Abstract

Background: The image of fishermen so far is a group of people classified as poor. One effort to reduce poverty is to revive the microenterprise economy through cooperatives and utilize waqf funds as an alternative source of financing for microbusinesses. The Mining and Cumpat Fishermen Group of Kenjeran District in Surabaya City has now received capital injections from productive endowments in their cooperatives. However, another problem arises from productive waqf there, the waqf that is collected is not as much as what is needed by the person. Purpose: This service program is expected to produce an outcome that is a blockchain based application that can facilitate endowments and willingness. Thus it is expected to help increase the capital of the Fishermen and Cumpat Fishermen Group, Kenjeran District, Surabaya City. Method: This service program used a participatory method whereby the companion was also involved in the application business process. In addition, the companion also asked for active participation from the mauquf alaih to provide detailed information about his business. Thus, the facilitators could promote to the prospective waqf to channel the endowment funds. Results: This assistance program produced a waqf application with blockchain technology that can be accessed on waqf.network. Conclusion: This program was considered effective in growing trust in the distribution of waqf funds. In addition, maukuf alaih also makes it easier to get investors in developing their businesses.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to test Shariah compliant duration models on Islamic banks in Indonesia. This will be achieved using data of earning assets and risk bearing liabilities of Indonesian Islamic banks from 2009 to 2019. Using multiple regressions the results suggest that Shariah compliant duration models are robust to calculate duration of earning assets, return bearing liabilities and Islamic banks. This research adds to the previous research of testing Shariah compliant duration model. Ultimately, it will improve profitability, risk efficiency and Shariah efficiency by improved Shariah compliant measures of risk management. This will ultimately improve market capitalization and returns stability in the long run. A major limitation of the study is very short length of data of Islamic banks. Still another limitation is difference in commencement of business of various Islamic banks that makes length of data unequal.

Abstract

Cash waqf is one type of contemporary waqf which has been widely applied by waqf institutions and Islamic financial institutions in Muslim majority countries as well as in Muslim minority countries. This study is intended to identify and analyze the cash waqf model applied by three Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) as certified Nazhir with their unique characteristics, not only to achieve triple bottom-line (outreach, sustainability and welfare impact), strengthen its role as the agent of holistic financial inclusion (HFI) and develop micro enterprises (MEs), but also to improve its social programs, to improve its stability as well as to contribute to financial system stability. The results show that managing cash waqf (direct and indirect) will benefit not only final mauquf alaih (beneficiaries of BMT’s social programs), but also intermediate mauquf alaih (BMT and its MEs members). BMT would benefit from the placement of cash waqf funds in its waqf equity and investment deposit accounts, not only as source of fund, but also provides better liquidity risk and reduce mismatch, which in the long run would improve BMT stability and its resilience to external shock. BMT members and MEs would benefit from cheaper cost of micro-financing. Final mauquf alaih would benefit from more variety and better quality social programs. To improve the participation of BMTs in managing cash waqf, BMT should be authorized and encouraged, with incentives and necessary regulations, to independently manage its own cash waqf collected. Moreover, the determinants of BMT soundness should not only include its Baitut Tamwil performance, but also include its Baitul Maal performance. Abstract

This study aims to determine the Islamic Corporate Governance (ICG) model of entrepreneurship-based cash waqf. Using qualitative research methods and a multi-case study approach, research data were obtained primarily (in-depth interviews), online report documentation, journal articles, and books. Data analysis conclude that the ICG model of entrepreneurship-based cash waqf is built from a unique waqf membership model (waqf donations come from the company's Corporate Social Responsibility), determination of special donors, and determination of beneficiaries of waqf productivity funds in public facilities development programs that are integrated with entrepreneurial activities. This study recommends the issuance of entrepreneurship-based cash waqf shares, both permanent and temporary.

Abstract

The most frequently used financing contracts in Islamic financial institutions are murabahah and mudharabah. This study aims to reveal the phenomenon in the field about the description of the risk comparison between murabahah financing and mudharabah financing from the BMT side. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods through data collection methods with in-depth interviews with nine respondents who have experience handling the risks of murabahah financing and mudharabah financing at BMT. This study shows that the risk of mudharabah financing is greater than the risk of murabahah financing. In practice, mudharabah financing tends to be relatively high due to asymmetric information and moral hazard. The inherent risk in murabahah financing is the risk of member default due to default or member negligence in returning installments. This study also identifies risk factors such as trust risk and sharia legal risk for murabahah financing with wakalah contracts. This study shows that BMT applies the precautionary principle and is appropriate to maintain the institution's health to minimize the risks that occur. This research is expected to be a reference in managing the risk of murabahah financing and mudharabah financing with innovative strategies. The BMT Islamic Microfinance Institution needs to stimulate and educate to reduce the risk of mudharabah financing so that it can become a top priority for financing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship of the collection of Zakat, bank age, and total assets to the financial performance of Islamic banking in a sample of several Islamic banks in Indonesia in 2020 using multiple linear logistic regression test in the 2016-2020 period. The results show that company age and total assets of Islamic banks have a positive and significant effect on the spatial performance of Islamic banks. Meanwhile, what happened to the collection of zakat, the data showed that the collection of zakat of Islamic banks did not have a significant positive effect on the financial performance of Islamic banks. It is suspected that the large standard deviation of the zakat variable causes the first hypothesis to be unsupported. The existence of third party funds (DPK) is also suspected of having an effect on the unsupported first hypothesis. Keywords: Assets, Indonesia, Islamic Banks, ROA, Zakat.
