Abstract

Siombak is the artificial lake formed as the result of sand dredging activities in an area formerly known as Paya Pasir. The purpose of this study was to determine the water physical and chemical parameters of Siombak Lake in conjunction with water quality standards at PP 82 Tahun 2001 and Storet methods as well as the diversity of macrozoobenthic. This study was conducted from May to July 2014 at the Siombak Lake District of Medan Marelan in Medan City. The results obtained, the relationship between water chemical physical parameters of Siombak Lake in reference to water quality standards at PP 82 Tahun 2001 and Storet method states that the waters of Siombak Lake belong to the C class with the condition of water being moderately contaminated. The value of diversity index (H') of macrozoobenthic were obtained at each station study ranged from 1,091 to 1,480. The results of Pearson correlation analysis showed that temperature, COD, phosphate, light penetration and BOD5 have a positive correlation with the diversity of macrozoobenthic while salinity, DO and nitrate have a negative correlation. Keywords: Siombak lake, Diversity of Macrozoobenthic, Water Quality

Abstract

The purpose of research was to examine the condition and tourism potential in mangrove ecosystem area as foundation to develop mangrove ecosystem on Sei Nagalawan coastal according to ecotourism perception and environmental carrying capacity. This research was carried out in August-September 2014. The research method was purposive sampling for mangrove potential and SWOT analysis for developing strategies on mangrove ecotourism in Sei Nagalawan coastal area.. Mangrove species found were Avicennia marina, A. officinalis, Bruguierra cylindrica, and Rhizophora apiculata. Animals species found were birds, reptile, fish, mollusca and crustaceae. Tourism similarity index for mangrove ecosystem activity was 36 people/day. There were three priority strategies alternatively, firstly, to increase the bussiness management of mangrove ecosystem of ecoutorism activity. Secondly, to keep the tourism mangrove object by establising the carrying capacity area. Thirdly, to promote the mangrove ecotourism using internet or any medias. Keywords: Ecoutorism, mangrove ecosystem, Sei Nagalawan coastal, SWOT analysis.

Abstract

The increase of population in the coastal area affects in exploitation of ground water . Shallow well is one of the media that be used to fulfill the needs of water. The location of ground water that closed to coastal area, caused the sea water intrution and then shallow well water changed into brackish and salty. The aim of this research is to analyze the salinity of shallow well water and mapping the distribution shallow well water. This research was done in Denai Kuala village district of Pantai Labu, Deli Serdang on May until June 2015. The water sample was taken randomly with 80 samples of shallow well water spread in four station. This research uses the Arc GIS 9.3 software to obtain a map of the spread of salinity. Spread show that the salinity of the shallow well water in the Denai Kuala village varied. Salinity of shallow well at station 1 is 0 mg/l ( category fresh water), at station 2 is 2250 mg/l ( category brackish water), at station 3 is 0 mg/l (category fresh water), and at station 4 is 3150 mg/l (category brackish water). The spread of salinity show that the biggest of sea water intrusion are on the station 2 and station 4, while on the station 1 and station 3 have not been affected by seawater intrusion. Keywords : Seawater Intrusion, Salinity, Shallow Wells.PENDAHULUANPertumbuhan penduduk semakin meningkat sepanjang

Abstract

In the cultivation of fish consumption, the most important factors are the growth and survival. Catfish is a freshwater fish consumption that growth relatifely fast. This study was aimed to know the influence of EM-4 in feed to the growth and survival rate of catfish and to determine the amount of EM-4 effective concentration to the growth and survival rate of catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Fish fed 5 % of fish body weight per day. Feeding frequency of three times a day at 08.00 WIB, 13.00 WIB and 18.00 WIB. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments : K (control), P1 (2ml/kg), P2 (4 ml/kg), P3 (6 ml/kg) with three replications. The result was tested by ANOVA, the results showed that concentration EM-4 on feed significantly affect the survival and weight of catfish, but did not significantly affect the fish length. Best weight growth rate was in P3 treatment and the best survival rate was in P2 treatment.Key words : Clarias gariepinus, EM-4, growth, survival rate

Abstract

Mud crab is potential mangrove fishery that have important economic value. Tanjung Rejo Village has broad mangrove that used to support society economy causing degradation mud crab habitat. This study aims to know mangrove ecosystems condition in Tanjung Rejo village and analyze mangrove density effect to mud crab abundance. This study held in February until March 2016. Determination sampling using purposive sampling method and divided into 3 stations with different mangrove density condition. This study analyzed is mangrove ecosystem condition, water quality, mud crab population and mangrove density correlation with mud crab abundance. The results show mangrove density condition in Tanjung Rejo village at station 1 highly density category 2433 trees/ha, at station 2 low density category (damaged) 900 trees/ha and at station 3 medium density category 1000 trees/ha. Regression equation of the influence mangrove trees density and mud crab abundance is Y = 389.3 + 0,0348x. The relationship between mangrove density and mud crab abundance correlation coefficient (r) 0.4970.Keywords : Mud Crab Abundance, Mangrove, Tanjung Rejo Village, Correlation

Abstract

Catfish is one of the freshwater fishery commodities whose demand is increasing in Indonesia. Intensive cultivation is required to meet the market demand. Intensive cultivation can be done by optimizing the stocking density. This study aimed to determine the effect of added Nitrobacter with high stocking density system on the survival, height growth and weight growth of catfish (Clarias sp.) As well as to determine the maximum stocking density of catfish with the average length of 6 cm and 1.5 gram in average weight. 450 catfish were used. The study was conducted at Laboratory of Aquaculture, Water Resource Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan in June until July 2016. The container were used are 9 aquarium size of 60 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm with a volume of 72 liters each aquarium. The parameters were observed during 42 days of observation are; survival, weight growth and length growth. During the study, fish were fed with artificial feed as much as 5% of body weight per day. The feeding frequency are 3 times a day which are at 10:00, 14:00, 18:00. This study used completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments, those are stocking density of 600 individuals / liter (P1), 700 fish / liter (P2) and 800 fish / liter (P3) and repeated 3 times. The P1 treatment showed the best score at weight growth rate and length growth rate in the amount of 40,70 gram and 12,63 cm. The P3 treatment showed the lowest weight growth rate and length growth rate that is equal to 38,74 gram and 12,18 cm. Stocking density did not significantly affected the length growth rate, weight growth rate and survival of fish. Keywords : Clarias sp., Growth, Stocking Density, Survival
