Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to develop Android-based learning media using a STEM approach to enhance students' problem-solving abilities. The learning media was developed using the 4D model and tested on 192 eighth-grade students from six junior high schools in Yogyakarta. The research results indicate that the developed learning media fulfills aspects of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Validity was confirmed through assessments by subject matter experts and media experts, scoring 82 and 73.5, respectively, falling into the categories of very good and good. Practicality was established through small-scale and large-scale tests, scoring 80.27 and 76.34, respectively, categorized as good in both instances. Effectiveness was determined through effectiveness tests, including one-sample t-test and mean different test. The one-sample t-test results indicated an improvement in students' problem-solving abilities with an average increase of 21.2769 in the control class and 42.5423 in the experimental class. The conclusion drawn from this research is that Android-based learning media using a STEM approach is effective in enhancing students' problem-solving abilities. Keywords: learning media, STEM, mobile application. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis android dengan pendekatan STEM untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa. Media pembelajaran dikembangkan dengan model 4D untuk diuji coba kepada 192 siswa kelas 8 dari 6 SMP di Yogyakarta. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran yang dibuat memenuhi aspek valid, praktis, dan efektif. Aspek valid diperoleh melalui penilaian ahli materi dan ahli media dengan nilai 82 dan 73,5 serta masuk pada kategori sangat baik dan baik. Aspek praktis diperoleh melalui uji skala kecil dan uji skala besar dengan nilai 80,27 dan 76,34 serta masuk kategori baik dan baik. Aspek efektif diperoleh melalui uji efektivitas yang meliputi one sample t-test dan mean different test. Berdasarkan one sample t-test diperoleh hasil bahwa terdapat peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa dengan peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 21,2769 pada kelas control dan 42,5423 pada kelas eksperimen. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah media pembelajaran berbasis android dengan pendekatan STEM efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa.  Kata kunci: android, media pembelajaran, STEM, 4D. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i4.pp890-900

Abstract

Open-ended approach has a valuable impact in supporting students’ mathematical problem solving ability. This approach allows students’ to explore different ways in solving mathematical problems, not only focusing on one solution but also considering other alternatives. However, students inevitably make mistakes in solving the problems in their learning process. Therefore, it is important to analyze the errors made by students in mathematics learning using student worksheets with an open-ended approach. This research is a descriptive qualitative study conducted in 6 Private National Junior High Schools in Yogyakarta. These schools were randomly selected using a spinning wheel from 13 schools in the third quartile. The subjects of this study were 384 students selected from 12 classes out of 22 classes in all the research schools. Data were collected using a problem-solving ability test on the subject of systems of linear equations in two variables and interviews. Student errors were categorized based on Newman's Error Analysis, which includes: (1) reading errors, (2) comprehension errors, (3) transformation errors, (4) process skill errors, and (5) encoding errors. The results of this study show that the dominant error sequence made by students is process skill errors, reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, and encoding errors. These errors are caused by students' inaccuracy in calculations, difficulties in calculations, errors in reading the questions, comprehension errors in understanding the given mathematical problems, errors in translating the information provided in the questions, and errors in concluding the problem-solving results due to students not understanding the question instructions properly, and the given mathematical problems being unfamiliar to the students         Keywords: student errors, student worksheet, open-ended approach, problem-solving skills.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i1.pp468-485

Abstract

This research aims to develop e-worksheet learning media with a STEM approach to improve junior high school students' creative thinking skills. This research is a development research using the ADDIE model. This research was conducted at 6 Catholic private junior high schools in seventh grade. The results of this study are e-worksheets that are made to meet valid, practical, and effective aspect categories. Valid aspects are obtained through the assessment of material experts and media experts with values of 77 and 63.5 and fall into the very good and good categories. The practicality aspect was obtained through small-scale tests and large-scale tests with values of 80.17 and 75.83 and were in the good category for both. The effectiveness aspect is obtained through the results of the effectiveness test which includes paired sample ttest, one sample t-test, and mean different test. Based on the paired sample t-test for the experimental class and the control class, the results showed that there was an increase in scores before using the e-worksheet and after using the e-worksheet. Based on the one sample t-test, it was found that there was an increase in students' creative thinking abilities by using eworksheets.
