Abstract

Abstract - Cireundeu Traditional Village is one of the traditional villages that still exist today. Located in Leuwigajah Village, South Cimahi District, Cireundeu Traditional Village has Sunda Wiwitan as the root of indigenous identity. Like a traditional village, there are many traditions, cultures, ancestral values, and rules handed down by previous elders. However, the rapid flow of globalization that is currently happening can have an impact on the meaning of customary values in the Cireundeu Traditional Village. “Miindung ka time, mibapa ka era” – is one of the established principles which means that humans must grow and develop by following the progress of the times while still preserving the inherited culture. The existence of this principle makes the indigenous people of the Cireundeu Traditional Village open to the development of the times. This openness can affect the meaning of existing customary values, especially regarding village arrangements and patterns of spatial arrangement in buildings. The purpose of this study was to examine the consistency of the arrangement, as well as the customary values of buildings with a residential scale in the indigenous people of the Cireundeu Traditional Village. The research was conducted with the hope of exploring what is behind the arrangement of the Cireundeu Traditional Village and how the consistency of indigenous peoples is in following the arrangement. The research was conducted using a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out by direct observation in the field, conducting interviews with figures who were considered to understand the history of the Cireundeu Traditional Village, and searching for secondary data using literature studies from previous research so that previous documentation about the Cireundeu Traditional Village could be obtained. Based on the collected data, it is concluded that the arrangement of the Cireundeu Traditional Village is based on the applicable rules and regulations regarding the placement of the main door and side door. Based on virtual documentation that was traced in 2006, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2019, and 2022, not much has changed. Although the form of housing is not in the form of a house on stilts, the indigenous people of the Cireundeu Traditional Village still interpret traditional values through the application of the Pancawara concept. Thus, it is concluded that although the indigenous peoples are open to rapid development, the indigenous people of the Cireundeu Traditional Village are still consistent in maintaining traditional values. The application of these traditional values of course undergoes several adjustments with the progress of the times. However, it can still be expressed through physical and spatial arrangements both at the village scale and at the residential scale. Abstract

Abstract - Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, South Tangerang City Government has temporarilyclosed City Parks 1 and 2. With the closure of city parks, people are looking for alternative public open spaceson a smaller scale, namely neighborhood parks. The focus of the research will be on neighborhood parks in theBSD City, Taman Perdamaian dan Taman Kesehatan. Both objects of this study have the same position as anactive neighborhood park. Currently the condition of Taman Perdamaian has decreased in physical quality.Meanwhile, the condition of Taman Kesehatan looks deserted by visitors even though the facilities are very wellmaintained. This study wants to identify more deeply the quality of the two public open spaces in terms ofphysical elements and their activities to find out what factors influence the success of the two neighborhoodparks as public open spaces in urban settlements. This research is descriptive qualitative. Information wascollected by field observations related to physical elements and their use in the two study objects. Furthermore, questionnaires and interviews were distributed to users, to obtain perception data as a basis for identifying thequality of the two public open spaces. Based on the analysis, it is known that the Taman Perdamaian hasmanifested three qualities that contribute to the overall structure of a place, namely permeability, variety, andphysical legibility. With the realization of these three qualities, the park's success can be seen in attracting moreusers. Meanwhile, in Taman Kesehatan of the three qualities that stand out, only permeability and the moredominant manifestation of visual suitability and richness that are more focused on spatial details. This answerswhy Taman Kesehatan is underutilized, namely because of the lack of embodiment of the quality of diversity andquality of legibility. Keywords: public open space in settlements, neighborhood park, quality of public open space

Abstract

This paper presents an outline of the literature review and is part of a dissertation research proposal that puts forward a mimetic approach in relation to the preservation efforts for the sustainability of vernacular architecture. The topic put forward is motivated by the discourse of extinction of vernacular architecture and preservation efforts undertaken to maintain and/or maintain its sustainability. The phenomenon of imitation is then presented to show the relationship between the act of imitating with the trace of the sustainability of vernacular architecture. From this phenomenon, it is assumed that the act of imitating as part of a broad concept of mimesis, might be able to offer a new method that is effective and can be used to fill research gaps related to the issue of sustainability of vernacular architecture. This assumption is a motivation to conduct a literature review using an integrative approach to build a theoretical foundation that can produce novelty from planned research. The result of this literature review is a mimetic trilogy diagram, as an approach tool for the sustainability of vernacular architecture.

Abstract

Indonesia's location in the ring of fire and between three continental plates makes it vulnerable to disasters. As a result, school buildings are damaged and require time and resources to be repaired or enhanced. It emphasizes the need for building designs that can be constructed quickly. As a result, the country's educational system is still developing slowly compared to other countries. The study methodology will involve two forms: gathering data and writing it properly. The writing approach will compare and analyze prefabricated variables among selected prior items. A comparison of data on school buildings constructed after a disaster or prefabricated methods of construction appropriate for application in these types of circumstances is the result of this study. To maintain a balance in the speed of school procurement that can continue as permanent buildings without the need for emergency or temporary schools, the research aims to ascertain the design criteria for post-disaster schools using prefabricated methods and to determine the correlation between speed and comfort.

Abstract

Biophilic design is a design approach that integrates natural elements into the built environment. Biophilic research has rapidly expanded into design, health, psychology, and technology. This study aims to explore trends of biophilic research, identify the relationships between scientific concepts, and reveal opportunities for further research. This library-based study employs a literature review method using bibliometric analysis. Digital data collection was obtained through Google Scholar for 2004-2024 with keywords 'biophilic', 'biophilic design', 'nature connection', and 'biophilia hypothesis'. Meta-data collection was conducted using Publish or Perish (PoP). Subsequently, VOSviewer was employed to create scientific maps for bibliometric analysis, and lens.org was utilized to conduct performance analysis. The findings reveal that over the past two decades, the number of publications on biophilic research in scientific journals has grown across various academic disciplines. Keyword-based mapping indicates the existence of conceptual relationships in psychology, environment, architecture, and ecology with six dominant clusters, namely; 'biophilic design strategy', 'biophilic urbanism', 'biophilic design framework', 'wellness and mental health', 'healing', and 'biophilic elements'. Based on these results, there are significant opportunities for further biophilic research in architecture and psychology scope, focusing on the design of built environments that incorporate natural elements into the built environment.

Abstract

Efforts to display the expression of the functions and local identities of buildings are merely copying ornamental variations of vernacular architectural elements. As a result, the relation among function-form-meaning remain unseen. This study aims to explain the application of the concept of synthesized architectural expressions on government owned buildings. Based on the research objectives, the Mayor’s office building of Kupang City was chosen as the object of this case study. The initial step of this research is to elaborate the theory of archetypal anatomy and the relation of architectural function-meaning-functions. Furthermore, the observation unit is redrawn in three dimensions and analyzed based on ordering principle of balance and orientation. The analysis shows that the interpretation of the appearance of Mayor's office building of Kupang City displays monumental, formal, local expressions and represents democratic ideologies. Interpretation of synthesized expressions occurs in the dominant aspects of local architecture in the elements of the roof, walls and entrance columns. The results of this study confirm that the concept of synthesized expression plays an important role in the midst of change pressure and for the sustainability of architecture nowadays. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v12i2.4302
