Abstract

This article explains a study that aims to find out how the validity, feasibility, and benefit of a scientific approach-based Mathematics module for elementary school students at grade IV toward two-dimensional materials. The research method used is research and development. The method used for data collection was a questionnaire. The results of research and development were conducted with several stages by using the 4D development research model. The results of the module validity that were based on the validation of material experts were 93% categorized as very valid, 95% from linguists were categorized as very valid, 92% from media experts were categorized as very valid, and the feasibility based on the assessment of the teacher's responses with a percentage of 93% was categorized as very feasible. Subsequently, the assessment of the module feasibility based on student responses by 10 indicators was obtained 92% categorized as very feasible. Thus, the learning media for the mathematics module based on a scientific approach was very feasible to be used for elementary school students at grade IV.

Abstract

The problem in this study was that students were in a passive state in learning activities, causing a lack of learning activities. This was because the teacher did not apply learning models or learning media when providing materials. The population in this study were grade five students of SD Negeri 15 Sungailiat. In this study, class VB students were grouped as the experimental class who were taught by using Make A Matching model with the aid of graphic media, and class VA students were grouped as the control class who were taught by using a conventional model. The total number of samples in this study were 31 students in each class. The method used in this study was a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design type of nonequivalent control group design. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, questionnaires, and documents. The data analysis technique used the ttest (independent sample t-test) with the help of SPPS Version 23. The results of this study indicated that Ha was accepted or there was a significant difference in students’ learning activities in the control class and the experimental class. This was seen from the results of sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05, with an average score difference of 34.36%. Thus, this study concluded that Make A Matching model assisted by graphic media were more effective to increase students’ learning

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the essential 21st-century skills students must possess, particularly in mathematics learning, which requires reasoning, analysis, and in-depth interpretation. However, observations at SD Negeri 09 Pemulutan revealed that fifth-grade students' critical thinking skills remained low, marked by limited active engagement in questioning, summarizing material, and collaborating, due to the conventional learning model that provided little opportunity for students to investigate and construct concepts independently. This study aims to determine the effect of the discovery learning model on the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students in mathematics. This study employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental design, specifically a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 40 students from SD Negeri 09 Pemulutan, divided into Class V A as the experimental group and Class V B as the control group, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, then analyzed using an independent sample t-test after the data were confirmed to be normally distributed and homogeneous. The results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000, lower than 0.05, indicating a significant effect of the discovery learning model on students' critical thinking skills. These findings suggest that active student engagement in independent investigation through discovery learning effectively enhances critical thinking skills compared to conventional learning. ABSTRAK Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu kecakapan abad ke-21 yang sangat penting dimiliki siswa, khususnya dalam pembelajaran matematika yang menuntut penalaran, analisis, dan interpretasi mendalam. Namun, hasil observasi di SD Negeri 09 Pemulutan menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas V masih rendah, ditandai dengan kurangnya keterlibatan aktif siswa dalam bertanya, menyimpulkan materi, dan bekerja sama, akibat penerapan model pembelajaran konvensional yang belum memberi ruang bagi siswa untuk menyelidiki dan menemukan konsep secara mandiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran discovery learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas V SD pada mata pelajaran matematika. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain Quasi Experimental, jenis Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 40 siswa SD Negeri 09 Pemulutan, terdiri atas kelas V A sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelas V B sebagai kelompok kontrol, dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji independent sample t-test setelah data dinyatakan berdistribusi normal dan homogen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000, lebih kecil dari 0,05, yang berarti terdapat pengaruh signifikan model discovery learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa keterlibatan aktif siswa dalam proses penyelidikan mandiri melalui discovery learning efektif meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional.

Abstract

HUMAN BEINGS AS ANIMAL EDUCANDUM IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF NATIVIST EDUCATION: A QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTIVE NARRATIVE STUDY This article discusses human beings as Animal Educandum from the perspective of nativist education using a qualitative descriptive narrative approach. The study is grounded in the importance of understanding humans as beings who possess innate potential while also requiring education to develop their humanity. Human children are not born independent; they enter life in a weak, dependent, and unfinished condition that requires assistance from adults and the surrounding social environment. Therefore, education is understood as a process of guidance that helps children recognize, direct, and develop the potential they have brought since birth. This study aims to explain the concept of human beings as Animal Educandum, the meaning of human children as beings who need assistance, and education from the perspective of nativism. The method used is qualitative descriptive narrative through a literature review of relevant sources on educational philosophy, human nature, child development, and nativist theory. The findings show that human beings as Animal Educandum are characterized by educability, the need for guidance, and the potential to grow through educational processes. Human children need assistance because they do not yet possess complete physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral readiness. From the nativist perspective, education does not create potential from nothing, but serves to direct innate potential so that it can develop optimally. Understanding humans as educational beings can help teachers and parents design humane guidance. Education should consider children’s talents, dispositions, character, and needs, so learning is not limited to academic achievement but supports the formation of a personality.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih adanya siswa kelas I Sekolah Dasar yang mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca permulaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor penghambat kemampuan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas I SD Negeri 98 Palembang. penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 12 siswa, guru kelas, dan orang tua siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Sedangkan analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hambatan membaca permulaan dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi aspek fisiologis dan psikologis, seperti rendahnya motivasi, minat membaca, dan konsentrasi, serta daya ingat siswa. Sementara itu, faktor eksternal meliputi lingkungan belajar yang kurang kondusif, metode dan media pembelajaran yang kurang menarik, serta kurangnya dukungan orang tua.
