Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia, positioned amidst two oceanic continents, experiences varying rainfall intensities due to its tropical rainy climate, significantly impacting soil stability and rendering it prone to landslides. This study investigates community preparedness for landslides, focusing on demographic characteristics' influence. We used cross sectional method with utilizing an observational analytic approach. The data was collected from 89 respondents using the LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR questionnaire. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling using a computer application. Data analysis uses Spearman rho analysis to determine the correlation of each variable. Findings reveal a significant correlation between age and education with disaster preparedness, whereas previous disaster experience showed no correlation. Most respondents displayed inadequate preparedness, indicating a pressing need for enhanced disaster management efforts. The study underscores the imperative for targeted interventions to bolster community resilience, emphasizing education and awareness initiatives to bridge preparedness gaps. Overall, the findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and disaster management authorities in formulating proactive strategies to mitigate landslide risks and enhance community resilience in rural areas.

Abstract

The incidence of heart attack is one of the highest causes of death in the world and Indonesia. East Java ranks second highest for people with heart problems who risk getting a heart attack. The farmers had a high-risk factor for heart disease due to an unhealthy lifestyle (high-fat diet, smoking, caffeine consumption, and exposure to pesticides). Farmers in Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency also have the same risk. Farmers in the Sacred Village had a high enough risk of a heart attack. This is the reason for the Mulyo Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan), Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency, to be empowered in dealing with this problem. The purpose of implementing this service is to create a heart-friendly agricultural area in Suci Village by downstream the research results of the proposer team, increasing knowledge, attitudes, and skills of Gapoktan about BHD, and forming a group of volunteers for BHD Gapoktan Tani Mulyo. The method used starts with initial identification with partners, formulation of activities, implementation of activities, and final dissemination. The result is that Tani Mulyo's Gapoktan has been empowered to become a BHD volunteer. The results of our program implementation were evaluated by giving pretest and post-test questionnaires, which we analyzed with a dependent t-test. The result showed that there was a significant increase in the variables of knowledge (p=<0.001), attitude (p=0.003), and skills (p=<0.001) from Tani Mulyo's Gapoktan. With the implementation of this service, Tani Mulyo Gapoktan has been empowered to become a BHD volunteer to create a heart-friendly agricultural area.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the clinical manifestations of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is shortness of breath due to interference with the kidneys which results in disruption of the formation of red blood cells. A decrease in the number of red blood cells will interfere with its function to carry oxygen to peripheral tissues so that it can cause shortness of breath. Shortness of breath alone and can cause problems with ineffective breathing patterns. Nursing actions that can be taken in this case include foot massage therapy which aims to reduce shortness of breath. Research objective: to determine the effectiveness of foot massage therapy on ineffective breathing patterns in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients. Method: This scientific work uses the case report method which describes the case of Mrs. M with the problem of ineffective breathing pattern nursing in the Adenium Room RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. The intervention was foot massage for 30 minutes in 3 days. Discussion: After the foot massage therapy was carried out within 3 days of treatment, it showed a change in respiratory frequency from scale 2 (severely increased) to scale 4 (simply decreased). Non-pharmacological therapy foot massage can help reduce symptoms of shortness of breath because it can increase the hormone endorphins can affect blood vessels so that blood vessels can widen and will improve blood and lymph circulation which can increase oxygen supply and reduce shortness in patients Conclusion: Actions of foot massage therapy can provide a change in the patient's breathing pattern as seen from the previous respiratory rate from 25 x/minute to 20x/minute, dyspnoea has decreased considerably

Abstract

Introduction: Lung tumor is a pathological disease that attacks the lungs with the appearance of abnormal cells and one of the symptoms is shortness of breath. The emergence of shortness of breath can cause the supply of oxygen throughout the body to be disrupted. Purpose: This study aim to giving combination therapy of Pursed Lips Breathing and Eucalyptus aromatherapy is to reduce the patient's shortness of breath. Methods: This research is a case study to evaluate interventions given to patients with lung tumors packaged in nursing care. Intervention is given 2x every day for 5-15 minutes for 4 days. Success indicator is measured by oxygen saturation. Result: The results showed that the intervention given for 4 days of clients shortness of breath decreased as evidenced by SpO2 86% to 93%. Discussion: Pursed Lips Breathing exercise will increase the movement of the diaphragm which will add volume to the lungs, with the inspiratory phase causing a decrease in muscle workload and a long expiratory phase causing residues to decrease thereby increasing gas exchange. Giving eucalyptus aromatherapy containing essential oils by dropping it in hot water can change eucalyptus essential oil in aerosol form so that it reaches the respiratory organs and is deposited in the lungs and complaints of shortness of breath can be reduced. Conclusion: The decrease in shortness of breath showed that the combination therapy intervention of Pursed Lips Breathing and Eucalyptus aromatherapy was effective in reducing the degree of shortness of breath in lung tumor patients.

Abstract

Background: Open fracture cases have complex management that involves bleeding control based on comprehensive knowledge and training. Augmented Reality (AR) offers an interactive learning approach that may enhance nursing students' motivation and knowledge of emergency open fracture cases. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of augmented reality in improving the knowledge and learning motivation of Indonesian nursing students regarding open fracture learning. Methods: This study used a cluster randomized pretest–posttest control group design involving four class groups of nursing students (n = 155). Two clusters received the Open Fracture Augmented Reality Application, while two received conventional lectures. Motivation was measured using the validated MSLQ, and knowledge using a 29-item validated questionnaire. Both groups completed pretest and posttest assessments. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon, and Mann–Whitney tests (α = 0.05). Results: A total of 155 nursing students participated, with balanced baseline characteristics between groups. The AR intervention significantly improved knowledge (p = 0.001, r = 0.38) and motivation (p = 0.022, r = 0.27) in the intervention group, while no significant gains occurred in the control group. Between-group analysis showed higher posttest knowledge in the AR group (p = 0.005), indicating that AR was more effective than conventional instruction, particularly for cognitive outcomes. Conclusion: Augmented Reality–based learning significantly improves nursing students’ knowledge of open-fracture management compared with traditional methods, while showing no significant between-group differences in motivation, highlighting AR’s value as an effective supplemental tool for enhancing understanding of complex clinical content.

Abstract

Trauma is a global health problem, which is a serious issue, claiming around 8% of all lives lost. Proper treatment is crucial, and accurate assessment is key. Coming hotfooting out of nowhere or being involved in a sudden accident are two of the most common causes.  Many methods have been established for the determination of trauma and for the guidance of treatment. This study attempted to compare the performance of NEWS, MREMS, and RTS in predicting death and ICU admission among trauma patients in Indonesia. This cross-sectional design analyzed 90 trauma patients admitted to the hospital in 2024. Patients aged ≥ 16 years with complete medical records were included. The instruments used to predict mortality and ICU admission were NEWS (National Early Warning Score), RTS (Revised Trauma Score), and MREMS. The analysis was conducted by comparing the predictive performance using AUCROC with the optimal threshold value by the Youden index. The Odds Ratio (OR) value was also determined. The analysis of this study was conducted using SPSS version 29. Interpretation results with p < 0.05 were considered significant. The results of this study analysis showed that the three scoring systems (NEWS, RTS, and MREMS) had excellent discriminatory ability to predict mortality (AUCROC ≥ 0.95, p < 0.001), with NEWS achieving the highest performance (AUCROC 0.979, sensitivity 0.966, specificity 0.883) compared to other instruments. In the ICU admission variable, the predictive performance results were lower, but NEWS still had a better value (AUCROC 0.816) compared to the others. This analysis concludes that the three instruments have acceptable discriminative power. NEWS is a superior instrument, as evidenced by better descriptive results for sensitivity and specificity in predicting trauma mortality and ICU admission. This finding further validates the usability of NEWS as an effective triage tool for predicting early risk of mortality and ICU admission in trauma patients.
