<![CDATA[Buku teks merupakan sumber yang tepat dalam membelajarkan nilai-nilai, termasuk pendidikan karakter. Namun, pada tingkat Sekolah Dasar berbasis keagamaan, masih sedikit penelitian yang mengkaji bagaimana nilai-nilai tersebut direpresentasikan di dalam buku teks Bahasa Inggris. Dengan menggunakan analisis wacana kritis, penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana buku teks Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan di sekolah tersebut memuat nilai pendidikan karakter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai yang paling dominan adalah disiplin, bersahabat/komunikatif, serta gemar membaca. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat melengkapi literatur yang ada tentang muatan pendidikan karakter dalam buku teks bahasa Inggris yang dipakai di Sekolah Dasar di Indonesia.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the values of character education contained in the poem Es ist Alle Eitel, the work of a German writer named Andreas Gryphius. This study uses a qualitative approach with content analysis method based on semiotic analysis, in this case semiotic analysis based on the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Pierce. The results of the analysis show that in this poem there are semiotic signs in the form of indexes and symbols, which reflect the values of character education. The index sign is found more than the symbol sign. While the icon sign is not found in this poem. Furthermore, the character education values contained in this poem are the character of believing and loving God, sincere faithful, humble, empathetic, intelligent responsibility and love for the environment.]]>

<![CDATA[Metonymy according to the Great Dictionary of Indonesian is metonymia which means disclosure in the form of the use of names for other objects that are brands, distinctive features or attributes. The purpose of this study is to describe words or phrases that point to the disclosure of metonymia in Manado Malay as well as explaining the meaning according to the context based on semantic lexial relationships. The data were collected by participatory observation among students majoring in UNIMA English language education. Then the data were analyzed according to the steps of Bogdan and Biklen (1992). The results of the analysis showed that the use of metonymic speech was found in 5 categories based on the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), namely: container for content, part for whole, face for person, place for institution and producer for product. In order not to have misunderstandings in communicating, every speaker must understand the meaning according to the context of the speech]]>

<![CDATA[The study, "An Study Of Positive Politeness Technique In Moana Movie," focuses on politeness in relation to Brown and Levinson's positive politeness approach. This study was undertaken with the intention of describing the effective politeness technique used in the Moana movie. In this study, the descriptive qualitative method was used. The conversations in the Moana movie script served as the source of the data for this investigation. The analysis of the data revealed three effective politeness strategies in the film Moana. The statistics are as follows: 13 pique the listener's interest more, 4 exaggerate, and 4 make promises or offers. <![CDATA[This study aims to reveal how the main character in the film “Freedom Writers” by Richard La Gravanese teaches and educates her students who are full of racism with compassion. This study uses a qualitative research method because the authors collect data in the form of film scripts from Freedom Writers to be processed into a study. The author also uses a psychological approach and uses the theory of Muhtadi, and Maman Abd Jahlil who supports this research because it studies how to understand and study motives from the side of human psychology. The results of this study indicate that the main character in the film Freedom Writers uses various methods and goes through various processes to unite her students in her class which are full of racism. The result of this research, we can make an example that work as a teacher not only focuses on the students score, but also the value of life is no less important that must be given to students with compassionate.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to find out the whether youtube social media increasing students’ vocabulary at GPDI Berea Tondano Junior High School. The subject of the study is Eight Grade Student. The result of this study shows that mean score Post-test (82.75) was higher than mean score Pre-test (32.5). Paired Sample Test showed that the significance value of 0.000, meaning less than 0.05, then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. The result means there was a significance difference between before and after treatment. The normality test using the SPSS Program known that 4.20 (>0.05). Based on the result of this study shows increasing students’ vocabulary through application of social media youtube has a big chance and really effective to increase students’ vocabulary.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is find how students’ perceptions of using YouTube in Vocabulary Mastery. YouTube is online Video sharing platform which allows users to upload, view, and share video from all over the world therefore can also as media online learning especially in mastering vocabulary. The researchers use quantitative research and the sample of this research is 37 students in seven semester of English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. Researchers use questionnaire as instrument in collecting the data. Questionnaire is one of research instrument, which aims for collecting data in survey research and also can be thought of as kind of written interview. The type of questionnaire that used in this research is closed-ended questionnaire. It is used like scale questionnaire in data collection and analyzed in statistical descriptive. Optional for the questioner measuring from strongly agrees, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. The result in this research is found by seeing the responses of students after distributing the questionnaire and collecting the data. As the result mostly students give positive perception using YouTube in vocabulary mastery and even give good impact to their ability especially in class environment.]]>

<![CDATA[This study deals with the effect of gender differences on reading comprehension. The purpose is to answer the question: Does female students perform more significantly on reading comprehension of neutral text than do male students? The study that was conducted in the academic year 2019/2020, is pre-experimental in nature intact group design, and involved 60 grade students purposely selected based on their gender as the sample. They are then assigned into two treatment groups. The data are collected using an objective type test in multiple-choice format, and are analyzed statistically using t-test for independent sample. Result of the analysis showed that at p .05 and df 58, the t-observed is larger than t-table [3.333 ≥ 2.000). This indicates that female students outperformed their male counterparts in reading comprehension. In other words, it can be stated that gender differences affect reading comprehension]]>

<![CDATA[This study was conducted to determine whether the use of Quizizz game-based learning applications can improve students' vocabulary mastery or not, especially in SMP Negeri 6 Tondano. In conducting this research, a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design was used. The subject of this research is one of the classes, namely the ninth grade (IX) at SMP Negeri 6 Tondano, totaling 15 students. Data collection instruments were pre-test (before treatment) and post–test (after treatment). The tests were in the form of multiple-choice and matching tests. The results of this study showed that the average scores of the post–test is higher (88.33) than the mean scores of the pre-test (43.33). Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the use of Quizizz game-based learning media was very effective and succeeded in improving students' vocabulary, especially on the meaning of words and equivalent meaning/synonyms, and making students more active and class learning more fun.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to reveal the causes of resistance against Aristocracy in France Revolution as seen in Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. This research employs a qualitative method, which is richly descriptive. In conducting this research, the data was taken from primary which is Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, and secondary sources. The historical approach to literature simply means that the critic--the person trying to understand any work of literature--looks beyond the literature itself to the broader historical. The findings show that the resistance against aristocracy arises as a result of conditions in poverty that still dominate most of the community, in which the community received improper treatment. The government services to the community in Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities were considered a failure and were made worse by the dirty and slum environmental conditions of the community which made the people angry, and human rights violations also occurred. The author views that the study's conclusions would encourage readers to evaluate literary works and comprehend the historical events the novel portrays.]]>
