Abstract

Agricultural waste such as goat manure and urine could be a source of environmental pollution and a source of disease if it can’t be processed into beneficial fertilizer. The use of organic fertilizers could increase plant growth and can prevent land quality degradation, but some of the weaknesses in the application of organic fertilizer are the lack of information on nutrient content and its effects on plant growth. The aim of this research is to analyse the fermentation periods for producing the highest macro nutrient in liquid organic fertilizer made from goat urine and banana stumps. The results showed that the effect of the fermentation periods gave different results of macro nutrients. The recommendation for fermentation periods required to produce the highest macro nutrient content was P2 (21 days), the percentage value of nutrients in (P2: 21 days) were Nitrogen (1.83%), Phosphorus (0.56%) and Potassium (1.20%). The research results also showed that the P4 treatment (20 mL of liquid organic fertilizer) giving the highest value on several parameters in chili (height, number of leaves, fresh weight, root length, number of flower and fruits). P1 and P3 recommended for appearance of flowers (30 DAT) and P4 recommended for stimulating fruit primordia.

Abstract

Abstract

Plastic is a man-made synthetic polymer that has stable and durable characteristics The process of decomposing plastic takes a long time and the use of plastic which is increasing every year results in the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment, causing environmental pollution. Biodegradation is one solution to reduce the amount of plastic with the help of microorganisms or bacteria. This study has an objective to analyze the OD value; TPC; and the percentage value of plastic waste weight loss from each Indigenous bittern bacterial isolate in degrading plastic waste on YEB media + 1% glucose. The research procedure includes sterilization of tools and materials until data analysis. Data on TPC and OD values during the degradation process were analyzed descriptively and the percentage value of plastic dry weight after 7 days of incubation time was analyzed statistically. The highest OD value was 1,613 (BB1), the highest TPC value was 13,93 Log CFU/ml (BB4), and the highest plastic dry weight percentage value was 25%+0b (BB4). This research provides new insights into the potential of Indigenous bittern bacteria as plastic waste biodegradation agents and enriches knowledge in the field of environmental biotechnology. This research can be used as a basis for the waste management industry and government to design more sustainable policies in waste management to reduce dependence on conventional methods that are expensive and less effective

Abstract

Biofouling is an aquatic biota that lives by attaching to a harmful substrate. Bacteria are one of the factors in the formation of biofouling communities on the substrate. Lipolytic bacteria are microorganisms capable of degrading lipid (fat) compounds. The purpose of this study aimed to determine the characteristics of lipolytic bacteria that were successfully isolated from a sample of the Suramadu concrete bridge substrate (Surabaya-Madura waters). There are 3 sampling stations doing 3 repetitions at each station. The isolation method used was a pour plate using selective Stone Mineral Salt Solution Extract Yeast Agar (SMSSEYA) + 2% bacto agar media . The results showed that the characterization of bacterial colonies in Surabaya-Madura waters obtained 5 types of bacterial colonies namely BL1, BL2, BL3, BL4, and BL5. The lipolytic indexes of bacteria BL2, BL3, and BL4 were respectively 0.51; 1.31; 0.78 mm and types of bacteria BL1 and BL5 with a value of 0 mm each. Bacteria types BL2, BL3, and BL4 are lipolytic bacterial isolates because they are capable of producing extracellular lipase enzymes characterized by the formation of clear zone areas surrounding the bacterial colonies.

Abstract

Aquaculture activities play an important role in fulfilling aquaculture commodities. One of them is catfish farming activities. Complex problems related to feed efficiency in the fisheries sector are related to the ever-increasing price of feed. Adding fish probiotics to feed is an alternative solution for cultivation businesses. The aim of this research is to determine the comparative effect of different probiotic applications on physical, chemical and biological factors in water, weight and length increase in catfish (Clarias gariepinus). This research is an experimental study using 3 types of probiotic treatments (MinaPro, YEB Consortium, and control). The pond used in this research measures 2x2 m2 and contains 240 individuals. The results of temperature measurements in all treatments were 27.64-32.18 ̊C. The pH measurement results were 5.118-14.15. Results of salinity measurements with a value of 0 ppt. The results of measuring the dissolved oxygen value were 0.345-8.908 ppm. The use of different types of probiotics had an effect on the growth of catfish (Clarias gariepinus) with the best treatment using the MinaPro probiotic with an average final weight of 15.59 kg with a length of 14.54.
