Abstract

The problems experienced by adolescents have an impact on their growth and development and their future. One of the main factors behind this problem is the exposure to information about adolescent reproductive health. This study aims to describe adolescent exposure to information on reproductive health. This type of research is observational with a cross-sectional study design. The sample in this study was 169 unmarried high school students aged 15–20 years who live in Banyumas Regency, totaling 169 people. Most adolescents are female (78.7%), 17 years old (40.8%), and 16 years old (37.9%), live with their parents (95.9%), use social media to find information about adolescent reproductive health (67.5%), considered parents as a more trusted source of information (27.8%) and social media as a less trusted source of information (50.9%). Most adolescents have received counseling about adolescent reproductive health at school (84.6%), provided Youth Information Center and Counseling Program in their schools (36.1%), and never received information about Generation Planner (68%) and Youth Information Center and Counseling Program (58.6%). Adolescents have sufficient access to information on adolescent reproductive health. Still, not a few adolescents have not received information about programs related to Generation Planner and Youth Information Center and Counseling Program. Schools already provide information on adolescent reproductive health and sexuality. However, only a few adolescents receive information about family planning and contraception and are aware of a school's youth counseling and information center.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to the low teacher ratio in public elementary schools in Banyumas Regency, understand the potential risks if this issue is not addressed, and propose solutions. The research employs a qualitative study with an exploratory descriptive design, involving in-depth interviews with school principals, data triangulation with teachers and the Banyumas Regency Education Office, and data analysis using NVivo 14 software for visualization and analysis. The findings indicate that geographical location of schools, adaptation to new cultures, and policies play significant roles in the low teacher ratio in rural schools. The risks associated include a decline in education quality, increased workload for teachers, and negative impacts on student quality. Solutions implemented include the recruitment and transfer of teachers, as well as improvements in infrastructure and facilities. Collaboration between the government, schools, and local communities is necessary, along with the implementation of policies that support a more equitable and fair distribution of teachers.

Abstract

The rapid development of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia necessitates the enhancement of health services at Poskestren (Islamic boarding school health posts). Poskestren Darussalam in Banyumas Regency has significant potential to improve the health of its students, however, its program implementation remains suboptimal. Health cadres, referred to as Santri Husada, play a critical role in Poskestren management. Therefore, this management training was designed to enhance the capacity of Santri Husada cadres in managing Poskestren, enabling them to deliver better health services for students and contribute to a healthier pesantren environment. This training aimed to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of Poskestren cadres in health post management. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and brainstorming, supported by instructional media such as PowerPoint presentations, modules, flipcharts, and posters. The training involved 33 Santri Husada cadres. Evaluation was conducted by comparing knowledge scores before and after the training. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in participants' knowledge (p-value = 0.001). This training effectively increased the cadres' understanding of health service management in pesantren. However, ongoing support and guidance from local health centers (Puskesmas) need to be strengthened to ensure program sustainability.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, with increasing prevalence, particularly among the elderly. Genetic and lifestyle factors are believed to contribute to the development of hypertension. This study aimed to examine the relationship between age, family history of hypertension, and smoking behavior with the incidence of hypertension among adults. This cross-sectional study involved 74 adult respondents in Kalibagor Subdistrict, Banyumas Regency. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression. The analysis showed that older age (OR = 3.866; 95% CI: 1.351–11.059) and family history of hypertension (OR = 3.682; 95% CI: 1.974–7.950) were significantly associated with hypertension. Smoking behavior was not significantly associated with hypertension (p > 0.05). Age and family history of hypertension are dominant factors contributing to the incidence of hypertension. Preventive and promotive efforts should focus on high-risk groups to reduce the prevalence of hypertension in the community.

Abstract

The surge in COVID-19 cases among children poses a risk of malnutrition, especially stunting, and even mortality. According to Banyumas Health Data in 2019, the highest prevalence of stunting in rural areas (25.9%) was at the Cilongok I Primary Health Center. Nutritional problems in urban and rural areas are influenced by differences in healthcare facilities and food availability. This study aimed to examine the effect of infection and environmental sanitation on the incidence of stunting among toddlers in rural areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. A case-control approach was used in this study. The case group consisted of stunted toddlers based on Height-for-Age Z-score (HAZ) measurements in February 2021, and the control group was toddlers with normal nutrition who were the closest neighbors of the cases. A total of 30 stunted toddlers and 30 controls were selected using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using multivariate, bivariate, and univariate analysis with logistic regression. The results showed that infection and environmental sanitation influenced the occurrence of stunting among toddlers in rural areas. Infection was the most dominant factor, with an OR value of 16.34, meaning that infected toddlers faced 16.34 times higher risk of becoming stunted than those without infections.
