Body Mass Index (BMI) is suspected to be one of the risk factors for acne vulgaris. This study aims to find the correlation between BMI and the incidence of acne vulgaris among Medical Faculty and Health Science Warmadewa University Students. The method of the study was analyzed observational which cross sectional approach. The BMI was measured by body weight (kg) devided by body height squared (m2) and incidence acne vulgaris by Global Acne Grading System. The samples were carried out on 120 students and the data were analyzed using SPSS 22. The results were showed as follows: there was a relationship between BMI and severity of acne vulgaris. The conclusion could be drawn that the relationship between BMI and acne vulgaris incidence was significant with p-value of 0,002 (p <0.05) and with Prevalence Risk (PR) of 1,19 (CI 95%, 1,003 – 1,413), thus students with underweight to normal BMI have risk of developing acne vulgaris with mild to moderate severity 1,19 times greater than students with overweight to obese BMI.. It could be recommended that students should be prevented from acne vulgaris by maintaining BMI in normal range . Key words: Acne Vulgaris, Body Mass Index (BMI), Pilosebaceous, Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Two assessment systems in education are summative assessment and formative assessment. One example of a formative assessment is the progress test which is carried out once a year at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) at Warmadewa University. The progress test aims to determine the extent to which competencies have been mastered by students, stimulate long-term retention and stimulate deep learning behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship between progress test scores and grade points of 2017 FKIK Warmadewa University students. This research is an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were 95 students of the 2017 FKIK Unwar class, 76 people fulfill the inclusion criteria and 2 people were excluded based on exclusion criteria so that the final population was 74 people. The study uses secondary data including progress test scores, odd semester social studies and GPA. Secondary data will be processed using the SPSS application. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship (p<0.05) between the score of the progress test and the achievement index with a weak strength level (r=0.20-0.39), moderate (r=0.40-0.59) to very strong (r=0.80-1). The average grade 2017 progress test score is 31.2. The average grade point average for odd semester 2017 students is 3.49. The cumulative grade point average for the 2017 class is 3.47. Suggestions that can be given are for students to take the exam seriously so that the progress test scores can describe their cognitive abilities.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the effective dosage of pilocarpine hydrochloride to provoke epileptic seizures in animal models. In this study, a true-experimental method was utilized, employing a post-test only control group design. A total of 32 white mice (Mus musculus Linnaeus UICC 524) BALB/c strains were divided into four different groups for this study. The experimental groups were subjected to varying dosages of pilocarpine hydrochloride: 220 mg/kgBW as group I, 320 mg/kgBW as group II, and 350 mg/kgBW as group III. On the other hand, the control group was administered a saline solution (NaCl 0.9%) at a dosage of 0.16% ml/kgBW. Both pilocarpine hydrochloride and saline solution (NaCl 0.9%) were injected intraperitoneally (i.p) into mice. In group I, none of the mice experienced epileptic seizures, and they all survived. In contrast, in group III, all the mice experienced epileptic seizures, but none of them survived. The Man-Whitney Test showed significant differences in seizure occurrence across doses (p<0.01). The effective dose of pilocarpine hydrochloride for inducing epileptic seizures associated with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in this study appears to be in the range of 320 mg/kgBW to 350 mg/kgBW.
