Abstract

This study aims to provide an alternative waqf model as Islamic social finance in realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-5, namely gender equality and correlate it with Maqashid al-Sharia. This study uses the Analytic Network Process (ANP). ANP is needed in the problem decomposition framework to structure complexity. There are 16 experts as the respondents. From the results of the ANP, it will also be known what the SDGs criteria, maqashid al-sharia components, and waqf models are priorities in realizing the 5th SDGs. The findings of this study reveal that among the other two, social pillars are the main criteria for the SDGs. In addition, the maqashid al-sharia framework's main objective is preserving religion (deen) as a means of enforcing religious responsibilities. Therefore, stakeholders need to consider this element. Then, according to this study, the best alternative waqf model is Waqf & Zakat, Infaq, Shadaqah (ZIS), which is very suitable for gender equality within the framework of women's empowerment in terms of education, entrepreneurship, and other life skills.

Abstract

Purpose – This paper aims to find the factors for designing an index of the quality of developing human resources as nadzir waqf to control and to be the reference for waqf management in every waqf institution.Methodology – This study used a qualitative method with the Analytic Network Process. The data analysis shows the most dominant influence and determines the priority order, and decision-making. The data analysis will be the weighted sum for the performance ratings for each alternative across all attributes using the Simple Additive Weighting method and at the end, the Nazhir Wakaf Index (INW) value will be obtained.Findings – The research finds the factors in the internal and external resolutions bringing experts into the field by monitoring, and synergies with the government. The Nazhir Waqf Index that tried implemented is low with a score of 40.731. From the table and figure, it can be concluded that the highest variable design score of the Nazhir Wakaf Index (INW) at Pondok Modern Gontor is the assignment with a score of 100. With that assignment, the nadzir waqf has the autonomy to develop his competencies and abilities.Implications – If approached the index one would be the solution to the development. By offering a preliminary index and delivering informative advertising nadzir waqf resources will ensure the ability to provide efficient management.Originality – This research takes an important research gap to analyze the competence of nadzir waqf by making measurements in the development of nadzir waqf resources that can be used by any waqf institution.

Abstract

One of the Islamic social financial instruments is waqf, which contributes to the welfare of the community by retaining the principal of waqf and providing the proceeds to people in need. Waqf when integrated with the tourism sector can improve the community's economy and support the creation of Halal tourism destinations. This research aims to explain the contribution of productive waqf to be optimal in the development of sustainable Halal tourism. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Waqf management is allowed with any mechanism that does not violate Islamic law. The stages of productive waqf management to be more efficient are to design in detail the goals or objectives of the project to be carried out, then realize the project, and conduct regular monitoring so that the project can run sustainably. The integration of productive waqf with the tourism sector is not only to increase the contribution in the economic aspect, but also to educate the public about the ease of waqf. To optimize the integration of productive waqf in Halal tourism, the government and stakeholders must work together, while also continuing to improve the quality of human resources in terms of management so that it becomes sustainable. Then an optimal branding and marketing strategy is carried out.

Abstract

In 2022, Indonesia was ranked 3rd in the utilization of Islamic fintech on a global scale. Despite this accomplishment, waqf institutions continue to face challenges in embracing fintech. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the extent of fintech-related research on waqf and its implications for the institutions in effectively harnessing fintech in their activities. It adopted a qualitative research approach, relying on Scopus-indexed documents as the primary source of data. Subsequently, the data were analyzed using the Publish or Perish (PoP) tool, following the Systematic Literature Review with PRISMA procedure, and supplemented with content analysis. The results showed noteworthy insights, where Ascarya, A emerged as the most influential author, while Hudaefi, F.A. claimed the highest number of citations. The publication with the greatest influence was the International Publication of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management, while the most influential affiliations were Universitas Airlangga and Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Indonesia was the most influential country in generating fintech on the waqf subject of the document. Among the 19 relevant papers examined, only 5 (26.32%) focused on the discussion of fintech's impact on waqf. This statistic highlighted the potential for further development of fintech by waqf institutions. Several opportunities for such development emerge, including the creation of waqf applications, the adoption of crowdfunding fintech, the exploration of waqf blockchain, the implementation of WaqfCoin, and the establishment of online platforms for public reporting of waqf fund activities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of economic growth and renewable energy on environmental sustainability in Indonesia. By applying the VECM analysis technique and data from 1990-2018 it was found that in the long term economic growth, renewable energy and natural resource extraction have an effect on environmental sustainability. The use of ecological footprint indicators is the main focus in this study because there are still very few studies that describe environmental sustainability in Indonesia from the perspective of the ecological footprint. This research provides impetus for the government to continue to strive for better renewable energy by seeing how important it is for environmental sustainability in Indonesia

Abstract

Limited access to financing, followed by the difficulty in the absorption of crop yields, is still a fundamental problem for farmers. This study proposes an integrated agricultural low-cost financing model based on cash waqf along with its parameters and risk mitigation. The proposed model is developed from a literature review underpinned by in-depth interviews with 17 experts (regulators, academia, and practitioners), followed by a Focus Group Discussion, and finally validated by the key experts. Findings reveal that cash waqf fund could be used as a low-cost financing with several risk mitigation procedures to finance farmers who have hardship accessing financing. Through institutional engineering, a nazhir (overseer) will involve a specialist vehicle in developing a value chain to facilitate off-takers ready to buy farmers' crops at competitive prices. The proposed model employs Mudharaba-Salam and Ijara schemes. The associated risks can be mitigated by a comprehensive feasibility study, using takaful/guarantee or reserve funds and financial restructuring. This model is expected to improve farmer welfare and national food security and deepen inclusive Islamic financial products in the agricultural sector.
