Abstract

Background: Vigna unguiculata (cowpea) is an important legume crop whose productivity can be affected by foliar diseases, including leaf necrosis caused by fungal pathogens. Identification of fungi associated with necrotic symptoms is essential as baseline information for plant disease management. Methods: This study aimed to identify fungi associated with necrotic lesions on cowpea leaves. Leaf samples showing necrotic symptoms were collected from agricultural fields in Tengger Wetan Village, Kerek Subdistrict, Tuban Regency, East Java. Fungal isolation was performed from infected leaf tissues to obtain pure cultures. Identification was conducted based on macroscopic colony characteristics and microscopic features using slide culture techniques and standard morphological identification keys. Results: Two dominant fungal isolates were consistently associated with necrotic symptoms on cowpea leaves. These fungi were identified morphologically as Alternaria alternata (isolate D1) and Nigrospora sp. (isolate D3). A. alternata was characterized by yellowish-white colonies, hyaline septate hyphae, and dark oval conidia, whereas Nigrospora sp. exhibited cottony white colonies with brown, globose conidia. Both fungi were associated with brown to black necrotic spots on the leaf surface. Conclusions: The findings provide initial information on fungal species associated with leaf necrosis in cowpea based on morphological identification. This information is useful as a foundation for further pathological and molecular studies to confirm species identity and support the development of appropriate disease management strategies.

Abstract

The Green Belt area is a buffer area in an industrial area that functions as a barrier or separates the mining area from other regions, such as residential areas or community agriculture. The Green belt area consists of various plant vegetation that absorbs carbon dioxide and air conditioning, preventing sedimentation and erosion in the mining area. Arbuscular mycorrhiza has the potential to live in the green belt area by forming a mutualism symbiosis with plants or vegetation in the area. This study aimed to determine arbuscular mycorrhizae found in the Greenbelt area of PT Semen Indonesia Tbk Tuban. Sampling used purposive sampling techniques at three sampling stations, namely rhizosphere eucalyptus (Malaleuca cajuputi), trembesi (Samanea saman), and sawo (Manilkara zapota). The study was conducted in November 2021 through three stages: sampling, sample isolation, and species identification. The results showed seven types of arbuscular mycorrhiza from five different genera, namely the genus Glomus, Acaulospora, Gigaspora, Racocetra, and Archaeospora. The most found species is the genus Glomus. This research contributes as a source of literacy and information about the types of AMF found in PT Semen Indonesia's Greenbelt area, which can be used as biological fertilizer, support plant growth, help reclaim mining areas, and protect plants from drought pressure in mining areas.

Abstract

Raudhotul Athfal (RA) Thoriqul Falah is located in Talang Kembar Village. Mothers in Talang Kembar Village are generally unproductive housewives, so there needs to be empowerment to be more productive. The purpose of this training is to provide skills for the parents of the RA Thoriqul Falah Student, in making gardening places using vertical culture, making media, as well as selecting and planting seeds. This training activity is carried out in 2 methods, namely socialization about verticulture, and practice. The socialization method was carried out in the RA meeting room, while the practice was carried out in the school yard. The vertical planting is made from used mineral water bottles and paralon. The vegetables used were lettuce, pokcoy, and celery grown in a mixture of soil, husk and manure in a ratio of 2:1:1. Questionnaire given to all participants to find out the participants' interest in applying this technique. The results of this training showed that all participants were able to make vertical planting. All participants were able to make a composition of planting media, and were able to select and plant seeds. The results of the questionnaire showed that 90% of the participants were interested in applying this technique.
