Abstract

This research aims at revealing the perception of the millennial generation in Pinamorongan village towards the use of Tontemboan language. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this research used a questionnaire. For data analysis technique used in this research is from Miles and Huberman (1984) in Sugiyono (2015: 330), namely: Data Reduction, Data Display, Conclusion / Verification.Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be seen that the people in Pinamorongan village, especially the millennial generation, rarely use the Tontemboan language because of the times and it has not been preserved until now. therefore there must be awareness from all people, both young and old, to be able to love culture and in particular to continue to preserve the Tontemboan language in Pinamorongan village

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying denotative and connotative meaning in English proverbs, in Solomon’s Proverbs in Proverbs 25, 26, and 28, King James Version. This study was conducted in order to explain the patterns of proverb that used on Solomon’s proverbs in Proverbs 25, 26, and 28, King James Version. In conducting this study, descriptive method were used. The data were collected through documentation, the writer spending times in reading and analysing the Solomon’s Proverbs in Proverbs 25, 26, and 28, King James Version and the files that in relation with this research. The data were analyzed by following step of unitization, categorization, explanation and interpretation. The result shows that there are 36 English proverbs that used patterns of proverbs by Mieder which are Better X than Y, Like X like Y, No X without Y, One X doesn’t make Y, If X than Y. It is suggested that understand the denotative and connotative meaning in reading English writing especially English Proverbs should be considered in order to get the real meaning that the author or speaker exactly means. Other researcher may conduct a study about denotative and connotative meaning with different point or object.

Abstract

Sociolinguistics has a lot of aspects that can be researched. One of the aspects is slang. Slang is vocabulary that is used between people who belong to the same social group and who know each other well. Slang is very informal language. This research mainly discussed about slang in Geek Charming Movie. The purpose of this study is to identify the slangs and to describe the types of slang used in Geek Charming Movie. This study is limited to the main characters in the movie, they are Dylan Schoenfield and Josh Rosen.The  writer  used  descriptive qualitative  method  by using Bodgan and  Bilden (1992)   theory, which consists   of four steps: unitization, categorization, explanation, and interpretation. After analizing the data, it is found out that there are three types of slang used by Dylan Schoen field and Josh Rosen in Geek Charming Movie. The types of slang are public house slang, society slang, slangin public school and university.  Those  are  types  of  slang  according  to Eric Partridge (1950).It is important to study slang because the result of this research can be used for further research and help readers to get more knowledge about slang.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the E-learning method can be effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text with WhatsApp Application. This research was conducted in class X MIA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Buko in the academic year of 2020/2021. This study used one group-pretest-postest design of research with the data analysis was the frequency distribution of scores, mean and standard deviation. The questions from the pretest and posttest used the type of multiple-choice questions with questions about the descriptive text. From this result, it was found that the mean of posttest Y = 7.8 with standard deviation Sy = 0.79 was higher than the mean score at pretest X = 5.33 with standard deviation Sx = 0.89. It means that students' reading comprehension in the descriptive text was higher after treatment at posttest than pretest. So the researcher concluded that the application of the E-learning method through WhatsApp application was effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out whether or not Quantum Teaching Strategy is effective to help students enhance their writing skills. This study was carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Manganitu. This research used quantitative research. This research is expected to be useful in providing information to teachers in teaching and learning activities so that teachers are more creative and know how to improve students' curiosity, to gain students’ interest in learning English in class. The population of this research was the students of SMA Negeri 1 Manganitu and class X that consisting of 20 students as sample. This study used a pre-experimental, pre-test, and post-test design with only one group. The researcher gathered data by asking students to complete a written test firstly also known as pre-test apply in Quantum Teaching Strategy, secondly delivered with written test also known as post-test. After these activities, the researcher analysed the data by comparing the mean score of pre-test and post-test. The result of post-test score was 78 compared to the total mean = 38.75 as the result of pre-test. This meant that Quantum Teaching Strategy was an effective way to improves students’ writing skill in recount text especially in personal recount text. It was recommended to teachers to use Quantum Teaching Strategy in order to maximize students’ capability in learning English.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the differences between comics and movie by using a qualitative method, effective to describe the problem and give more explanation about this comic and movie Iron Man. This research was conducted in Comic (Tales of Suspense: Iron Man) and Movie Iron Man (2008). To fulfill the research objective, the researcher took an experimental study involving a sample of a movie with a duration of 2 hours 6minutes and a comic strip of 13 pages. Data is obtained through analysis in books and comics, reading, and seeing the problems obtained. The data in the comics show more past events at that time than the data in the movie. in the comics it shows realistic events in the 1963 era and the values or data shown in the movie are more into the modern era. Based on the results of the research, the researcher concludes that the comics and the Iron Man film have differences that make each story with the right elements, stories that have suggestions through time

Abstract

This study focuses on 9 basic sentence patterns that used in Barack Obama speech which he delivered when visited Universitas Indonesia Jakarta. The aim of the study is to find out how many sentence patterns that used in Barack Obama Speech. This study used qualitative research which the researcher analyzed through the script. The results of the study showed that there were 8 sentence patterns in the speech as follows, they were pattern 1 (9 sentences), pattern 2 (2 sentences), pattern 3 (26 sentences), pattern 4 (1 sentence), pattern 6 (20 sentences), pattern 7 (103 sentences), pattern 8 (1 sentence), pattern 9 (2 sentences). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the pattern 7 were most dominant of the other pattern, then there was 1 pattern was not found, pattern 5. In this research there were various kinds of sentences pattern in 1 speech that can be used to help you improve writing skill, for English learners especially for the future researchers

Abstract

The foundation of English is vocabulary, which must be acquired. Reading, listening, writing, and speaking are all made easier with a strong vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the usage of language games can enhance students' learning achievement in acquiring English vocabulary, given that mastering English vocabulary is essential and important. The outcomes of this research are anticipated to improve vocabulary knowledge. Since this study relies on data and statistics, it adopts a quantitative methodology. The authors use the pre-experimental approach in their investigation. There are two tests: the initial test, which is administered prior to therapy, and the final test, which is administered following treatment. According to the study's findings, the post-test score (score of 7) is greater than the pre-test score (4.8). This proves that games are a highly effective way to improve kids' interest in vocabulary. Since learning becomes interactive and can pique students' imaginations, it can be concluded that the learning model that incorporates educational games will increase student interest in learning. Additionally, instructional games will give pupils a fresh way to learn

Abstract

This study aims to find out the perceptions of teachers and students in the process of learning English conversation through Zoom Meeting. The method used in this study was quantitative method. Data collection in this study was carried out using a survey technique by distributing questionnaires. The researcher used Google form as a data collection tool. The type of questionnaire was closed questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed to 7 English teachers and 36 students. The results of the data analysis stated that teachers and students were greatly helped by learning English conversation through Zoom Meeting in learning activities. Teachers and students also have supporting devices and the government provides assistance to support the process of learning English conversation through Zoom Meetings. However, many teachers have disagreed that they have never experienced obstacles in the process of learning English conversation. It is suggested for teachers to help students improve their learning English conversation through online application in this case Zoom meeting. Students could learn more about the material provided by teachers through Zoom Meeting. For researchers, it could be as a reference in conducting studies regarding perception on learning English conversation.
