Abstract

This research aims to explore how the revitalization of Javanese culture plays a role in building cultural resilience as a strategy for the prevention of radicalism. Employing a qualitative approach, the study involved in-depth interviews with Javanese cultural experts, former individuals exposed to radical ideologies, religious leaders, and security apparatus personnel experienced in handling extremism. The thematic analysis identified three primary themes: (1) Kejawen values as a cognitive-affective framework that forms cultural resilience; (2) the practice of Gotong Royong (cooperation) as a source of communal resilience that strengthens the sense of connection and collective alertness; and (3) traditional Arts and Rituals as Mechanisms of Local Identity Formation, which functions to protect individuals from seeking alternative identities offered by radical ideologies. These findings confirm that the revitalization of Javanese culture is not merely the preservation of tradition, but rather an adaptive mechanism that reinforces the community's resilience in rejecting the penetration of violent ideologies. Thus, cultural resilience becomes an essential foundation for sustainable radicalism prevention efforts based on local wisdom. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of utilizing local cultural values and practices in a reflective manner in the formulation of community-based radicalism prevention programs, particularly through the strengthening of cultural spaces, values education, and sustained social participation.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the relationship between religiosity and loneliness in ethnic Chinese adolescents. A total of 116 participants were involved in this research, who were selected using incidental sampling techniques. Data was collected using the Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS-15) developed by Huber and Huber and the UCLA Loneliness Scale created by Russell. Data were analyzed using the Pearson product moment correlation technique. The results of the analysis show a correlation coefficient of r = -0.112 and a significance value of 0.230 (p>0.05), which indicates a negative but not significant relationship between religiosity and loneliness in ethnic Chinese adolescents. This means, the higher the religiosity of ethnic Chinese teenagers, the lower their tendency to feel lonely. It is also said that the lower the religiosity, the higher their tendency to experience feelings of loneliness.

Abstract

Parental divorce constitutes a major family transition that may heighten adolescents’ perceived stress, whereas optimism is generally regarded as a protective psychological resource. This study examined the association between dispositional optimism and perceived stress among adolescents whose parents had divorced. A quantitative, cross-sectional correlational design was employed with 64 adolescents aged 14–18 years residing in Grobogan Regency, Indonesia. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling and completed online measures described as Indonesian adaptations of the Life Orientation Test–Revised and the Perceived Stress Scale. Because both variables deviated significantly from normality, the hypothesis was tested using Spearman’s rank-order correlation. The analysis revealed a statistically significant, moderate positive association between optimism and perceived stress (rₛ = .488, p < .001; approximate 95% CI .28, .66), contrary to the hypothesized negative relationship. This finding should not be interpreted as evidence that optimism causes stress. Rather, it may reflect context-specific expectations, compensatory positive thinking elicited by distress, measurement-related characteristics, or unmeasured family and social conditions. The findings underscore the importance of distinguishing generalized dispositional optimism from family-specific hopes, including expectations of parental reconciliation. Counseling interventions should preserve adolescents’ positive future orientation while fostering realistic appraisal, emotional acceptance, flexible goal adjustment, and access to supportive relationships.
