Abstract

Phytochemical test and Antibacterial Activity test in each fraction of the gourds fruit (Lagenari siceraria (Molina) Standl) that came from Teluk Dalam, Tenggarong Seberang have been done. The sample of leaves was extracted with ethanol and then concentrated by using rotary evaporator. The ethanol crude extract was fractioned with n-hexane, Ethyl Acetate and Methanol. Based on the phytochemical test on secondary metabolits of the gourds fruit (Lagenari siceraria (Molina) Standl), it showed that ethanol crude extract contained flavonoid, saponin, steroid, and phenol. n-hexane fraction contained a steroid, ethyl acetate fraction contained phenol. And methanol-water fraction contained saponin and phenol. Based on the Antibacterial Activity test using the paper disc diffusion method (diameter 6 mm), the results of this test showed that the most active fraction is n-Heksana with : of the Bacillus cereus bacteria at the concentration 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% (b/v) with inhibition diameter 9.57, 9.88, 10.17, 12.18, 13 and 14.3 mm respectively so minimum inhibitory concentration got 0-1%. The active response toward Salmonella typhi bacteria at the concentration 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% (b/v) with inhibition diameter 7.50, 7.60, 8.20, 8.38, 8.87, and 9.8 mm so minimum inhibitory concentration got 0-1%. The chloramphenicol antibiotics concentration 0.00386 M as a standard to inhibit the growth of Bacillus cereus and Salmonella typhi bacteria with the inhibition diameter 12.58 mm and 15.06 mm respectively.

Abstract

Synthesis of dietanolamide surfactant from methyl ester of sunflower seed oil (Helianthus annuus. L) has been carried out through an amidation reaction. In the extraction process showed the oil content of sunflower seeds was 32.93% with an acid number of 3.25 mg KOH/g and ALB levels of 1.63%. Sunflower seed oil was then converted to methyl ester through the esterification process and obtained an acid number 1.84 mg KOH/g so that the ALB level dropped to 0.92% and obtained saponification numbers of 61.19 mg KOH/g. The most dominant composition of methyl ester of sunflower seed oil based on GC-MS analysis was methyl oleate at 23.28%. The FT-IR methyl ester spectrum gives a specific absorption peak for group C=O ester at wave number 1743 cm-1. Methyl esters are converted to diethanolamide through an amidation process. The resulting diethanolamide has an acid number of 9.7 mg KOH/g and a saponification number of 3.08 mg KOH/g. The FT-IR spectrum provides specific absorption peaks for groups C=O amides at wave numbers 1622 cm-1. The value of HLB dietanolamide in practice is 13.6495 and in theory is 14.291 which includes the surfactant in the oil in water (O/W) emulsifying class. Abstract

Isolation and characterization of terpenoid compounds from ethyl acetate fraction of Macaranga beccariana Merr. have been done. The separation process at ethyl acetate fraction using gravity column chromatography with gradient elution method. The obtained isolates were tested for purity using thin layer chromatography with various eluents namely n-hexane, chloroform, methanol, acetone and ethyl acetate with Rf values 0; 0.75; 0.80; 0.87 and 0.97 respectively. The terpenoids which were successfully isolated were white crystals with a mass of 0.0119 grams. UV analysis produced 1 peak at l 207.03 nm. Analysis of compounds with FT-IR indicated the functional groups O-H, aliphatic C-H, aliphatic C=C, C-O and C=O. Based on the results of the UV and FT-IR spectrum, the isolate compounds were thought to contain terpenoids.

Abstract

Kelengkeng fruit already well known for Indonesian society. Not only from the contents of the fruit, but Kelengkeng also have many other beneficial from the seed, leather, root and leaves that useful for human health. In this research, phytochemical and antioxidant activity test have been done. Antioxidant activity test was carried out with scavenging test to 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhidrazil (DPPH) radical. On antioxidant activity test, mix of extract and DPPH are incubated for 30 minutes at 37oC, then the absorbance measured at λ = 517 nm using spectrophotometer. The absorbance from sample, blank and negative control are converted as Antioxidant Activity Absorbance (AA%). Based on result of phytochemical etanol extract, Kelengkeng contains phenolic compounds. And based on antioxidant activity test with DPPH radical scavenging method by spectrophotometer, ethanol extract of Kelengkeng has antioxidant activity about EC50(72.23±2.55) while Vitamin C as comparison has antioxidant activity about EC50(6.07±0.36).Keywords: Kelengkeng, phytochemical, antioxidant activity and DPPH

Abstract

Ornamental plants are one of the resources that have the potential to be developed on a large scale due to high public interest. The dollar leaf plant is one of the most common ornamental plants. The leaves of the dollar plant are commonly used in traditional medicine. The objective of this research was to determine the antioxidant properties by means of the 2,2 diphenyl -1-picryhidrazil (DPPH) method from the methanolic extract of dollar leaf (Ficus pumila L.). Based on the results of phytochemical tests, the methanol extract is known to contain alkaloids and steroids. The dollar leaf methanolic extract showed antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 387.753 mg/mL. From the antioxidant activity test results, dollar leaf methanol extract has relatively weak antioxidant power. Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of identifying the antibacterial activity of crude ethanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction, methanol:water fraction and n-hexane fraction of white pacing flower (Costus speciosus (J. Koenig) Sm.). Sample preparation was carried out using the extraction method, namely maceration with 96% ethanol and obtained a crude extract of ethanol and continued by partition by liquid-liquid extraction method and obtained the n-hexane, the ethyl acetate, and the methanol:water fractions. The antibacterial activity test was carried out on the four samples using the well diffusion method with modification against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The antibacterial activity test showed activity in the crude extract of ethanol with an inhibition zone diameter of 7.7 mm. Keyword: white pacing, antibacterial, Escherichia coli

Abstract

Antibacterial activity from methanol extracts of edible rhizomes namely temu putih (Curcuma zedoaria), temu ireng (Curcuma aeruginosis), temu giring (Curcuma heyneana) and temu kunci (Boesenbergia pandurata) against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 based on diameter of inhibition zone by using agar difusion method was conducted. With 1% of each extracts, methanol extract of temu kunci showed excellence acntibacterial acitivty against E. coli with the diameter of inhibition zone of 20,0 mm and followed by methanol extract temu giring is 19,0 mm. While methanol extract of temu ireng and temu putih revealed strong antibacterial activity with inhibition zones of 10.7 and 10,0 mm, respectively. Abstract

Inflammation is the basic process by which tissues respond or react to infection, irritation, or other injuries. One of the plants that have the potential as an anti-inflammatory is pacing putih (Costus speciosus (J. Koenig) Sm.). This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract. The method used was the inhibition of protein denaturation with bovine serum albumin and diclofenac sodium as positive controls. The ethanol extract contains phenolics, flavonoids, and saponins. Anti-inflammatory activity (IC50) of 30.9031 mg/L. The ethanol extract of pacing putih flower has the potential to have anti-inflammatory activity. Keywords: Costus speciosus (J. Abstract

Sunscreen test of  keledang (Artocarpus lanceifolius Roxb.) leaves based on in vitro method was carried out. This research aimed to investigate the property of sunscreen from methanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol-water fraction of keledang leaves. The methods used include the in vitro methods by using spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Based on results of phytochemical test, it was known that  methanol extract contains flavonoids, phenolics, steroids/triterpenoids. n-Hexane fraction contains steroids/triterpenoids and quinones. Ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids, phenolics, steroids/triterpenoids and quinones. Methanol-water fraction contains flavonoids and phenolics. Methanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol-water fraction also showed sunscreen activity based on the SPF value at a concentration of 25; 50; 100; 150; 200 and 250 mg/L. Crude methanol extract has SPF value respectively were 4.44; 7.36; 15.15; 22.47; 31.25 and 37.31 (minimum-ultra). N-Hexane fraction has SPF value respectively were 1.37; 2.24; 5.07; 7.51; 10.01 and 12.74 (minimum-maximum). Ethyl acetate fraction has SPF value respectively were 3.321; 7.20; 13.03; 19.54; 25.97 and 30.59 (minimum-ultra). Methanol-water fraction has SPF value respectively were 5.24; 10.87; 21.48; 30.89; 36.01 and 38.52 (medium-ultra). The SPF value increases with increasing concentration because the higher the concentration, the more active sunscreen compounds contained in the extract and fraction. In keledang leaves, methanol-water fraction has the highest suncreen activity folowed by methanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction and n-hexane fraction. Abstract

Singkil leaves (Premna cordifolia Roxb.) are a plant that is widely found in Kalimantan, and usually grows in the yard of houses or plantations. The antioxidant activity test of methanol extract from Singkil leaves (Premna cordifolia Roxb.) has been done. This research aims to determine the antioxidant properties of methanol extract from leaves. Based on the results of the phytochemical test, it is known that the methanol extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, steroids and triterpenoids. The results of the literature show that the methanol extract exhibits antioxidant activity in the "Strong" category, which has an IC50 value of 77.46 mg/L.
