Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the impact of temperature gradients and solvent ratios in the evaporative vacuum cooling method on the yield of phenol and flavonoid content in galangal extract; ascertain the impact of these factors on the yield generated by galangal extract; and ascertain the mass balance analysis of materials are the objectives of this study. Throughout the extraction of galangal. The study's findings demonstrated that the evaporative vacuum cooling technique, conducted at 49 ºC and with a 1:1 solvent ratio of 1.4432±0.7317 mg GAE/g, produced the highest total phenol concentration. The three differences in the temperature of the evaporative vacuum produced the total phenol content cooling. The overall phenol content obtained decreases with increasing solvent ratio addition. Although the evaporative vacuum cooling treatment at 45 °C yielded the highest total flavonoid content (1.2418±0.2365 mg QE/g) at a 1:2 solvent ratio, the total flavonoid content varied between the three evaporative vacuum cooling temperature variations. The yield of total phenolic and flavonoid compounds was not significantly affected by temperature gradient adjustments or the ratio of galangal extract to solvent (Sig. > 0.05) in any of the data samples pertaining to phenolic and flavonoid compounds. Keywords: Evaporative vacuum cooling, Flavonoids, Galangal, Phenol.

Abstract

Finished leather, a primary material for making shoes, bags, and wallets, is processed through tanning to remove veins and feathers. Liquid waste contains a high demand for chemical oxygen (COD), chloride, chromium, and sulfide that can affect river water quality if not treated further. This research was conducted at PT X in Malang City, where liquid waste treatment using an aerator is considered less effective. The tool used in this study is a jet aerator to increase the spread of oxygen in the aeration process. The study aimed to assess changes in the characteristics of tanning liquid waste (pH, temperature, total suspended solids/TSS), and COD) and the effectiveness of using jet aerators in aeration methods in tanning liquid waste treatment. Aeration is carried out for three days. The treatment carried out is aerator + 15 L (A15), jet aerator + 15 L (JA15), and jet aerator + 20 L (JA20). The data were analyzed using Factorial Complete Randomized Design followed by the Smallest Significant Difference test. pH and temperature have met quality standards, while TSS and COD have not. The results showed that the jet aerator +15 L (JA15) decreased maximum tanning liquid waste characteristics on day 1. In contrast, aerator +15 L (A15) and jet aerator +20 L (JA20) decreased maximum waste characteristics on day 2. The jet aerator+15 L (JA15) treatment provides the highest effectiveness value compared to other treatments. COD decreased 49.2%, and TSS decreased 49.7%. Abstract

Sanankerto Village has an abundant number of livestock (goats), resulting in a significant accumulation of goat manure, which poses a potential health threat to the residents. To enhance the economic value of goat manure in Sanankerto Village, it is necessary to establish an institution focused on managing goat manure waste from upstream to downstream, namely a farmers' group. This community service program aims to initiate the formation of the Sanankerto Village Farmers' Group, with a focus on organizational quality systems, including vision, mission, objectives, quality policies, organizational structure, task mapping, SOPs, and work instructions (IK). Using the PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) method, an agreement was reached between the program implementers and Sanankerto Village officials to establish the farmers' group. Due to time constraints, the reported program for forming the farmers' group covers only the formulation of the vision, mission, objectives, and quality policies. This program successfully formulated the vision, mission, and quality policies of the farming group, although further action is still required for full implementation. Based on the achievements to date, it can be concluded that the establishment of the farming group using the PRA method has successfully raised community awareness of the economic potential of goat manure
