteria usingpurposive samplingtechnique. The measuring tool used were questionnaires for family support variable and assessment tool that has beenstandard Hamilton Anxiety anxiety (HARS-A) for anxiety level. The results of this study found that 16 respondents(53.3%) had positive support and there were 18 respondents (60%) who had anxiety level in facing chemotherapy. Theresult of statistical test using Chi Square obtained p value (0,654) >alpha (0,05), so it can be concluded there is norelation between family support with anxiety level of leukemia children due to chemotherapy. Based on the results ofthis study is expected that the family support can reduce the level of anxiety in children who are on leukemiachemotheraphy.Keywords: anxiety level, family support, HARS-A, leukemia

Abstract

Leukemia is a blood disorder, as result of the proliferation of immature cell growth and malignant leukocytes. Leukemia are often accompanied by the presence of excessive amounts of leukocytes. Patients also had to do chemotherapy to prevent the spread of cancer cells. Important role in the treatment of leukemia can not be separated from the role of a mother. This qualitative research design used a descriptive phenomenological method, that aims to explored maternal experience in treating child with leukemia. The results of this research found four themes: 1) the first response, 2) attitude during treatment 3) support obtained, 4) the impact of the disease. The results of this study are expected to provide information to health care practitioners, especially nurses in pediatric room to given information that  increased knowledge and to encourage children and their families Key words: leukemia, caring for children, mothers experience

Abstract

Neonates are newborns up to 4 weeks of age (0-28 days). The neonatal period is the period most susceptible to infection because the immunity of the neonate is still immature. At this time neonates need to be given breast milk (colostrum) which is high in antibodies, antiinfective and immunoglobulins to maintain their health, but prelacteal feeding can inhibit colostrum breastfeeding in neonates, this can increase the risk of infectious diseases such as ARI, fever and diarrhea. This study aimed to determine the relationship of prelacteal feeding to the incidence of pain in neonates. This study uses a research design description of correlation with aapproach retrospective and a sample of 45 neonates. The measuring instrument used is a questionnaire. The analysis used is univariate analysis to determine the frequency distribution and bivariate using the alternative Fisher Exact Test. The results of the study found that of 23 people (51.1%) respondents who were given prelacteal food, 5 (21.7%) of them experienced pain and obtained a p value of 0.049 with α 0.05 (p value <α) so that it can be concluded that there was a significant relationship between prelacteal feeding on the incidence of pain in the neonate. The results of this study can be a motivation for mothers who have a neonate to give exclusive breastfeeding and avoid prelacteal feeding, and to health workers, especially nurses at the health center to promote the exclusive breastfeeding of neonates.Keywords : Incidence of illness, neonates, prelacteal

Abstract

The internet can have a negative effect to students if it is used excessively, so that it can affect on student’s academic achievement. The purpose of this research was to determine the relation between internet usage and the concentration of learning and achievements on Nursing Students at the University of Riau Faculty of Nursing. This research used a cross sectional approach with 218 samples taken using stratified random sampling techniques. The data in this research consisted of primary data was collected by questionnaires, and secondary data was obtained from the students’ Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Data analysis used chi square test. The results showed that there was a relation between the duration of internet usage and the concentration of learning on Nursing Student at the University of Riau Faculty of Nursing students with p value 0.011 <α (0.05), there was a relation between the duration of internet usage and student achievement with p value 0.011 <α (0.05 ), and there was a relation between the application used in the internet use of the Faculty of Nursing in Riau University with p value 0,000 <α (0,05), there is a relationship between the application used in internet use and learning achievement in nursing students at Riau University with p value 0,013 <α (0.05), there was a relation between the devices are used with the concentration of learning in the University of Riau Nursing Faculty students with p value 0,000 <α (0,05), and there is a relationship between the devices are used with learning achievement on Nursing Students at the University of Riau Nursing Faculty with p value 0,000 <α ( 0.05). Based on these results, researcher suggest that educational institutions have to pay more attention to the use of internet in learning activity.   Keywords:Internet Usage , Learning Achievement,  Learning Concentration
