Abstract

Immunity and growth were problems in main focus in fish farming bussiness. The use of herbal ingredients in feed can be a solution. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of adding herbal supplements to feed in increasing the growth of Tilapia. The method used was a field experiment bya selecting tilapia in pond (8x3 m2). Adding natural supplements to feed begins with making herbal concoctions, then supplementing them with 50 mL/Kg feed..Fish were given feed at 3%/body weight for 1 month. The absolute growth in lenght and weight were 7.09±1.38 cm and 136.05±27.48 g. The feed conversation ratio was around 1.28, the feed efficiency was around 77.7% and the survival rate reached 100%. Herbal concoctions can increase immunity and optimal growth. .

Abstract

In aquaculture, Spirulina platensis is used as a feed supplement as it contains the amino acid phenylalanine. This study was conducted to evaluate the differences in the effects of spirulina-based microcapsules and commercial diets on the absolute, daily, and specific growth rates, as well as the survival rates, of milkfish larvae. The larvae were fed with Spirulina platensis as a core diet in microcapsules with different matrix (wall) compositions. The first capsule wall consisted of gelatin and fish oil, while the second capsule wall contained gelatin, fish oil, and whole egg. The control group was fed a commercial diet. A total of 1,200 larvae were used in this experiment using a recirculating system. The experiment was conducted over 42 days of culture. The larvae were fed three times per day, and the feed amount was increased regularly in accordance with larval growth. The results showed that the effects of both spirulina-based microcapsule diets on absolute growth rate (AGR), specific growth rate (SGR), and average daily growth rate (ADGR) of Chanos chanos larvae were comparable to those fed a commercial diet. The survival rates were 80.6 ± 11.17% for larvae fed Spirulina platensis with a gelatin and fish oil wall, 84.6 ± 8.44% for those fed Spirulina platensis with a gelatin, fish oil, and whole egg wall, and 83.8 ± 16.50% for those fed the commercial diet. This study demonstrated that spirulina-based microcapsules had similar effects to commercial feed on the growth of milkfish larvae, indicating that this diet could potentially replace commercial feed.

Abstract

The probiotic innovation training programme based on market waste implemented at the Krido Yuwono Mina Padi Technopark Group aims to increase tilapia productivity and farming efficiency through the use of organic waste as raw material for probiotics. This training involves participants in the production of probiotics through the fermentation of market waste using lactic acid bacteria starters. The evaluation results show an increase in tilapia productivity of around 15-20% with better feed efficiency and a reduction in ammonia levels in pond water, which was previously a major problem in maintaining fish health. The community involved in this programme also increased their confidence in managing tilapia farming efficiently and received new knowledge that can reduce operational costs. This programme has achieved significant social and economic impacts and is expected to develop into a sustainable community empowerment model in the field of aquaculture and support more environmentally friendly waste management.

Abstract

Amylolytic bacteria in the digestive tract of tilapia are bacteria that produceamylase enzymes, which function to break down carbohydrates, thereby aidingthe digestive process. The presence of amylolytic bacteria is influenced by feedand the environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the proportionand activity index of amylolytic bacteria in the intestines of tilapia. This studyused an observational method with purposive sampling. Amylolytic bacteriawere isolated from the intestines of tilapia in Rice fish farming Blocks A and E.The successfully isolated bacteria were grown on 1% starch agar medium withan incubation time of 48 hours and observed at 24-hour intervals. Then, severalcharacteristic tests were carried out, including Gram staining, KOH, catalase, and oxidase tests. Based on the results of the study, the proportion of amylolyticbacteria was found in 10 isolates with a proportion of 44% and 12 isolates witha proportion of 48% in the intestines of tilapia from the two blocks. The averageamylolytic activity index obtained from block A was 0.96 ± 0.237, and fromblock E was 1.49 ± 0.501. The largest amylolytic activity index was obtainedin isolate KSA 19 with a value of 1.33 from block A, while from block E, thelargest amylolytic activity index value was 2.6 in isolate KSE 5.
