Abstract

Some online learning methods are experiencing very fast dynamics these days. The dynamics that are developing are a form of adjustment to the needs of lecturers and students when the Covid-19 pandemic is severe. Airlangga University's online learning system e-Learning Application (AULA) has tried to be maximized to face the current dynamics of change. This study aims to evaluate online learning in theoretical and practical classes. The evaluation is seen from the perceptions of students from the Vocational Faculty. This evaluation is used to analyze three main aspects of the use of AULA, namely delivery, interactive, and assessment in the implementation of theoretical and practicum courses. This evaluation research uses a quantitative approach with the main data collection being a questionnaire. In addition, in-depth interviews were also conducted to confirm the questionnaire. The results of the analysis of this study indicate that the perceptions of students tend to be dissatisfied with the use of AULA in the practical class. Almost all sections in the interactive and assessment aspects have a fairly low score. The findings in this study indicate that the implementation of online practicum classes is still not able to accommodate students' interests related to the full mastery of skills from practicum classes. Although, the combination of vocational education and training with E-learning during a pandemic is considered the only logical choice. This is because learning objectives can only be achieved using this method compared to having to face to face during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

As technology continues to advance, governments around the world have implemented health protocols to minimize direct contact between individuals and objects, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. To address this need, a touchless parking portal was designed using a microcontroller-based and internet of things (IoT) -based system, with the Arduino UNO microcontroller device serving as the core component. The system employs an ultrasonic sensor HC-SR04 and passive infrared (PIR) to detect vehicles as they arrive at the portal area, in addition to requiring an ESP32-CAM camera, servo motor, light-emitting diode (LED), I2C 16x2 liquid crystal display (LCD), push button, universal serial bus (USB) to transistor-transistor logic (TTL) converter, power supply, and portal bar. The system builder software was developed using Arduino integrated development environment (IDE), Android, and Blynk. The authors conducted thorough testing and analysis of the system, concluding that its overall performance reaches 100%. Nevertheless, despite the extensive experimentation conducted, there remains a possibility that certain factors could still affect the results. Therefore, caution is advised when interpreting the outcomes of this experiment.

Abstract

Tourism development is a strategic driver for enhancing local economies. Managing destination capacity has become essential for ensuring sustainability and high-quality visitor experiences. Surabaya, as a prominent tourism city, can benefit from improved efficiency and reduced operational costs through better capacity management. This study aims to develop an integrated destination capacity model in Surabaya by leveraging Lean Supply Chain principles and Little's Law. The goal is to identify and reduce waste in visitor flow while boosting operational efficiency. The study involves collecting data on visitor arrivals and their duration at Surabaya's tourist destinations. This data is analyzed using Little's Law (L = λW) to determine the optimal capacity that enhances visitor experience and minimizes waiting times and operational costs. Results indicate that implementing this integrated model significantly reduces visitor waiting times and enhances satisfaction. It also provides an effective strategy for managing visitor numbers during peak seasons, ensuring a more balanced flow of tourists. The model offers valuable insights for destination managers in efficiently allocating resources and managing capacity, especially in high-potential tourism cities like Surabaya. This approach not only enhances the visitor experience but also contributes to sustainable tourism management by balancing demand and operational efficiency.

Abstract

This research leverages artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to develop a predictive model for forecasting tourist arrivals in East Java Province, Indonesia, using a comprehensive dataset encompassing historical tourism statistics from 2018 to 2020, seasonal trends, promotional campaigns, and various economic and social variables. The study evaluates three AI methodologies: artificial neural network (ANN), extreme learning machine (ELM), and Jordan recurrent neural network (JRNN), each known for their distinct strengths in processing complex data and adapting to changing trends. The comparative analysis reveals that the JRNN model outperforms others with the highest precision, achieving an average prediction deviation of just 2.98% from actual data, effectively capturing temporal and seasonal trends. The ANN follows closely with a deviation of 3.31%, showing strong capabilities in handling complex, nonlinear relationships. In contrast, the ELM, though fastest in training, exhibits a larger deviation of 10.51%, indicating a trade-off between speed and accuracy. These results highlight the potential of AI to significantly enhance the accuracy and operational efficiency of tourism forecasts, offering robust tools for stakeholders to engage in informed strategic planning and resource allocation in dynamic market conditions.
