Abstract

Coastal areas and small islands in the middle of the high seas are areas that are very poor in sources of clean water, so that problems arise in fulfilling the need for clean water. Water resources in the area are generally of poor quality, for example the groundwater is brackish or salty. The quality of the water is very poor because it contains very high levels of salt and organic matter. The area of Bongo Village, Batudaa Pantai District, Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province is a coastal area that still needs a supply of clean water. The local community's water needs come from the mountains, and some depend on injection wells to provide clean water, however, the water from these injection wells still tastes salty or contains salt and the provision of these wells is not sufficient for all the houses in Bongo village. To achieve the goals of SDGs (clean water and sanitation) in the environmental sector by ensuring that the community achieves universal access to clean water and sanitation, then to improve environmental quality and health self-sufficiency, students solve existing problems by empowering Bongo Village Communities through Clean Water Management Innovations and Environmentally Friendly Sanitation for Achieving SDGs Goals.

Abstract

The scientific community has established a clear link between the built environment and various environmental problems. Various strategies have been implemented to mitigate the negative impacts of buildings and to address broader environmental challenges. One such strategy is the adoption of sustainable building practices. Among the factors contributing to the environmental impacts of buildings, efforts to achieve thermal comfort play significant role. Particularly due to the energy consumption involved. At the same time, thermal comfort is also a critical factor influencing human productivity, including academic performance. Comfortable learning environments are known to enhance students’ learning outcomes. This research presents a case analysis conducted at State Elementary School 91 Sipatana, Gorontalo City, Indonesia. Measurements were carried out on December 24, 2022, from 06.00 to 18.00. Room temperature was recorded using an Elitech GSP-6 data logger, and further simulations were carried out using Ladybugs and Honeybees. The purpose of this study is to evaluate building performance in achieving thermal comfort by considering solar radiation exposure, roof surface temperature, room temperature, and Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) values. Comparisons were made across different building materials, including variation in roofing, wall types, and ventilation systems. The wall in the existing structure are composed of concrete with a fiber wall. The findings highlight the impact of roofing materials, wall construction, and ventilation on the PMV, roof surface temperature, and indoor air temperature. Based on-site measurements, the average classroom temperature was 30.5°C. Among the simulation configurations, Model 3 which featured a metal roof with a cool roof technology, concrete walls, and added ventilation demonstrated the best thermal performance. It maintained a roof surface temperature just above 25°C and an indoor air temperature close to 30°C, showing the effectiveness of cool roof technology and adequate ventilation in reducing heat accumulation.

Abstract

Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondow Utara menawarkan beberapa jenis objek wisata baik wisata alam maupun wisata sejarah. Ada beberapa obyek wisata alam yang terdapat di Bolaang Mongondow Utara, salah satunya yaitu pantai Tanjung Dulang. Pantai ini memiliki potensi alam yang sangat baik. Akan tetapi yang menjadi permasalahan di lokasi wisata pantai Tanjung Dulang ini adalah belum dikembangkan seluruh potensinya, artinya bahwa belum adanya fasilitas kepariwisataan yang dapat di tawarkan bagi pengunjung. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk merancang kawasan wisata pantai Tanjung Dulang melalui fasilitas penunjang kepariwisataan dengan penerapan arsitektur Neo Vernakular. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode deskriptif dengan menentukan jenis data dan teknik pengumpulan data. Jenis data terdiri dari data objek perancangan berupa data primer dan sekunder. Kemudian mengidentifikasi kondisi yang ada pada site, dari hasil identifikasi kemudian dianalisa dan menghasilkan konsep perancangan kawasan wisata pantai dengan ciri khas budaya lokal, namun dikemas dalam bentuk yang lebih baru. Tahap untuk mencapai sebuah hasil desain kawasan wisata pantai dimulai dari mencari tinjauan umum berupa teori-teori dan studi preseden tentang kawasan wisata pantai, mengumpulkan data-data, menganalisa data yang telah didapat untuk dijadikan acuan perancangan yang menghasilkan desain. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa kawasan wisata pantai dengan pendekatan arsitektur Neo Vernakular.

Abstract

Lembaga Pemasyarakatan merupakan Unit Pelaksana Teknis di bawah Direktorat Jenderal Pemasyarakatan (Dirjen PAS) Kementerian Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia. Kondisi Lembaga Pemasyarakatan di Indonesia telah terjadi kelebihan kapasitas dimana jumlah penghuni lebih banyak dibanding jumlah kapasitas yang disediakan oleh Lembaga Pemasyarakatan yang ada di Indonesia. Kelebihan kapasitas juga terjadi pada Lembaga Pemasyarakatan di Provinsi Gorontalo. Jumlah kasus yang tinggi dan tidak adanya Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Khusus Narkotika di Gorontalo mengakibatkan para narapidana kejahatan narkoba ditahan di Lembaga pemasyarakatan umum yang mengakibatkan kelebihan kapasitas di beberapa Lembaga Pemasyarakatan. Dampak yang ditimbulkan karena akibat tidak adanya pemisahan narapidana narkotika adalah interaksi sesama narapidana yang tidak dapat ditahan dan akibat dari interaksi tersebut dapat menimbulkan hal negatif seperti saling mengajarkan cara melakukan kejahatan antar sesama narapidana. Rancangan lembaga pemasyarakatan ini bertujuan untuk mewujudkan desain lembaga pemasyarakatan yang mampu secara optimal menaungi dan membina narapidana khusus narkotika di Provinsi Gorontalo. Proses pengerjaan tugas akhir yang meliputi akar permasalahan/latar belakang hingga penentuan konsep perancangan nantinya akan diterapkan dalam proses perancangan pada Tugas akhir mendatang yang meliputi gambar desain rancangan. Metode Perancangan yang digunakan mencakup tiga poin penting yaitu pengumpulan data, analisis dan konsep perancangan. Hasil perancangan lembaga pemasyarakatan ini berlokasi di jalan Sude Kau, kelurahan Hutuo, Kec. Limboto, Kab. Gorontalo, Provinsi Gorontalo yang menerapkan tema arsitektur perilaku dalam denah bangunan hunian yang memudahkan petugas dalam penjagaan, menerapkan prinsip arsitektur perilaku yang mampu berkomunikasi dengan manusia pada fasad bangunan dan penegasan teritori dalam penataan layout secara kasawan.

Abstract

Gorontalo Province is one of the developing regions in Indonesia. The province has been actively building apartments since 2009. The construction increases population density and energy use intensity. Consequently, demand for electricity power rises. Renewable energy such as rooftop photovoltaics has the potential as a power source for the apartments, considering the abundant solar radiation in Gorontalo which is located near the equator line. Three apartments representing three levels of the inhabitant’s income are selected as study case for the application of photovoltaic (PV) on roof to achive net zero energy building. Simulation of PV energy to power the buildings is conducted using photovoltaic geographical information system (PVGIS). By utilizing monthly electrical bill data, it is found that PV on roof is sufficient to cover the building energy demand and achieve net zero energy building (NZEB). However, there is uncertainty of the fluctuation of energy demand due to the tenant’s energy consumption behaviour. The consumption intensity is limited only by the installed power on each apartment unit. PV on roof alone is unable to provide the need if it is employed to power the unit to the maximum extent.

Abstract

The Pantai Indah Pohe tourist area in Pohe Village, Gorontalo City, holds significant potential as a premier coastal tourism destination. However, challenges such as a lack of adequate location markers and insufficient visual promotion strategies hinder its development. To address these issues, a community service initiative was carried out by the D4 Architecture and Building Construction (ABG) Program at Gorontalo State University. The initiative aimed to enhance the visual image of the area and foster greater community involvement in promoting local tourism. The project adopted a participatory approach, actively engaging the village government, tourism awareness groups, and residents of various age groups. The activities involved creating and installing a new signage system for the "Pantai Indah Pohe" area, which serves as a crucial element for enhancing the visibility of the tourist spot. In addition, community engagement was facilitated through events such as coloring contests and sack races, aimed at promoting a sense of unity and local pride. The outcomes of this initiative revealed an increase in community awareness regarding the importance of visual promotion for tourism. It also fostered stronger social connections between local residents and academics, contributing to the community’s sense of ownership and pride in their local resources. Furthermore, the initiative provided tangible contributions to the strengthening of the local identity, with community members actively participating in the improvement process. The project aligns with Community-Based Tourism (CBT) principles and placemaking theory, which emphasize the importance of community involvement in shaping tourist destinations. This community service activity serves as an exemplary model of integrating architectural design, education, and sustainable tourism development, showcasing how academic and community collaboration can drive positive changes in local tourism promotion.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of bamboo building materials in the construction of gazebos and relaxation areas (dego-dego) as an implementation of project-based learning for students in the UNG Vocational Program. The research method uses a project-based learning (PBL) approach with stages of preparation, data collection through comparative studies, material delivery by lecturers, and evaluation of bamboo construction products. Activities included field visits to brick and concrete block factories, the creation of concrete models with various mixtures, and the practical application of gazebo construction using bamboo, wood, thatched roofs, palm fiber ropes, and other supporting materials. The results of the study showed a 70% success rate in students' mastery of knowledge and practical skills in applying bamboo as a sustainable construction material. Bamboo has been proven to have optimal structural characteristics as a lightweight, hollow material with bracing properties that strengthen construction. Despite group coordination challenges, this research has made an important contribution to developing an understanding of environmentally friendly construction material diversification and has laid the foundation for the development of sustainable material innovations in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the thermal performance of green canopies in public green spaces (RTH), both outdoors and indoors, as an environmentally friendly solution. The method involved measuring temperature and humidity over a five-month period with four observation intervals. The data were analyzed using the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI) and compared with thermal comfort standards based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The results show that at 0% plant coverage, the THI values fall into the "comfortable to slightly uncomfortable" category during the period from 19:00 to 08:00. In contrast, at 81.25% plant coverage, THI values remain in the "comfortable to slightly uncomfortable" range from 21:00 to 09:00. Relative humidity met the SNI standard of 75%. Furthermore, the outdoor temperature decreased by 4.9 °C, while the indoor temperature decreased by 3.5 °C. These findings indicate that the presence of green canopies, particularly in private green spaces, significantly reduces both outdoor and indoor temperatures as the percentage of plant coverage increases.Keywords: Public Green Space, Green Canopy, Temperature Humidity Index, Indonesian National Standards
